The Battleship 12K is a patriotic run created in 2015 to honor all who have served our country. Inspired by the desire to recognize veterans who haven’t always received the welcome they deserve, this event thanks every man and woman who has worn the uniform – whether deployed in combat or served briefly.
From the stirring opening ceremonies and National Anthem to the spirited course and finishing at Battleship Memorial Park beside the USS Alabama, participants experience a profound sense of patriotism. Runners are greeted with by American flags and cheers of “Thank you for your service,” making every step a tribute.
The Battleship 12K is a simple point to point course. Runners start on Old Spanish Trail (Hwy 98) and turn right just past the old chamber of commerce to head down the hill. Runners will be in the southern most east bound lane and the emergency lane heading straight across Hwy 98 to the USS Alabama where they will be greeted to a patriotic welcome.

They emailed us the morning of race day and said the port a potties were not delivered so no bathrooms at the start line. By the time you hit the first aid station the lines were so long you just had to pass. Not to mention the cups were not even halfway filled. So bring your own hydration. The course was so so. Nothing to get excited about. A few bridges that gave you an uphill challenge and near the finish line you ran thru a field that was uneven. The best part was the coin you got once you finished the run. That was an upside after a mostly downside race. Expo was small and the merchandise was not that great. People working it were not very helpful or nice. Guess people skills are out the window. First and last time running this run. Was not worth the 300 mile trip we took.

So a 12K is roughly 7.6 miles, I would say train for a 10k basically, starts off with a huge downhill which is nice, most of the course is on bridges overlooking the water, with Mobile in the distance. Very nice views, can see the Battleship finish from a good distance as well. Very well produced with good swag.
Great 12K

I’ve participated in the race since its beginning. I’ve watched it grow in numbers, and it is one of my favorites because it supports veterans. The expo offers a few vendors but nothing major. The course is okay. There is not much to see along the route, but I love that the finish is at the USS Alabama. I recommend it! The medals are always nice, especially the series to represent each branch of service.
