With great sadness the last Clinton Half never got off the ground. I’d had my butt kicked at it two years ago and I was really shooting for a redemption run, but Mother Nature said it was not to be, and everybody was converted to a 5k. The abridged course was nice, and showed a lot of what the town has to offer as far as rolling hills and small-town charm, but I felt cheated not getting that 13.1 that I’d thought about for over a year.
The tshirt and medal are the same image. A nice, framed, serene landscape, and the medal is huge. It’s a good 50% larger than the standard half size, and it’s every bit as hefty and well designed as you’d expect. Clinton has some great local eateries on the town square that forms the start and finish. This race is quite a drive for me, so I don’t know if I’ll be back every year for the 10k they are adding, but I would have, gladly, for the half. Because she’s the best running buddy anyone could ask for, ccruiz03 and I will be going back to run the half’s course unsupported on our own and hope the town has a change of heart and brings this great race back.

Well, this was the last year for the half marathon and Mother Nature decided it wasn’t going to happen. Very thankful for the race directors keeping us safe. They did allow everyone to run the 5K when we had a window to get it in. We still got our medals and oh my! it is the biggest medal I have and it has meaning to the city. Glad I took the drive there.

This was my first time running this race. It was a lot of fun. It poured all morning, so start time was delayed and the half marathon was canceled, but the 5k was a hit. It was a nice downtown run. It was a pretty flat course. Overall a really good experience!

This race ate me alive. It was so muggy my body armor felt twice as heavy, and for the first time ever I had to stop in the shade a couple of times and mentally regroup. There was only one portajohn on the backside of the race. Come on Clinton…you’re part of the Hometown Half Series. You can do better than that. The shirt was a decent weight cotton, but the medal was truly beautiful. It’s on the front row of this year’s medal hanger. It also came with a pint glass with the local roadhouse logo and the race logo.
The race saved the hills for the end, and honestly I’m glad. If they’d been first it would have been so demoralizing in that heat and humidity. I think in March it actually would have been a really fast course. The scenery was beautiful and the town square where it starts and finishes would certainly be worth some exploring that unfortunately I couldn’t do due to prior commitments, but I will be back. Aid stations had gatorade and water and the volunteers were super motivating.

I hope this particular half marathon/5K has finally found a permanent date in which to settle down. My first time doing this half marathon was in February 2019, and it was cold, gloomy & wet the whole time. Didn’t really bother me because I love half marathons almost regardless. Over the past few years, the date has been moved around spring time dates, and landing here in June is ideal. Weather this time was upper 60’s-low 70’s and it was humid. Well, it is the Missouri Midwest, ya know! Course was a usual course with very few hills excepting the last mile that includes a couple short but steep hills. Scenery was fine as Clinton, MO is a fine town with the Square, and there are some beautiful little neighborhoods & farmlands to enjoy. The Katy Trail is also fun to run on. Aid stations were plentiful and volunteers were more than happy to pass out water & Gatorade. If you’re looking for some extra running to do after the bulk of the running season is over, I definitely recommend this fun & enjoyable run. Plenty of local places to nosh at afterwards, too.
