The Capital City River Run in Lansing, Michigan, is a flat and fast course held each September that delivers everything you’d want in a fall race: perfect temps, scenic views along the River, and quirky trivia signs posted throughout to keep your mind as engaged as your legs. The route offers a mix of downtown energy, leafy riverside trails, and wide, runnable streets, making it ideal for first-timers, PR chasers, or anyone easing back from a training setback. Race production is excellent with clear signage, plentiful aid stations, and upbeat volunteers, creating a smooth experience from start to finish. The finish line energy was celebratory without being overwhelming, complete with music, cheering spectators, and a supportive atmosphere. Swag was top-notch, with a soft, stylish hoodie that remains my favorite piece of race gear and a solid medal worth keeping. Benefitting the Impression 5 Science Center and hosted with Playmakers, this event combines fun, organization, and purpose, making it a must-run for Michigan locals and visitors alike.

When I went to packet pick up they didn’t have my bib anymore? They had no idea what happened to my bib and why it wasn’t there. So they assigned me a new bib. Well after i finished running that morning I got an email that wow I finished the race and it was my old bib number. They never changed the bibs with the timing company so someone else ran with my bib in my name. They then couldn’t figure out why i was upset and why I wanted it changed. They were like you got your swag. Wow…what a very poorly run race. I have run hundreds of races and never have had something like this happen and the mistakes kept compounding. I requested a refund and they couldn’t understand why. Please run a different race.

Weather this year was brutal, but the course is great and the course support and entertainment was awesome!! We finished on the field at Cooley Law School stadium and enjoyed lots of post race refreshments. They were great in providing us with cooling cloths at the end, too. Bag check was a snap. Packet pickup and correspondence was excellent. Bravo!
great race!
well organized, nice course through the city and then on the river trail. Good support, usually good weather, too. A Michigan classic race, added a marathon so many race options. MORE
