I have done this run 3 out of the 4 years this one has been around. It’s my favorite all around as it has it all. The scenery couldn’t be better running on the trials & roads that might as well be inside the national park. The area is amazing with the beautiful mountains, perfect weather & plenty of places and things to do. The course is tough but not impossible, you got plenty of time to space out before you get on the trails. The swag this year was the best it’s been! I highly recommend this one for a nice challenge.

As always Vacation Races puts on the best race production of any race company in the country. I have done this race before, the original course 2017, the small groups course of 2020 and now this new course due to snow on the original course. I have to say this one was my favorite and I hope they keep it. You still get all the fun and challenging hills in grass and dirt, like the original course during the first few miles. Then you get rewarded with beautiful pathed path that takes you along a river with bridges and trees. It was so pretty and I saw people even got to see a bear on the course this year. I love the. new course and think Vaca Races should just keep this one. Be ready for the high elevation and not go too hard too fast. Race swag is amazing, love the shirts and medals.

As always I loved this VR event. Loved the course, swag, people and other runners. I see a lot of reviews complaining about the course and the mud. One thing I love about VR races is that they are not supposed to be just street (boring) runs. Thats the point you get out in nature: trails, mud, hills, high elevation all the fun things you will remember. This course was challenging because of the climate for me, coming from the north I don’t run in heat/humidity. This one was killer even though it was cooler than normal in the area. Only thing I would change on this one is have it in the winter time. Also the 5k was a little long at almost 3.5 miles.

Reading the reviews on this race makes it sounds like this race was crap. As my 74th half marathon this one was not that bad. Yes someone f’d up and the course was short. However I have ran 2 in the past where they were 1/2 mile longer, someone marking them wrong.

The medal was the biggest I have ever seen & I loved it. Also the best race shirt almost ever. They fit to size & had a super cool Chicago logo on them and no crazy advertising on them like most runs do. I thought the scenery was very nice, with the trees, the lake & a distant different view of downtown Chicago you don’t normally see. Anyone that signed up for this race could obviously see that it was not downtown. Not sure why they are complaining. The race did start late which I didn’t like with not being able to use the bathrooms with how long of a line they were. Also I was panicking trying to get to the corral by 6:45am as they said they would close them. Not the case with a 7:15am start. I am sure they had to wait for the roads to clear. However they did a great job with lots of bathrooms on the course more than I have even seen so I did get to stop later.

The expo was super cool being at the tallest building in the city.

Leave it to Vacation Races to find a way to make a half marathon on steroids. 1st thing, ignore the part where it describes any terrain as pavement. By the time you get to the small section you are so worn out you will not notice it. This race is HARD! I promise you they will be changing the difficulty from 4 stars to 5. Only 3 runners made it under 2 hours. However this race is a must! Like nothing you have done before! You will get the opportunity to do so many firsts. 1st half to take a chair lyft, 1st to actually walk a long section (even on a down hill), 1st to be in total darkness, 1st to feel sick from altitude, 1st all trail, 1st to talk with so many runners on the course, laugh with and have so much fun! You will be talking about this one for weeks! I am ready for 2023!!!

Vacation Races pulls off another smooth & amazing inauguration half! The location was perfect, close to the park entrance, the finish line is a perfect little park. The race has lots of different terrain, this makes it fun. It’s not a easy course but not as hard as other VR courses. Very pretty thick forest views, only thing missing was a view of Mt Rainier on the course, but I think that’s because it was cloudy durning race time. The swag of course was spot on like all VR races. Everyone was having a good time, add this to any run bucket-list you have!

If you could make a run that felt like you were on a adventure, like Indiana Jones movie this would be it. The course was so beautiful I had to take pictures around every corner, this was only a problem with the run, stopping all the time to snap photos. You go though tunnels and bridges and wear a head lamp it really was such a adventure and amazing views of the mountains. This is a must for any runner. The race production was great, check in was easy at the same place as the race/ even gave us lunch after. Loved the medal and the t-shirt was actually really nice. Swag A++.

The bib pick up / expo was a nightmare. Don’t judge my review by this because this was only due to Covid. The course was super fun & very easy (especially if you are good at trial running). I got my personal best. As always vacation races puts on an amazing show. Shirt was the best one yet. The area has so much fun things to do you don’t even need to go into the crowded park. Also the weather this time of year is perfect.

I was expecting this run to be your typical small town run but instead the course actually took you though some pretty foot hills of the Oregon costal mountains. Spring colors were amazing & part of the course was even on trials. I enjoyed the scenery a lot. Course was pretty flat with some hills. The swag shirt was very nice black & nice fit, something I wear out. Everything went smooth as far as production.

This was my worst performance half of my life. Living on the west coast I am not used to humid weather. I actually had to walk part of the course, yet it’s pretty flat. This was the prettiest course I have done that was in a town or city. It had all the scenery you would see in a national Park/ forest run but you begin & end in a town & great views of the lake & river. The race production was great even with the limited things with COVID. It felt so good to be back on a live run in a town. As far as the swag the shirt was a really nice long Sleeve very nice. The medal was not the coolest or I would have given the swag a 5/5.

It was such a fun run, the scenery was not the best but it was one of the most fun courses I have run. They did a great job with social distaining and it was fun how you just picked up your bib and started the race pretty much when ever you wanted during your 30 min time slot. No lines at the bathroom, lots of spread out space to go at your own pace the whole run. I almost liked the way this race was compared to the normal crowed start/finish lines. Oh and my favorite part was picking my time slot to be able to sleep in!

I did this run when I only had 1 night in San Antonio. This race was perfect for that, you get to see all the sites & attractions of San Antonio on the run! You run past The Alamo, tons of historic places & even get to run alone the famous river walk. The medals are huge and fun. The race was pretty well put together, also very flat course.

Again my favorite racing company put on a show. This is probably the pretties course you will ever run. The entire course has views of the mountains of Zion National Park. The town around has so much to offer. The course is difficult if you are not used to hills & higher elevation. The t shirt was nice & of course the medals are 10/10.

This run was pretty easy with only a few rolling hills. The free shirt was the best I have ever gotten for a race. Thick Comfortable long sleeve with a good even, no advertising on it. This race goes to a great cause & is super fun! The scenery on the course goes though Fort Vancouver, along three river & the new waterfront, very pretty! The swag was great, lots of free things. I love the Adidas employees store 50% off passes. The free hot coco was to die for! The volunteers from the Electric company were amazing. The only thing this race brea is a race medal (maybe have a $10 option to get one).

The best part of this race was the swag & photographer. Everyone that put on this race had high energy which was really fun, they even had a mascot to greet every runner at the finish line. There was only 1 photographer yet he got pics of everyone on the finish line, doing the polar slip & slid and people getting their awards. I got some of my best in action photos ever. He also got the photos out the night of the race which is unheard of. Usually You have to wait 5-7 days. The medal was super cool for a 10k with the new year 2020 on it. The course was pretty Boring for being in the pnw. There was about 1/2 mile that went though a cute farm town but the rest went along the highway. They should do part of it in the town or something. The race production did an amazing job making a boring course a very fun race.

I see why this run is in the top 5 trail runs to do. You get to run under waterfalls & thick forests with trails full of leaves. Just when you think it’s over there is a killer hill at the end. You can camp or get a cabin and make a whole weekend of it. The production was great. I was disappointed with the photos, they only got 2 shots the whole time & one was around a corner that could have been an amazing photo with the waterfall in the background but everyone had deer in the headlights look. Maybe give a heads up to look good. Also the medal was the same for everyone no matter what distance you got. There is a big difference between a 5 & 50k. You earned that! Maybe charge a little more and make a cool medal with a waterfall or something. I will for sure do this one again maybe the half next year.

I would give this run a piece of cake shoe except that there is like 2 miles of trail running and a lot of runners are not use to it. However I thought it was fine and you basically start on a hill and run down it I got my PB on this run. It’s a very pretty course running along the race. Vacation races is of course the most amazing running company. Always super organized and fun. I love there new shirt designs for this year and they always have the best medals.

I always dreamed of going to the International hot air balloon fiesta in Albuquerque (largest in the world). Who knew that had a half marathon for it on the side. It was well organized, everyone was so nice, the nicest volunteers I have ever had on a run. It felt like I was running in a small town race. Even the people walking along the race cheered you on. However the highlight of this run was seeing all the 100’s of Balloons on the horizon as you run along the river. It was truly unreal and a running experience you can’t get anywhere else. I would highly recommend this run to anyone. Than you make it a trip for a few days and check out the amazing festival and see the balloons up close.

Also you get tons of free race photos with amazing backdrops of Fort Vancouver and the air museum. What a great event Missoula puts on. I see why this marathon is rated #1 in the country. The whole town comes out on the course to cheer you on with signs & water hoses, they lime the streets even out in the country side. The course starts off with a fireworks going off at the starting line which makes it super exciting, you go thoguh a National Forest with along a river for great views, than go though the country side and finally downtown. The finish line is lined with people & really makes you feel like a accomplished athlete. 3 racing events over the weekend, free food, photos & nice bling make this a perfect race weekend for anyone.

This was by far the prettiest course I have ever run! I done most of vacation races half marathons but this one was a big wow! Coming around mile 4 & looking down in the valley of pure green of trees with mountains in the background blew me away. The course sounds scary but really with so much down hill after mile 5 you will end up with pretty much your average time for a half. They redisgned the race shirts which I love the new design. Medals are amazing as always & I love that they change them every year now. You couldn’t have asked for a better ending with the Beautiful lodge at Rast Glacier you feel like you in the park itself. They even had an Native American song lead us off to the start. I also hate shuttles but they were actually not so bad. I highly recommended this run for your buket list.

Only Vacation races would somehow find a way to get views of the Grand Canyon without being able to be in the National Park. Yes you had to drive 30 miles on a dirt road at the break of dawn but that made this run so special. The course had some hills but they were more in the 1st 3 miles when you have more energy and it was great coming back down them at the end of the course. I actually got my new PB. The swag was great, you got a beanie and the long sleeve race shit that was really nice without advertisements all over it. This was the inaugural run for this race. Being the only run to start and end at the state capital of Oregon. I went in with low expectations from running so many pretty races in the country. However this course was fun, it was easy so I got my best time ever, very flat, just a few hills. It also was a pretty time of year with some fall colors and did a good job of going though the city of Salem seeing some of the landmarks and even going over this cool tunnel pedestrian bridge. The Volunteers were the best, they were all great at keeping everyone on course and lots of energy and high fives from them. I love the swag, the medal was huge and cool and the race shirt was one of the best I have gotten with great white and green colors. Lots of food and things to do after the run. By far this was my favorite Vacation Race Run so far. The course is a killer, up to the top of a mountain the 1st 7 miles, down hill for 3 miles was really fun after. The course was so scenic with old bridges and tunnels you go though, you can even see Mount Rushmore in 2 places, you actually run though the Black Hills National Forest. The start of the race was very convenient with so many hotels just steps away. The race expo was a perfect location with lots of parking, food after the race & fun pictures even with the Mount Rushmore presidents. They went all out with the production on this one. I am not sure if Vacation Races went extra out on this race or just getting really good at it. Also so many fun things to do in the area over the weekend.

This was my 1st race I have ever run at night. The course was really challenging with lots of sand & steep areas with rocks. It actually made it a lot more fun & something different. The beginning of the race was amazing with the huge bright moon rising in the desert right in front of all the runners running towards it. Than when we got on the more trial area it was completely dark but you could see all the head lights of the 2000 runners like a snake for miles. Something you would never get to see. There was lots of post race entertainment and even a free star show and food after. I recommend this race if you are tired of the same old races.

Going into this race it looked like it would be a piece of cake to run. It looked flat from the elevation chart and in a big loop; I figured I would get my best half marathon time. This is not the case, the elevation was a killer, half of the race is trail running and the uphill seemed like forever. Between the altitude and the hills a lot of runners were walking up some of the hills. It had also raining all night and you had to dodge puddles during the whole course (literally sometimes going off the trial onto the hill). The course goes though town and than off in dense forest, once you get to around 8 miles you run along a river and it really is beautiful and you feel like you are running though Yellowstone Park. The volunteers on the race course and race staff were amazing with plenty of water and restroom stations. My favorite part of the race is 12 miles of this race is out in the back country and besides the runners you are the only ones out there. This turned out to be a really fun race in the end. Make sure to plan this race with the Tetons Half which is the weekend before

This was my favorite Vacation Races run I have done to date. The weather was perfect for running with lots of sun, the scenery was amazing! They had the race course perfectly mapped to get a view of the Teton Mountains during the majority of the race. There were even hot air balloons flying around during the race. First time doing the 15K Shamrock race. To start off with don’t plan on getting any kind of personal best. It’s very crowded, 6,000 people did the 15k. With no room to pass anyone the first mile. With that said this year they really put on a good show. They have great music & dancing at the starting line to keep your mind off how cold you are. They do a great job keeping everything together with the 4 different distances with a total of 25,000 people that attend. This year they even had to change the course last minute because the City doesn’t have a enough police offers. The new course was beautiful up in the forest above the city with live bands on the way. There was a lot of up hill in the middle but that equaled some nice downhill on the way down. Lots of free stuff & entertainment after the race. The weather was amazing this year with sun but not to hot. For this years portland Shamrock I have to give for shoes overall.

Lots of hotels to stay at walking distance from the starting line. Tons of restaurants and entertainment in the town. The race its self was really tough for a few miles (all up hill) but on the way back down it had amazing views of the Rocky Mountains well worth it. Don’t expect to get your best time with the 3 miles of up hill and the thin air being 8000 above sea level. Again Vacation Races puts on a amazing race with lots of entertainment all weekend. I wish I would have done the 5K the night before. Plan a week vacation when doing this race.

This was my first run with Vacation Races. All I have to say is it was the most organized and fun race I have ever ran. We even had pouring down cold rain at the start of the race but the organizers did an amazing job keeping the race on track and fun! They sent out messages to make sure we had a heads up about the changing weather. The course was amazing with the snow on top of the mountains and each turn had a new scenic look. The end of the course was well organized with lots of fun things to do and see with plenty to drink and eat. The town was a great place for a drink and lunch later in the afternoon and it was right at the finish line. After this race I plan to do every half marathon Vacation Races has.

First race I did in my 40’s while I was on my birthday vacation. This race is the perfect time of the year if you ever wanted to do a race in Palm Springs. The weather was amazing all the local community was so friendly. The course goes though amazing neighborhoods of million dollar homes in the hills. It does have a lot of up hill for such a short race. At the end they give awards for age divisions & even medals for the best times for dogs in the race. You also get a free green pancake breakfast from the Lions Club in town. It also helps out local charities. This really was one of my all time favorite races.

This was my 3rd Shamrock Run, 2nd in the 15K. Weather was perfect, it seemed to be way more organized and less crowded this time around. I think they spread the race times out better for all the different races like 5k, 8k, 15k, half & some of the shorter walks. In the past you couldn’t even move in places before the race. I enjoyed this one the best of all the ones I have run. That hill on mile 3 is a killer, my legs still hurt!
