Great spectators, lots of free beer and fireball shots on course, a great time in general. I would not pick this race to try to PR, lots of rolling hills. MORE

So a 12K is roughly 7.6 miles, I would say train for a 10k basically, starts off with a huge downhill which is nice, most of the course is on bridges overlooking the water, with Mobile in the distance. Very nice views, can see the Battleship finish from a good distance as well. Very well produced with good swag.

Luckily it didn’t get as hot as they were predicting, decent amount of fluid, and snack stations, wish they had more than one flavor of gatorade. I think there was like 3 biofreeze stations along the way (not that I would partake during the race, that stuff tastes terrible, lol), overall a relatively flat course, good crowd participation, thanks for the can of ICE COLD Coors at mile 19.

Lots of local support, encouragement and alcoholic beverages. The pint sized Jambalaya after the race really hits the spot. Course is relatively flat with the exception of a bridge a mile in and a mile from the end (the perk is you can smell fresh baked bread on the bridge as the Merita plant is nearby). Love this race.

Very nice area outside of Shreveport, LA. Kind of disappointed to find out we couldn’t run through the prison, but i understand safety first. Morning started at about 58 degrees, I ran the 50K (two loops), very good turnout. First lap everyone was fairly together for the first 2-3 miles, then the thinning of the herd started. The elevation changes on this trail, the roots, and switchbacks all made this a pretty serious trail run. I managed to do the first loop in a little over 3hrs, but after the barbeque lunch (which was very good) and a diet coke, I realized my pacing was off. The second loop was a slog for me, even though the weather was almost perfect (just a little warm, 74-75) during the early afternoon. Ended up doing a quick walk for the second loop for fear of twisting an ankle, heard about others that broke toes. Finished slightly before dark. I would imagine that the trail becomes very hairy if it were to rain either before the race or during.

So even though this was postponed from mid Jan to start of March it started off quite chilly (43 and very breezy). Standard covid precautions done, very orderly start, great flat course, good snacks along the way, with plenty of public support for alcohol (Mimosas, bloody marys, beer, etc), a great time. THe post race jambalaya was a great touch.
