If at all possible I will return to this race. I was a first time visitor and I really felt like the views from the course made for a wonderful and enjoyable experience. I love that we ran over the dam. I would like to come back and have a few more days available to spend exploring this area. This is definitely a destination worth taking a vacation for.

Vacation Races gets an A++ on this one. Absolutely breathtaking course! Beautiful start through Page, AZ before heading out of town for a few miles of trail through gorgeous landscape before heading across the Glen Canyon Damn bridge. Traffic well controlled to give runners/walkers plenty of room. Great views every step of the way. Glad I had my camera handy. I’m a walker so the 4hr cut-off left me with plenty of time to enjoy the sights. Extremely well organized. All of the staff are super friendly. Tip – volunteer at the Expo the day before to meet all the runners, socialize, have fun & earn a discount off another National Park race.

This was my very first Half Marathon, and boy was I spoiled! I thought the organization of this race was phenomenal. They send a packet of information to your email to review, and they have everything on hand for you during the expo before the race. I was able to get all my questions answered, along with tons of support from the people organizing the event. I even paid for the Terry Chiplin Positive Race Mindset Program. I liked his meditative approach to racing and gearing your mind up for an awesome race. During the race, I thought everything was so thought out and organized. Bathrooms, water, and aid stations were perfectly placed. I appreciated the fact that they had bananas and oranges at a few of the stops for more energy. I did bring my own Stinger Chews, but they had gels for free well! The pacers during the race was so supportive and cheered us on whenever we passed them. I never felt so included and loved. The views were spectacular. The blue water against the red sandy mountains was so pretty, we stopped to take pictures at a few of the most picturesque spots. Could not help myself. It was nice and cool out during this time of year, I hardly broke a sweat, so you know I looked good for those photo areas. That was a such a nice thing that the race offers free photos to be sent to your email. What a great memory this weekend was. I loved how at the end, the announcer had shared information about us to the crowd as we crossed the finish line. Felt like a rockstar. It was so fun! The snacks at the end were a wonderful refresher. The metal was HUGE. I have been wearing it at work all day. I am so happy we chose Lake Powell as our first Half Marathon and we plan on signing up for more vacation races soon!

Fantastic race! If you’re looking for a relatively moderate, scenic and beautiful race, you’ve found it. I enjoyed the drive there, camping at Lone Rock and the drive home. It’s a destination race that will wow you throughout. I liked that you had your own hyrdro water bottle. It was actually better than grabbing water from a passerby. Wish there were more offers of snacks other than stingers at the aid stations, but it was still fantastic. Only thing to note is the time change between the state line wasn’t really emphasized so since I was staying at lone rock, I woke up at 5:30 Utah time, got there at 6:15 Utah time, but was there at 5:15 Arizona time & had to wait the hour in the 38 degree morning weather I was trying to avoid. I wish the time difference was emphasized more for us forgetful people 🙂 the wait was very cold but the hot water provided kept me warm for the most part

This was my first Vacation Race and it was absolutely awesome! For the most part there’s no incline or decline but you have to be careful because you run on some rocky areas. You run in the neighborhood for about 3 miles and there after it will be the most beautiful view of the formation rocks. Then, you will run aside the Glen Canyon Dam which was magnificent. I was happy running this race because it was peaceful and so much more different than running through the cities. I will definitely be running more Vacation Races!

The course is gorgeous – it has a nice blend of road and trail – I loved the trail portion! There were really bad winds at the packet pickup but that sounded unusual – it did not make the outdoor expos fun to attend at all but you can’t control Mother Nature and I’m sure most years it’s fine. My one complaint was having to get to the bus pickup so early – it was really cold and the last shuttle from the start left at 4:45am, which left us about 90 minutes in the dark and cold = not sure if fires could have been lit but that would’ve helped. As a first timer, I was impressed with Vacation Races – they do everything they can to make the race a positive experience for the runner. From the pre-race packet, to the final email, it was top notch. Thanks you!

Having done 5 half marathons, this was by far the coolest race I have ever done and I traveled 2,268 miles from Washington D.C. with my mom to do it. As a runner, have you ever driven down a desert road and thought, “I wish I could just get out and run”? Well, this race allowed me to run on the kind of landscape where you can see forever with nothing obstructing the horizon. The pink and orange sunrise was beautiful and definitely helped the adrenaline kick in. Running on the powdery red rock was unreal and the camaraderie amongst the other runners and the volunteers made this race have the upmost success. Shout out to all those who made this race truly a vacation. We are only half crazy for thinking a half marathon is a vacation, right?

Wish I had felt better on this day. I LOVED the course. A mile or so is on a trail with the beautiful lake as background. Some gentle downhill was appreciated and a run across the Glenn Canyon Dam is amazing. Finish is right by the boat ramp with busses ready to go back to the start. As always the medals are the best. Love the National Park series!

Lake Powell is one of the most beautiful places on earth. And this course shows it off! It was such a beautiful run, I had to stop to take pictures multiple times (even though I go to Lake Powell at least once a year). The route has a little of everything from pavement to asphalt to trail. It is largely downhill, so it is a pretty fast course. The aid stations are well stocked, and the snack box at the finish was awesome. The race was extremely well organized. It was my first half marathon, and I loved it so much, I did another one a couple months later, and I am signed up for 4 more for 2017, including Lake Powell again! I’m looking forward to my next vacation race!

Medal: Better than expected, very well designed
Aid Stations: pretty run of the mill
Expo: Very little swag or freebies, but it’s a smaller race so I didn’t have high expectations
Weather: Not a lot of shade so the sun started to get a little warm the last hour or so
Course: First 2 miles (or thereabouts) was pretty flat through Page. The next few miles were on a trail. It was nice to have a change off of the road but it seemed to get a little congested through part. To the point where you couldn’t run at some tighter spots on the trail. The trail was also pretty sandy so footing was a little tricky. Other than that the scenery is absolutely breathtaking. Highly recommend!
