Log Run Half Marathon
Stillwater, MN
Sep 19, 2026
The Log Run Half Marathon, 10 mile, 10K and 5K is a superb, mostly downhill race with a gentle descent ending in downtown Stillwater, Minnesota. It’s been known as one of the fastest 10-mile courses around. Participants come back year-after-year for this one and it’s easy to see why; it’s … MORE

This is a very respectable 5k course with a few rolling hills and a trip into downtown Stillwater. The course begins by the Boom Site and starts with a weird loop where you end up passing everyone that started the race a bit slowed and the rest is down on the side of the road blocked with cones. There were two things I could do without:
1. The road wasn’t completely blocked off. Although we had the shoulder blocked, cars still flew right by and you wouldn’t have the best time running with a group.
2. There was maybe 200m of grass you had to run on right before the finish line. I understand there wasn’t really another area to put the finish line, but I wasn’t a huge fan of this.

Packet Pick Up: I’d recommend just picking up the morning of race. There is nothing special at pick up, you just get your bib and shirt and parking can be challenging in the evening in Stillwater.
Start Line: Wasn’t well organized. Porta Potties were on the side of road which caused ppl to form lines into the street. This was also the staging area for the start so you had ppl trying to wait in line for bathrooms while also lining up. Wondered if they could have placed them across the street on that side street? Clear plastic bags are given for gear and you can keep your stuff right up to the start, which is nice. I only saw 2 pacers which was super disappointing. The race started “on” a hill which wasn’t so fun.
Course: The first several miles were long steep hills and then it moved into more rollers. The course does give you some overall down hill but I didn’t really feel it. There was one stretch that was 1-2 miles on a packed dirt road which was very uncomfortable on my body. I didn’t care for this course at all as there was nothing to see but trees and grass. There was no lakes, water, pretty houses, etc. You do come into to Stillwater and see the river but not until the last mile. Then you run a good distance across the grass and with the TC Marathon only 2 wks away I was praying I didn’t hit a pot hole in the grass. The course is also a true “road” race as the ENTIRE thing was on the shoulder of roads that were not closed off. There was a good distance we were running on the right side of the road which I didn’t understand from a safety perspective (to not be able to see cars coming at you). I did however like the number of porta potties on the course because you run through the start lines of the 10 mile, 10K, and 5K so in all those areas were a group of porta potties. Just wish I had realized that before standing in line at the one porta at mile 4. Just wish these were marked on the map. At Min. put them on the map at packet pick up on the board.
Overall: I did the series of 5 races but would not do this one again. Might be a good race for someone prepping for Ragnar to get you used to running on the shoulder of roads for a long period of time…but being that it comes after MN Ragnar (Aug) not sure that is helpful.

This course is a tough one, lots and lots of rolling hills. The start of the race is uphill and it’s a bit tough. There is lots of downhill but that also means uphill. The finish line is downhill a bit so that’s a nice way to finish.
