Race course was changed up last minute this year so as opposed to running around the park you run the sea wall out and back. Very flat easy paved course on walking/biking trail.

The course was easy to follow, with only 3 water stops and the start finish was placed stupidly on the steepest incline of the course. There were only 6 porta potties but also real bathrooms at the start. (People were going 1 and 2 behind the buildings) WTH Bib pickup only went to 3pm the day before. So if you come from out of town… race day pick up is needed. I got there an hour before the race … very slow and not well organized.

Maybe 20 spectators on the whole course all were cheering for their friend/relative. In this huge city no one came out. Volunteers were nice and cheered. First race where 5 runners shoved, cut me off or ran into me mid race.

Weather was crap. 40 and rain. Parking was not enough and gridlock was ensued with people trying to leave. I walked from my hotel 1 mile away. I suggest doing the same. Many parking garages in the same area.

Medal is blah and they give you a poncho, no shirt.

This race is held with great fall color and temps (45-55F). The course is 35% gravel trail with shade and no traffic, the rest is paved on some residential roads and mostly 2 lanes where you run towards the shoulder with cones separating traffic. Good police and volunteer presence at most intersections. 400′ elevation gain.

Water stops were about every 2 miles, well maned and many locals and groups out to cheer near the beginning/end mostly. Marathon starts an hour before half and 16/K, good traffic flow and no crowing or bunching.

Race start needed more porta potties, but there was also a real bathroom at the host hotel too. Many places to stay within walking, and also plenty of parking on the street or the garage.

Shirt was ok, medal was nice. Spoke with several people on the running committee all nice and welcoming. 95% of the runners were locals to PEI or NS. I flew into Halifax and drove up 3 hours to Charlottetown was cheaper and faster than flying into PEI direct. Post race food was decent, many snacks to choose from. I did not find any water tho…. 4 blocks back to the place i stayed Slaymaker and Nichols….for the best breakfast and coffee!

Race takes place 3 hours south of Halifax and an hour east of Yarmouth. 90%+ of runners are from Nova Scotia. I flew into Halifax and stayed at a lovely B&B in Sherburne about 30 minutes from the start line. Parking is ample as most people drop off runners. THE END IS 2 MILES FROM THE START. This was the worst part of the race, beyond starting late 8am for half, 7am for full. There was a ‘shuttle’ back to the start, but this was poorly thought out and executed. 1 van that fits 14 for hundreds of runners??

Course is on open paved road so cars going in both directions with no shoulder, most drivers were courteous many were not. Police drove by above a higher than ideal rate of speed and even a Town truck came within 1 foot of me. So locals were not all happy to see the runners. Course is flat to rolling hills, miles 10-12 seemed to be all up hill, but gradual. A few potties on the course and able ones at the start. Decent crown on the road and staying left for the whole time was a bit challenging on the left knee, but not bad.

Medal is amazing, shirt is one to mow the lawn in, no other swag minus a $0.15 string bag. Bib was also quite good looking too!

Water stops were great, volunteers also. I assumed there would be more water views running around an island, but almost none, jut the beginning and across the bridge. Mostly forested country roads. A few dozen spectators came to cheer from their front lawns.

Race is in town, easy walk from all hotels or easy parking at train station if you are not in town. Races were staggered well so the Full, Half and 10K don’t conflict. There were a decent amount of Porta Potties and a real public bathroom at start (nothing on course) but LOTS of woods. Course has no cars, either closed off road or paved path in/along the woods, rolling hills the whole way. Water stops were good and well volunteered. Almost no spectators, so cheering only at beginning and end. Shirt was fine, medal ok. The food at the end was bottom of the barrel, the bananas were hard, the granola bar was nasty and so was the electrolyte juice. About a 5 minute walk from great restaurants tho… just go out to eat. I was assuming Banff would be packed this time of the year and the Parks as well… they were not. DO THIS RACE.

It was 35F and light rain the whole time. This was 15 degrees below “normal” but “Will, it be cold, hot, rainy in Banff today? Yes!”

There were bears on the course and some stoppages due to them (for the Marathon this year).

PARKING WAS A NIGHTMARE. TOOK ME AND HOUR TO GO THE LAST HALF MILE. I gave myself 90 minutes to go the 2 miles from the hotel and needed all of it. Only one way in. Once you get in. Tons of parking. Getting out was the same.

This is a small (35~people) mostly local race with most people coming over from St Thomas on the morning ferry. The race is 70% single track, 25% roads (paved and dirt) and 5% rocky beach run. The trails were in decent shape, but above average rocks and roots on most of it. There were 3 major hills as you chriscross the island. It was 80F+ and 80% humidity the entire time, but most of the race is shaded due to forest cover. You must carry your own water bottle and there are only 3 water stops. I needed more water then refilling my 22oz bottle those 3 times and began to over heat mid race. First race I have sat down durning and said WTF, about the top of the last hill mile 12. Race was 14 on my watch. Volunteers were great on the trail. They did have medical support at each road crossing 3-4x.

Small ok medal and a water bottle for swag. Awards for top male and female were nice custom made items.

You have to find your own way back to Cruz bay, I was able to get a ride from a local. There is not much communication. The bathrooms at the start were not unlocked until 3 minutes before the race and parking at the start is very limited.

You can stay within walking distance. Parking was ok. But many waited too late to go. There was also an issue with a draw bridge so they delayed the race 10 minutes. There were enough porta potties due to the staggered starts. Packet pickup was ok, parking was $4 at the hotel and the ‘expo’ was small.

Course is super flat and closed course making it easy. Volunteers and aid stations were smooth. Metal was nice, shirt ok and post race food adequate. Highly recommend.

I only rated this race 3 outta 5 as its really a supported hike with 1000+ friends.
You are not able to race for most of the course as its 80% single track and it seemed most folks were not trail runners. (running in the middle and not getting over, half had on road shoes!)

Production this race was spot on. Volunteers were super helpful, you can park right at the start/end (for a fee). I got there 1 hour before start and had no issues parking. There were 17 waves starting ever minute to stage people . First mile or so is paved, then you hit pea gravel as you get on the trail. Most people started walking here. The next few miles is dirt with roots and small rocks. The higher you get the more rocky it gets, but decent footing until the end. There was 2″ of fresh snow/slush from the night before the last 2 miles.

This is a mind bender as you get more tired you get less oxygen. My back hurt the most as you are constantly leaning forward due to the incline… train your back as much as your legs 🙂

Busses were readily available to take people back down, you take a small bus to a school bus. Takes over an hour to get back to the start. Food at the finish was same as the aid stations, grapes/oranges/pretzels/chips/bananas.

Food at the finish was mediocre. Fairly terrible cold pizza plus the same stuff as before. Free beer was good! You get your shirt after the race.

Loved the low key friendly race atmosphere. 220 people, No fanfare. You get a beautiful medal made by the camp goers and your fee goes to support the camp. Race scenery was ok. A few glimpses of the water, mostly a wooded paved road with the half way point at a lovely lighthouse.
They did a great job managing the parking. Bathrooms at the start were a decent quantity, some real, some porta potties. 2 official bathroom stops along the route. Plenty of woods for unofficial. Water stops were about every 2 miles. (Just water nothing else). Volunteeres were great at every intersection to direct you the right way with lobster bouys as mile markers.
Brunch after was great. Full cooked breakfast (eggs, bacon, sausage, potatoes, waffles and blueberry muffins.).
I stayed at the East Wind Inn… lovely place to stay 2 miles away and a delicious restaurant.

I enjoyed the mostly local, closed course with decent scenery. You run 8 miles on the Coastal Trail along the sound and the beginning and end along neighborhood streets with good police presence the middle is on a road the parallels the airport. Many rolling hills, water stops were great. Loved they had Skratch.

Medal was decent. Shirt was good and the food after top 3 for me. The cider in the garden was a nice add on with a pint glass included.

I stayed in Anchorage. Hotels are very expensive but many are walking distance to the start <1 mile. The later start 9am. Made it a little challenging to finish and get back to the hotel for noon checkout. There was a decent amount of parking near the start as well. Could of used a few more porta potties at the start. Did not see any along the race course!

Up the hill, down the hill, round the hill.. was shouted at me from the crowd as I ran past mile 3. (course is constand small hills) One minute later a woman announces, “you are almost there”, and her presumed husband said, no he is not… and we all laughed! I have never been to a more friendly, supportive, picturesque race. Literally there was 12.5 miles of people lining both sides of the roads. Only spot were there were no people were on the causeways that had no spots to stand. So 500 runners and thousands of spectators. 90-95% of the runners are from Bermuda and the race is run on “Bermuda Day” an island holiday where most people are off and gather to watch the race and parade and spend the day eating and drinking with friends and family. Almost constant shouts of encouragement from the crowd, I was amazed!

The race course is completely closed down, no cars, and water stops almost every mile. Real bathrooms at the start, not many potties along the route and no good options in the trees. There was no nutrition beyond orange slices, so bring your own. The race is almost completely designed to be a Bermuda resident race making the logistics a little challenging. Packet pick up is only on Wednesday, they offered to drop it off at my hotel tho (would not mail) and they dropped mine off with all the swag (shirt, socks, hat, totebag, snack-all good quality). However they did not drop off my daughters, and my emails were not responded too, one phone number on the website did not work, finally got a race person and they did deliver her number (but none of the swag). Long story short SHOW UP FOR PACKET PICKUP on wednesday. Next issue was getting to the start and getting back after. Getting there is not so hard, just taxi from your hotel early (no rental cars on the island) and point to point race. When the race ends you are at a park streets are closed and you have to walk to where the streets are not blocked off… and then you can use the Bermuda taxi app (kinda like Uber) to call a taxi. We lucked out and the guy we asked where should we walk to find a taxi, said not worry I will drive you. (20 minutes one way for free a $40 taxi) These people are ALL the nicest I have ever met.

Much better course than Hawaii and so much closer!

The entire experience was an adventure. The race was the most difficult I have done primarily due to the elevation gain and the trail/road surface. The logistics of getting there and back was immensely frustrating and challenging, nothing goes according to plan or schedule. MAKE SURE YOU WANT THIS TYPE CONSTANT ADJUSTMENT AND THINGS NOT GOING ACCORDING TO PLAN. It was loose rocks and dust making downhill challenging to keep from slipping and keep pace. 5000′ feet elevation gain, 27 miles. You run out and back from Urique 3 times in different directions. Water stops were perfect, more than needed, I drank 3x what I normally do. Temp in the morning was 40, high for the day 70, the sun was strong and no shade for the last 10~ miles. At each turnaround you get a wrist band to prove you made it. The volunteers were great, everything is in Spanish, know how to say the distance of your race. 90% of the people running appeared to be Tarahumara, another 5% from Mexico, and very few foreigners, only a handful from the US. There were NO porta potties anywhere…. so challenging at the start of the race and everyone just went to the side of the trail, no real ‘woods’ to hide in. Mama Tita’s was my favorite restaurant.. I highly recommend. Packet pick up was supposed to be from 2-5pm but started early and foreigners had their own special line, but this was not shared. If you don’t speak Spanish, go with someone, or find someone there to befriend, or it will be immensely more difficult. The shirt was decent, very unique and colorful, the medal was the same for all races and nondescript.

Plenty of hotels within 5-10 miles. Just book early as they will sell out due to runner demand. The expo was fairly big packet pick up was smooth. The parking lot is huge no issues parking but you may walk a mile just to get there! Note there is no pick up race day. There is also a 5k in the evening Friday sharing the parking lot, get there early or Thursday to avoid this minor crowd.

There are busses from there to race venue, from 3-5am…. Not sure why you would take the bus. Plenty of parking at the race location. Plenty!!! They use 3 entrances to get on base so things flowed. Remember where you park as it is dark. (Race starts at sunrise) and it’s over a mile to where it starts.

Lots of potties, food trucks (coffee), and unique things. Fireworks, paratroopers, and a great national anthem (even a jumbo screen so you can see from anywhere.

Race went off in 3 waves depending on pace. They also had pacers. Half and full start together. The 10k started 30 minutes before. You head up hill right away and run all around the base, not seeing the same thing twice. Many small hills all pavement through the woods, past buildings, golf course, and hangars. Not one vehicle on the road. Runners had free/safe passage the entire way. Water stops were great. Porta potties along the course were spartan… but there were portapotrees!

Shirt, medal, patch were all nice. Food at the end was plentiful with many options.

My dad is 75 and was in the Air Force. This was the 75th anniversary of the air force and he wanted to run the half… so we did it together!

There was ample free parking, nice volunteers, enough potties, water at the start, aid stands were well stocked and manned.

There were maybe 1-2 miles where you could see the ocean the rest was main roads or neighborhood roads. My main complaint was there was no delineation from runners and traffic. Traffic was able to drive both lanes for 90% of the race and there was a single track shoulder. Most cars did not slow down or yield and seemed to be pissed we were in their way. The police did have most intersections well managed.

Medal was nice shirt was seafoam green (not a good color). No food after the race. Very few spectators and most just stood there and watched. About 600 half marathon participants. There was also a 5K that started 10 minutes after the half with no issues.

Race is hard, but not bad. 1500′ elevation gain. Course is on gravel and rock road. Wear trail shoes, with rock plate to ease you comfort, and deeper tread. Water stops were great, food after was also. Shirt was nice, and optional. There is no medal. You can grab a tiny frog stuffed animal at check in with the race name on it.

There is a 5K that starts after the half so there is no mixing of people. Both races are related to the trail running camp that has been going on there the week before. So there are many runners that did the camp that are doing the race. Less than 100 people total for both races together and I may of been the only one from out of state. I met some nice people and enjoyed the challenge.

Not many bugs, only killed 2 deer flies. Course was mostly shaded and no spectators, except for the other runners families and the volunteers. No porta potties along the course, but lots of trees and only 1-2 cars on the road the whole time.

Great excuse to go to Glacier National Park… race was extremely well designed and explained with copious pages of detailed instructions. Note 20% of runners were their first half marathon… wow. This is not an easy race!

You race next to the park with nice views of woods, mountains and water. First 5 miles up, next 5 down, then 1 mile flat, 1 mile back up, and the last mile is on grass, golf cart path and gravel. Race ends at the East Glacier Lodge (where I stayed) pricey but cool to walk to my room and easy to have family there at the end. Good water stops, you have to carry your own container. Finish food was good, shirt and medal too!
Ok my complaints. The race starts early at 6am, but you have to take a shuttle ~15 miles to the start between 4am and 5am so you have to get up at 3ish to make it all work. Then after the shuttle drops you off you have to stand in the shoulder of the road for 60-90 minutes. Too much waiting….and by the way it was 37 degrees. Not to mention not enough potties for 1500 people….. but not horrible.

The road had a decent amount of camber adn crown, but you alternated sides of the road and also had 1 or 2 lanes blocked off just for runners most of the time so you could find a level spot. Production was best I seen, safe course and everything you needed just to enjoy the run. There was plenty of parking, with no issues even if you did not get there early. The regular lot was about a half mile away from the start, and VIP parking ($20) was right at the start/finish. Pre-race information and website had all the details, packet pickup the day before was easy, and many picked up packets the morning of the race.
Porta-potties and water stops were plentiful, they even added some additional due to the higher than normal temperatures. With a very welcome icy towel at the end. You can also take a dip in the stream!
Medal was nice and shirt was too. Good design, color and fabric.
I came from out of town and stayed the night before in Manchester, about a 30 minute drive to New Boston.

Race is out and back on a closed road mostly along the river. Course is wide and straight so there is plenty of room to pass/be passed. Water stops were spot on and volunteers were nice and competent. A few rolling hills 500 elevation gain.

Race is fairly small a few hundred people for the half and 10k combined which start at the same time. Course was easily followed.. A local race with most from Minneapolis area. Parking was a bit of a challenge with spots filling up fast, get there early or take the free mass transit.

Race website and emails had everything you needed to know. Shirt and medal were ok. Nothing special.

So many hotels within walking distance and an easy metro from the airport so so many things to do in the city.

Race starts a little late in the morning, 8:30, course is flat with one medium sized hill. The police had EVERYTHING locked down and the course was super safe and easy to follow. Volunteers and water stops were perfect. Enough porta potties and the 5k race starts in a different spot, so the runners stay separate.
Decent amount of people came out to cheer the runners on and there were several bands throughout the course. Shirt and medal were nice!

There are not a lot of options for races in Hawaii and this one was ok. You run on the side of the road the whole time with traffic going by at 40-60MPH for 2/3’s of the race and the ocean in view most of the time. The other 1/3 of the race is on a frontage road that has one lane blocked so traffic on one side. You run past many folks fishing, and there was many piles of feces in the road along with a few dead things you could smell off in the woods. Course had cones to separate the traffic from the shoulder with runners going both ways in a 2-6’ shoulder for most of it. This year there was no police or medical presence.

The water stops were not set up well. First one at mile 1. Second at mile 5, and they had NO WATER at mile 5. The turn around was well marked and manned. They ran out of safety pins at packet pickup and they also ran out of the shirt size I was supposed to get. Metal was nice shirt too. Race start was at a good time so you could watch the sun rise.

Don’t take the bus, just drive there is plenty of parking and btw there is no bus back (you have to take the public bus).

Stay in St Michaels lots of places within walking distance of the start line and many great restaurants and shops. If you drive to the finish to catch the bus, get there before 645 there is not a lot enough parking.

There are real bathrooms at the start and finish. And the inn at the start let us sit inside until the race began. Which was great as it was 38 degrees. The course is 12+ miles running in the left shoulder of a 2 lane road with 50 MPH traffic. Lots of farms and trees to watch as you run with only a couple glimpses of the water. Aid stations were well manned and ample. My left pinky toe was not pleased after running on the left angled crown of the road, all in all an easy course. Almost no spectators and no police presence except the beginning and end.

Sweatshirt was nice. Medal was mediocre. Race instruction and communication was great before and during. The post race “snack” was my favorite so far. Simple stuff that was all natural. 250 runners all doing a half.

Walking distance from a few hotels, course was flat, mix of neighborhoods and ocean. Weather in March was perfect 40’s sunny. Many nice shops, restaurants, and historic places to visit.

Race takes place on 2 to 6 lane roads with 1500′ feet down and 500′ up. The course is mostly in a lane separated from other traffic by cones. There were friendly police and most of the main intersections, but towards the end there were a lot of cars crossing in front of runners and going in the lane where only runners were supposed to be. Weather was great and water stops were well manned and plentiful. Almost no spectators.
I stayed at the host hotel and took the bus to the start from there. Do not do this, as there is no bus back from the finish. I had to Uber, which was no big deal, just not convenient. They say you cannot drop off runner for the half but you can, there are no issues. The start to the race was anticlimactic, with no music, anthem, or start banner.. just 3-2-1 go.
The shirt and medal were nice, and the volunteers were all very friendly and helpful.

When I rate race I think about what could of been better and I found several things that made the race less enjoyable. Parking was adequate for maybe 30% of participants. Porta potties for 10-20%. Over 100 people in line at race start. You could only get your shirt and packet race day. The course was out and back on mostly 2 lane road with traffic going in both directions as well and you are running in the road with cars trying to pass you. Shirt is an ugly color. The metal is plain and the water stops we’re plentiful but they put like only 1 oz of water in the cup, so I needed 2-3. They started the race (half) at 9:15 way too late for August…. Was already “hot” before we began. There was no anthem or music before the race just kinda line up and go (no corrals either). With a race this big people should be separated by pace

Positives. Many ocean breezes and 1/3 of the route was shaded. Many rolling hills on the course and a small section of gravel road along the beach, the rest paved. A good amount of people cheering and sitting in their front yards. Several places to stay In walking distance and lots of coastal MA things nearby.

Well run, small, nature filled race with easy logistics and great course.

Many hotels to choose from and the bus hits almost all. If you stay at the Holiday Inn you can walk to the ferry 0.5 Mile. “Ferry” takes 30 people at a time and they were on point. Busses were also. Most of the races is on packed gravel road, last 3 miles is a true double track trail. Everything was graded, a few puddles but easy running comparatively. (EXECPT FOR THE MILE YOU RUN ON THE BEACH) Aid stations were good, staffed with competent nice people. Nice shirt, nice medal. Loved doing this race!

The race starts about a quarter mile from the hotel. There are real bathroom by the start. The people that work here are so nice and accommodating. You run through the golf course mainly and it’s a splendid view the entire time with perfect temps. A few ups and downs but no real hills.

Shirt, metal, glass are all nice. But the after party was the best I have been too. Mimosas. And wonderful brunch served inside at tables (or you can sit out too).

My only complaint was that I never got any emails from the organizers with updates…, but the website was very detailed and had everything.

This race had all the things I like: Cool temps, not many hills, INDOOR waiting area and INDOOR bathrooms, well run, well marked, great scenery, just enough spectators and no issues with parking or hotels.

I stayed at Palmer Gulch they have a nice lodge/hotel and cabins. There is a bus that picks you up and returns you. If I did it again, I would drive to Hill City (Where the race ends) and park and take the bus from there to Crazy Horse (the start). This avoids one bus ride and when the race is over you can leave when you want; only issue I had was the busses were supposed to begin leaving at 10am and at 10:40 only 10 people were ready to go. Luckily the bus driver was willing to leave with few people so I didn’t miss mu flight home.
I went to Crazy Horse the day before to check things out, you do not need to do this as you have about an hour there before the race and you get to run up to the base of the monument.
Recommendations on clothing…. It was 27 degrees when I left my room, about 35 when the race started and 50 after 2 hours. Since you can wait inside up until about 5 minutes before the race, dress for the warmer temps. The last 10 miles are mostly shaded and cooler, but there are spots where the sun peaks out to warm you. Most of the run is hard packed gravel.

Eat at the Powder House!

Flat, simple, easy, nice race. I read the reviews and was worried this race would suck. There was one big issue I take at least half the blame for… I ran past the half point turn around. The sign was small and the guy that was supposed to tell you to turn around was standing infront of it. So I got a few extra miles for free. I asked the cops and the people at the next water station and none knew where the turnaround was. I went from 4th to ?

The race was rolling hills mostly on single track clay with 3 small stream/mud crossings, first and last mile are paved roads/trails. The web site for the race has almost all you need to know. I only got one email from the race director 3 days before the race. The race went off smooth and i had no issues. Shirt and metal were nice.

Race begins a little late 8am, sun is up at 5:30am and you have to wait for over an hour at the start line after they drop you off; which is at a campground, with a good amount of pit toilets, a pavilion, and a drinking water spigot.

Bring your own hydration pack or bottle, water stations were at mile 5 and 10 and there are no human spectators to cheer you on, cows and horses tho! Pay attention and ask questions on how to open the numerous cattle gates you must pass through.. I assumed i knew…took about 30 seconds at the first one. Race is also a little longer than a half marathon (14M).

I stayed in Medora, and walked to the shuttle (less than a mile). I highly recommend staying there, great history, places to stay and restaurant choices, not to mention the entrance to Roosevelt National Park!

Since they did not have the actual race due to Corona fears, my opinions will be of what my virtual race entailed.

Communication before the race was good. Packet pickup was easy and the fleet feet people were real nice. They gave out the swag (minus bibs) incase you want to come back and run the race at the rescheduled time. I did not so i ran most of the course on my own and put my results in as a virtual race.
Swag included a decent themed medal, long sleeve 1/4 zip and a pint glass.
I also added in the “kiss me i’m a runner” green t-shirt as you know it was St Patrick’s Day. Many hotels near the start/finish line and the city is easy to navigate especially on a weekend.

The course is very flat and mostly along the river on ‘bike trails”. It was cold (28-35) and a little windy (15MPH), but the river and city scenery was pleasant. Had a great meal at a local restaurant and met many nice people from there and also those who showed up to run.

Race starts about half mile inside a cave.

You get to wait for the race to begin in the visitor center, it’s heated with public restrooms. You can park in the lot right out front; so a very easy race start.

The weather was perfect. Mid 40’s with frost in the valleys. Race starts right at sunrise so wonderful view. The race is a mixture of paved road 10%, gravel or grass road 50%, grassy field 20%, and the rest is rocky/loose/ankle twisting fun at every step. There are some minor hills and one steep section that is a few hundred yards. Wear your trail shoes! Course was almost perfectly marked, except mile 11-12 were there was a long gap between arrows/flagging. Water stops were on point and staff was friendly at every turn. There are no spectators (closed course) but runners were cheering each other on!

Finisher metal was a cool geode, shirt was just a regular T-Shirt, they gave you some cotton gloves, and a ticket to come back to the cave for a year. I liked this races as it was a little hard, a little different, and a lot of nice scenery and people.

The course was decent and well marked. You see a little of the town and some of the university. (Mississippi State). Small race so you can park close to the start on the street and I was able to keep warm in a coffee shop before the race began. I walked from my hotel about a mile away.
The traffic was a bit of an issue as there were many cars on the course and people running in both lanes. The police did a good job at major intersections. They used styrofoam cups and had no trash can at water stops so that was odd. Race director asked me how it went after the race no provided feedback and he said he would address the issues for next year.

The race was well laid out and police presence was strong, with the course separated from traffic the whole time with cones, and mostly well signed. I had a big issue with the water stops and enough porta potties (timing with the 5k did not help. 5k started 15 minutes after the half and i waited for 20 minutes and did not get to go). There was an issue as there was no water (no volunteers) from mile 2 to mile 10. And also no porta potties “at the water stops” as was mentioned either. South Tahoe was an easy place to get to, fly into Reno and drive 60+ minutes. Many hotels within walking distance and great shopping and scenery. Race was a little odd that it starts at 10:30am, but since it was 26F at sunrise and ~50F for the start it was appreciated as you have to wait more than an hour after the bus drops you off to start; you run back to town. Course is blocked roads, paved woods trails, and sidewalk once you get back to town (you have to watch for cars along the sidewalk) and almost all down hill or flat. The elevation and smoke made it more challenging. Plenty of water stops and friendly volunteers.

My complaints include no food (cups of water and oreos was all that was left) left when i finished… and i was near the front of the half, but there were many other races finishing (5k, 10k, kids race, marathon) before I got there. At the start, there were only 6 porta potties and 2 pit toilets and this was probably half what was needed as the wait was 30-40 minutes.

Fairly big race, but did not seem like it. Hotels were walking distance from the start, lots of police to manage traffic, and aid stations and porta-potties were ample. The race course was fun with a great mix of scenery, this year it was windy. Breeze off the river was cold (it was 33 degrees and misting too).

The race starts early which is great since its hot and humid, even in October….but its dark and the course is not well lit or even lit at all in some places (on the pier) Bring a headlight!! So because you start 2 hours before sunrise, you dont see any scenery for at least the first half of the race…. Course was well laid out, and plenty of police for traffic. The smell was quite horrible as the seaweed was rotting along most of the shore, but the elevation gain of 20ft almost made up for it! Fun race, would do it again!

Race was great and everything was well organized. Loved the course and scenery. I did not love having to get on the bus 2 hours before the race to get there… and it was cold so i huddled by the exhaust from the portable lights…. but there were plenty of potties and everyone was friendly…. i even left my medal on the bus the they sent me a new one for free! It is so stupid big i took it off and then forgot it…. I don’t ever take them off now 🙂 until i get to the hotel.

This ‘race’ kicks your butt. But you will like getting kicked! So many nice people and amazing views. Course is simple… but the altitude will get you 🙂 I trained for the hills so my legs were good… mostly… but about 12,500′ the best i could manage was an ungraceful walk. At the top got water and a quick pic and back to where the oxygen was!! Going down was great, felt better with every step… until the course goes up again. Heart rate was zone 5 the whole race and 100+ the rest of the day even just sitting having a drink. Acclimate to the altitude for as long as you can before the race. I did not stay in town, I wish I had, cool town!

I liked the race but the course was fairly urban/industrial. Aid stations and amenities were spot on and traffic management superb. You run to and from the arch, through some ghetto’s and wealthy neighborhoods, so you get to see St. Louis, which was why i went. I did not stay downtown near the start as i signed up too late, I was dropped off, which worked great as parking and traffic were quite hectic. It was 35 degrees full moon and a race to remember.

Bring layers… was cold waiting for 2 hours for the race to start, with no real waiting area… we all hung out in the foyer to the wine place and the coffee place, that were not open. After the start there are more hills than expected and both paved and gravel roads.

I have run the half and the full at Herb Parsons. It was an out and back course with several options to pass on the mostly single track trail. There is no shirt and the medal is not special, but the people are nice and the course is nice, and parking is easy. Temps vary from 11-50 degrees depending on the year…beware 🙂

Easy parking at the start and a small race. This was my first marathon and it was almost perfect…. what was not perfect you ask? Only thing was the trail i had never been on and it twisted and split several times and because there were not that many people… I did not know which way to go 2 or 3 times and stopped to wait for the guy/girl behind me to ask which way? Other than that, nice scenery, a little hilly, no cars to deal with and very low key.
