Unique and entertaining run, completely underground. The buses to the start line were great and so timely that our time outside in the cold was limited. 5K was one loop, and the 10K was the same loop twice. Good volunteer support and the medals were nice. The only disappointment was for doing the 5K+10K Challenge, all we got was a little connector piece to connect the two medals. Thought it should be a little more substantial, even a third medal would be awesome. Don’t think I’d do this run again because it kind of gets stuffy inside the cave, but it was fun to do at least once!

This was a fun Halloween-themed run. They had us park at Six Flags and then take a bus to the race start. Mostly flat, easy course through the town of Eureka, MO. Course was extremely well-marked and there were a good amount of water stations and crowd support. Nice long-sleeved tech shirt and medal. Plenty of treats afterwards including donuts, beer, chips, bananas, and candy! Would definitely do this run again!

This is the third race (and in my opinion, the best) of the Lake Tahoe Trifecta. We started at the top where there were scenic views and a group playing alpine horns. Then a person playing bagpipes led us down to the start. This was definitely a great downhill to mostly flat run. The first mile or two were downhill, and the rest was mostly winding routes on the bike path. Again, just some gorgeous views! We also crossed over where the red salmon were spawning. Lots of water stations… at least twice as many as the other two races… and treats at those stations too. Lots more crowd support than the previous days, and there were at least twice the number of participants. This one ended up being my best time even though it was the third half of the weekend. It ended at the beach, where there was live music and treats for sale. The homemade Popsicles were awesome! I did the Lake Tahoe Trifecta, so we had a special medal and a license plate cover to pick up. I didn’t see any signage indicating where to go for that and had to ask someone. Overall a great race though.

This is the second race of the Lake Tahoe Trifecta. Right away it started out gorgeous, at the beach! It started out not too bad, but there was a huge and long hill around mile 3. It was steep enough that lots of people were walking it, so be prepared! Fortunately there was a water station at the top of that hill. The turns were not as well-marked on this one, and with being a slow runner there were several times I was unsure which way to go. I even made a wrong turn once. We went through some absolutely gorgeous neighborhoods right on the water, and we were routed through a boat docking area too where the views were beautiful. There were only 3 water stations at this one too, so make sure to bring your own hydration. The time limit is more open than they say, because they did let everyone finish. They also allow slow runners to start early. The race director bombarded us with daily emails which seemed to contradict other things, but even he titled them as “nags.”

This is the first race of the Lake Tahoe Trifecta. They tout this run as being “mostly downhill,” but I didn’t find that to be true. It started going uphill in mile 2! Overall it wasn’t bad (and definitely worth it for the views) but don’t expect as much downhill as they say. Turns were well-marked except one, but they drilled that one into us repeatedly so we didn’t miss it! There were only 3 water stations and they were spread pretty far apart, so make sure to bring your own hydration. The time limit is not as strict as they say. I could have gone faster but stopped to take lots of pics, but even with that, plenty of people were allowed
to finish and finished after me. The race director bombarded us with emails which seemed to contradict other things, but even he titles them as “nags.”

This race is well-organized, from packet pickup to race day. The course was challenging… lots of ups and downs throughout… but the views along the way as well as at the Top of the Rock were gorgeous. We got to go through the cave there. It was a neat experience, although I was nearly throughthe cave by the time my eyes adjusted. The shirt is a very nice quality UA shirt, and the medal was absolutely gorgeous! We did have to make special arrangements to pick up our packets, because it was 2 days prior to the race and a short window. I finished dead last, but there were still lots of people cheering me at the finish. Good snacks, with beer and liquor samples too! The only negative things were that some of the route was on open road with traffic, and there was a lot of traffic congestion getting to parking. Thankfully the race started a few minutes late, or we wouldn’t have made it in time. Would absolutely do this race again!

This half marathon offered bacon at all the water stations and at the beginning and end of the run! It was supposed to be 3 loops and that’s what was said at the beginning… then we were told 4 loops during the race. Overnight storms caused trees to fall across the running route in several places making it short, which also caused the race to start about 45 minutes late for the ones they did clear. A medal would have been nice, but the bacon-themed race shirt was cool. I would be interested in doing this one again, although one out-and-back would be preferable to the 3 loops.

Second year doing this one. The race is fun yet challenging and coincides with Tom Sawyer Days. Overall it’s not too hilly… until you get to Lover’s Leap! It’s TOUGH!! It was hot, and I was pretty winded by the time I got to the top, so I took a couple of minutes to catch my breath, drink some water, and enjoy the view. There is a good portion of the run along the Mississippi River, and there are a good amount of water stations. The shirt has been nice both years, but the medal is only so-so. We plan on doing the anniversary one in a couple of years.

They bus you out to the start of the race since it’s point to point. I didn’t like getting up so early to catch a bus, and the line waiting for the bus was quite long. However, we made it to the race start with about 15 minutes to spare. Thankfully I didn’t need to use the bathroom, because there was a long line at the Porta potties at the start! The route was scenic, good views of Lake Superior for most of the run. The infamous Lemon Drop Hill was not nearly as intimidating as I expected. Living in the Ozarks, we tackle hills pretty regularly. The Hospital Hill Run in Kansas City was MUCH hillier in comparison. The crowd support along the entire course was absolutely fantastic! Music, drinks, food… lots of people with funny signs and dressed up too! I loved how they marked the miles and the Porta potties with balloons. There did seem to be a Porta potty shortage… it seemed like there was a long line every time I passed one. I did the Great Grandma’s Challenge so I got an extra medal, but I struggled with figuring out where to go for that. I also got a drink ticket that was for Bayfront Park, and I was unsure how to get there from the end of the race. Some signage for those things would have been useful. I didn’t have a drop bag, but the process for finding them at the end looked very organized. Decent snacks after the race. The tech shirts were nice, and the medals were high-quality. Only complaint overall was that any hotel nearby was probably double the going rate, but it was easy to take the Skywalk to the expo and to catch the bus in the morning. Will probably go back for the 50th Anniversary in 2026!

This is my second time running this one. I ran the 5K last year so went for the half this year. Unfortunately, I didn’t finish between the rain with hail and dealing with a few prior injuries. This was my third time at this event. 5K, then 10K, and now half marathon. It was advertised this would be a big event… with music spanning the 50 years since the run started, and lots of crowd and neighborhood support. That DID NOT happen. There was minimal support by anyone outside of the volunteers. Water stations were plentiful, but one of the stations in the middle was already putting their tables away when I came through… and there were still lots of people behind me. The hills, heat, and humidity really got to me this year. The medal and the commemorative jacket were nice, but I was definitely disappointed in the lack of neighborhood support and the snacks post-race. Don’t know that I will do this run anymore.

Run through the streets of downtown Joplin. A few hills but nothing terrible. Amazing crowd support at the start and end of the race, and the volunteers were great too! My only complaint as far as the race goes were the water stations seemed too spaced out. The first one was nearly 2 miles in, and then the last two were near the end. No porta potties on the course but a lot at the race start. Nice-quality t-shirt and very nice medal! Post-race snacks were some of the best I’ve ever had… lots of drinks ranging from Gatorade to water to chocolate milk to beer and full-size sandwiches from Jimmy John’s AND Chick-fil-a. Will definitely be doing this race again!

While there was pavement in the beginning, there was more trail than I expected. It was mostly packed gravel so not too bad, but there were also more hills than I expected. I mistakenly followed the runners in front of me just after passing the second water station, and we all made a right turn that went straight uphill, adding another 400ish ft of elevation and another half mile to the already tough run. There were 5 water stations, which probably would have been fine if the weather were a bit cooler. At least the water and Gatorade were cold every time! I managed to finish, but it was a struggle with the heat and humidity. An angel of a volunteer brought me a full bottle of water, and another gave me an almost frozen one and refilled it for me. So thankful for them!! Nice shirt and medal, and even though they were putting things away by the time I finished, the volunteers went and grabbed me water and snacks.

The weather forecast kept saying no rain, up until just a couple of days before the race. The torrential downpour started minutes into the run, and though it lightened up, it still rained for hours. I embraced it and just kept moving. This race is hilly for a good portion! I recently had surgery so was planning a walk/run method. I hit those first set of hills though and had to revise. Towards the end it goes downhill for awhile, so I was able to pick up the pace again. The crowd support was absolutely amazing and kept me going when I was soaked to the core and just wanted to stop. Plenty of water stops too! The expo was large with lots of great merch, and the swag was great!! Beautiful, hefty medals for all of the runs, nice shirts, a premium bag, and a poster too! I would definitely consider this race again, in spite of the challenges faced this year.

This race starts and ends at Chadwick School. This was the 12th Annual, looks like only about 50-60 people run it, and that’s mostly students. We started in the parking lot, moved over to the sidewalk as we left the school and ended up on some small country roads after the sidewalk ended. All paved, but there were quite a lot of ups and downs. It was also chilly and windy! The swag is only a t-shirt, although it IS a nice shirt. Not much in the way of scenery or crowd support, although there were a couple of people cheering at the end. Snacks were water and granola bars.

Pretty flat and smooth out-and-back course. For the 10K, we got to run part of it on the nearby airport runway while planes were actually taking off on the other runway. A couple of areas were not clearly marked. At the 3 mile mark, I saw a few people turning to head back, but the turnaround was a little bit after that. I can understand the confusion a little because the trail went off the runway there. An arrow at the 3-mile mark indicating we were to continue past would have fixed that. I was a few minutes between other runners, so I got slightly lost on the way back. After the last water station, the orange cones ended, ao I had a little difficulty trying to figure out which direction to go. I ended up going slightly out of my way to read the signs posted on nearby streets. The race had a nice shirt and bib, but the medal was chintzy. I missed my free beer since I finished the run pretty late, but the crowd support was really great! Would do this run again, but a nicer medal would be appreciated!!

This was mostly country gravel roads except a bit of pavement at the beginning and the end (since it was out and back)… not too bad on elevation except mile 6 was straight uphill before going back down in for mile 7. There were a couple of places where the road divided, and it was unclear which way to go. Fortunately I made the right choices, but I saw someone else who didn’t and caught up with me later. Very pretty scenery. Swag was simple… a patch and a keychain… which was nice since I have lots of shirts and medals already! Would run again!

Thoroughly enjoyed this run as my first Ultra! It didn’t seem as intimidating breaking it up into 5K intervals, but it was still a challenge with a run every 2.5 hours and not getting much sleep! The course was easy but scenic along the Arkansas River Trail. The “medal” at the end was a small handmade wooden coffin with the logo branded in it… unique and cool, a great conversation piece. Plenty of food was provided, but I do wish there’d been more drink options and ice.

This night race was my second difficult 10K trail run. It is an out and back course (5K repeated twice) that starts off quite hilly with lots of loose gravel, but it’s even harder to come back down that hill on the way back. The race is in a state park, so there are lots of trees and wildlife… I came across a tarantula after it got dark. The production was great… LOTS of food, drinks, and support. The medal was huge!! The t-shirt was really great too. I would definitely consider tackling it again.

This is the first in a series of three this year, and they give you a medal for completing all three runs. Fairly easy course, but it isn’t well-lit after the 5K portion. This is the last year of these races at this point though, or I would possibly do it again.
