From pre-race communications all the way through to post race snacks and festivities, this event far exceeded my expectations! Even the minor aspects, (such as parking) which can sometimes turn the whole mood around, were handled beautifully! The race swag, atmosphere, scenery, and organization were all top notch. I will definitely be returning next year… and bringing all of my friends!

Super pretty course. It was challenging, plenty of hills and this particular day it was too warm for my personal for long distance race preference. The bathroom lines were ridiculously long. Yay for wave start! Longed the pit stop volunteers. Packet pick up was easy peasy. And the 1/4 zip top is very comfortable. I also purchased a shirt with all race participants names on it!

Ft. Benjamin Harrison half is a beautiful run through a historic area in Indianapolis. The event is put together very smoothly. It is not a great course for a first timer half. It’s somewhat hilly and some of the hills are quite steep. It’s a must run in Indiana!

This was my first time running this race and I really enjoyed this race. The course is so beautiful! With it being fall the leaves are so beautiful and while we ran the trail leaves were falling all around. There were some ‘hills’ which for me I wasn’t ready for, but I suppose for others who don’t run on flat paths it wouldn’t be bad. I was 2 minutes shy of a PR and I have a feeling the hills were a big factor for me. Next year I hope to go back and be more prepared. The half ends with trails through the trees which is really nice because it gets you out of the sun. Many water stops which are important and really easy to get to the race.
    I highly recommend this course!

Overall, the race is great! Challenging enough, but very well supported with volunteers and staff. The only complaint is that there is no same day packet pick up. After arriving to the race, it seemed as if it would be very realistic to accommodate that. This was a pretty course with plenty of pacers to keep you on track. While on the course it felt as if it was a small race with somewhat of a trail running feel, but had the start/finish that of a big race! Overall I would highly recommend this race!

Chose this as my half Marathon debut. Scenery was awesome and competition was decent as well. I must admit, the hills caught be off guard and would have done a better job at peeping for the hills better if I knew there would be so many. Only complaint were the kids towards the end of the race who were in the 5k. A lot of them got in the way of the half marathoners in the home stretch and I had to swivile around them. Some even tried to race me right next me. Volunteers throughout the course were awesome. Would still love to do it again next year.

I enjoyed the scenery, volunteers were in great numbers and friendly. 1/4 zip and medal are so great for this time of year! Cookout was super nice.

The only thing that could maybe be enhanced would be spectators and music. There were quite a few spots where it would have been nice to have people around, difficult I know due to the nature of the course.

Overall, highly recommend and would do it again.

The course is very pretty, heading through portions of the Fort Harrison State Park and the surrounding neighborhoods. While there aren’t any that are super steep to really trip you up, there are quite a few rolling hills that really add to the challenge of the race that you’d want to be prepared for.

This is a lovely setting for a race. Small expo. Good production though. Fire pits to warm up before the race were a great touch! My only complaint was the large number of kids participating in the race. I love that the organization works with the schools to promote fitness but I wish the kids started at the back. There was a lot of stopping and starting and zigging and zagging.

Beautiful course, though a shame the leaves hadn’t really started changing as they have in previous years. A little challenging with some of the hills, but still did better than I had hoped for. Looking forward to next year.

I couldn’t imagine a better race to call my first Half Marathon. The weather was absolutely perfect, to begin with. The air was crisp and a bit chilly at the start, but not so cold that I felt like my chest was going to cave in or that my fingers would go numb.

The participant pool seemed sizable enough, but I never felt like I was having to push my way through. Any congestion at the race’s start was easily navigable after a quarter mile at the most.

Miles were marked very clearly, and there were time clocks at the 5K, 10K, and 15K point. As someone who was not wearing a stop watch or a GPS, this was very helpful.

The race had plenty of water/gatorade stops, as well as port-a-potties. My one qualm here is that I felt that there should have been some consistency with the handing out of the gatorade and water. Either gatorade is always first and followed by water. Or gatorade is always on the left and water is on the right. It was hard to tell what I was grabbing at times.

I wouldn’t call this race flat, but I wouldn’t call it super hilly either. There are a few hills that were a bit challenging. One between miles 2 and 3 (not so bad, as I wasn’t exhausted at this point), and one between miles 10 and 11 (this one was rough, not so much because it was super steep but rather because it was toward the end; I noticed several runners walking it).

My favorite part was the portion that went on the trails through the park. Something about running through the forest makes the run much more enjoyable, and really reenergizes me. I was not a huge fan of the stretch on 56th (maybe because the majority of it was a gradual incline and the sun was in my eyes), but the rest was quite lovely.

There were a good amount of spectators at the start/finish line, and a few folks around the 5 & 6 mile marks, but for the most part it’s just you and the other runners out there. The volunteers were incredible and so full of energy and encouragement. They are the real heroes, in my book.

I would highly recommend this race to anyone, beginner or otherwise. The main thing I would definitely advise would be to do plenty of hill training in advance of the race. I only had one and a half weeks of hills under my belt, and while I made it without walking, I definitely could have used at least another week or two of varied elevation prep.

All in all, and incredible race. I will definitely be doing it again next year!

I have done this race 5 times. I was disappointed when they took the full marathon away, but I enjoy the half marathon as well. It is a beautiful and challenging course with the right amount of hills. I love how it never feels crowded, but you are never alone, either. The course is plenty wide for all runners Sobyou never feel like you are fighting for room. There are plenty of water/Gatorade stations along the way. After the race, the free cookout and warm and cozy campfires were a great way to recover! I will definitely be back next year! My sister and I have made this race an annual tradition.

It does have a few hills but this race has improved as I ran in back in 2009. Lots of fueling stations and restrooms. Great vibe. Everyone was super friendly. I didn’t care much for being required to pick up my race packet the day before. Also if you arrive an hour early- it is too early b/c there is no shelter and the mornings are cold. At 40-45 degrees, you should bring a blanket or put on lots of layers and have a way to retrieve them after the race. But the event is an A+ event in my book.
