The Frostbite Race presented by Chick-Fil-A Starkville, which was started over 39 years ago, is a chilly annual event that draws runners from Starkville and surrounding areas. Just like last year, this year’s Frostbite will begin and end on Main Street and incorporate the Cotton District, Mississippi State University campus and Starkville’s Historic District into the course. The traditional winter half-marathon will also include a 10K and 5K races to include more intermediate and novice runners and families. Chip timing, custom medals, and high quality swag will also help the Frostbite appeal to more runners and improve community involvement!

The course had a fast, downhill start. Realizing that this was an out back course, I was dreading the return leg almost immediately. I didn’t expect the course to be as rolling as it was. I wouldn’t call the course grueling but it was a little tougher than I expected.
The scenery was nice running through the Mississippi State campus and past the Football stadium. Once the course left campus the remainder of the run to the turnaround point consisted of rolling farm/pastureland. There was very little traffic, the weather was in the low 40’s and it was easy to relax, settle in, and enjoy the run.
The run back to the finish line did include a gradual uphill climb until the last 1/4 or so which provided a level home stretch.
The staff was very kind and the effort to put on a live event during the pandemic was greatly appreciated! The medal was nice but not overly unique. I really like the design of the long sleeve tech shirt and the fairly large waterproof bag was an awesome, unexpected surprise.

The course was decent and well marked. You see a little of the town and some of the university. (Mississippi State). Small race so you can park close to the start on the street and I was able to keep warm in a coffee shop before the race began. I walked from my hotel about a mile away.
The traffic was a bit of an issue as there were many cars on the course and people running in both lanes. The police did a good job at major intersections. They used styrofoam cups and had no trash can at water stops so that was odd. Race director asked me how it went after the race no provided feedback and he said he would address the issues for next year.
Shirt and medal were nice. They gave out a gear bag, cup and head band also.
Great Race, needs work!
The race it self was a great challenge however the water stations needed more water. Swag was awesome as well even better then some of the bigger races. MORE
