This race was beautiful. It is the perfect time of year to visit the Hot Springs. The race was smooth from sign up to finish. It was an anniversary and I would have liked some extra swag, but the half marathon finishers did get a long sleeve shirt which is nice quality. The course is totally paved. You run through town, a park, and of course up both summits. The road up the summits is a little sloped so a little harder on the ankles but not bad. I walked the up and took advantage of the down!! After party had pizza, soup, hamburgers, grilled cheese, beer….it was great. Although I am never hungry right after running, I was able to take the soup with me.
Bonus…get a spa treatment later in the day or stay and get one on Sunday. We spent 3 days there and did our typical runcation fun learning about the town, exploring, and don’t miss Superior Bathhouse Brewery if you love beer. Tackle the 18 – 4oz pours of their beer made with thermal spring water.
I hope you enjoy mountains!

I did the 10k last year and did the half this year. The half had me going up two mountains. It wasn’t ever very steep, but you were definitely going uphill. Of course, going downhill and the flat areas are fun. The volunteers, production, security, etc. was all fantastic. The medal was huge and flashy. Also, the after party festival made all my calf pain worth it. So much hot food and snacks. You won’t leave hungry.

This was a great race. The race was very organized and volunteers were wonderful! The hills…oh my! Your calves will be feeling the 2-3 miles of straight up hill, then 2-3 miles of straight downhill…then REPEAT at the next summit. Everyone was very friendly. This is a great race for anyone using the Jeff Galloway run-walk-run training method. I’m so grateful to have been able to do this race. I highly recommend it. Oh yes! You can’t beat the medal! It’s the size of my hand!

The two mountains are challenging, but absolutely worth it. When you climb the first, you can see the peak of the second—and once you reach the top of the second, looking back at where you started is incredible. Plus, the run takes place in the fall, so you get to enjoy all the beautiful autumn colors along the way.

The Spa Running Festival is my current hometown event (includes 5k, 10k, & half marathon). I have raced the 10k previously, but this year was the first time to get to do the half marathon. This course is very tough due to two long, hard climbs; however, you get tremendous payoff from your energy investment in the downhill and beautiful Fall scenery (in a National Park, no less). I can’t say enough positives about the organization, the food afterwards, and the sweet shirt/medals afforded to finishers!

It is challenging because of the elevation but so rewarding when you finish and you get to experience the beautiful scenery of Hot Springs. I absolutely love running this race and will probably continue to run it each year. I love the metals as well they are so wonderfully crafted.

About mile 9 I was by myself and this deer walked out in front of me and just stood there looking at me, it was pretty awesome
Staff and volunteers were great
Packet pickup was super easy at expo
Swag was awesome medal had 3 spinners & lights up and I got a half zip pullover

I have had this race on my list but I was skittish on pulling the trigger until I saw it was part of the Natural State Running Series. Something about running up a mountain had me scared to death.
They have a small expo when you pick up your race packet at the convention center. As far as race swag, if you signed up for the half you got a tech pullover which was nice quality.
On race day the weather started out chilly but it did warm up as time passed. The half marathon takes you through some of the visitor spots that most want to see when you come to Hot Springs. The entire course is paved roads. There was a lot of walking up the mountains and running down. The police department did an excellent job of allowing runners to pass through busy sections. Plenty of aide stations for this one. You had to bring your own nutrition though. The medal was pretty cool as it did light up. Would I do the summit to summit again-may be. I would likely sign up for the 10k next go round. It only has one summit!
