This is a well run race that begins and ends smoothly. The course is relatively flat and runs through several good Chicago landmarks. The course is well supported although one additional water station on the back half would be good especially when the weather is hot and humid as it was in 2019. Several years ago, they moved the race start into the stadium which I think adds to the uniqueness of this race. The last five miles are run on the lakefront trail which is also a highlight to the Chicago running scene. This is also an easy race to get to and there are, of course, many nearby hotels for people coming in for the race.
Start and Finish in Soldier Field.

I love this race. It’s a very well run race. There are a lot of people participating, but the staff and volunteers are excellent! There are moments of Chicago Skyline, but it’s the usual Chicago downtown course, so if you are used to running Chicago races – it’s nothing special. EXCEPT you finish on the 50 yard line of Soldier Field, there are members of the military handing out the medals & that’s fun too. Great snacks afterwards. Well done race.
Worth it for the final 100 meters

This annual race marks the true start of summer for many Chicagoans. Held on the Saturday of Memorial Day weekend, it runs down and up the Chicago Lakefront, first on outer Lake Shore Drive and then on the popular bike path. It begins just outside the famous Soldier Field and ends on the 50-yard line. In between, it’s a pretty standard out-and-back with five aid stations and trees for shade. Since half of it takes place on a path that I run every week, I haven’t ever really justified paying for it. But for anyone who doesn’t live near Museum Campus, it’s a fun race. Plus, I had never been inside Soldier Field, so for my first exposure to be running through the field in the very center of the glass and steel enclosure was surprisingly awe-inspiring. Most runners were sprinting the finish, but I was too busy staring wide-eyed at the majestic structure that enveloped me.
