Nice, smaller (my preference) local race. Working on my 50 states, and I’m trying to stay away from the huge crowds which for me aren’t as enjoyable. Packet pickup was quick and easy, race day staging adequate. Course wasn’t overly challenging as far as hills, but did have some “ups and downs” for a good bit of the first half. Course itself runs mostly through neighborhoods and the residents couldn’t have been more supportive of the runners (several even set up their own aid stations for the runners.) If you like smaller races, I’d definitely recommend this one!

I am picking races to get me to my goal of finishing at least one marathon (or longer) in each of the 50 states. I needed Louisiana and chose the Logjammer.
Entry fee was reasonable, it was about a 3.5 hour drive away, course looked not overly difficult, and I have never been to Shreveport before (NOLA a hand full of times and other parts of LA but not Shreveport).
Check-in was easy at the Sportspectrum athletic store. The race t-shirt (hoodie) was very nice. Find a nice inexpensive hotel close by. Carbo-loaded at a nice Italian cafe in the middle of an office building nearby as well.
Race morning was cool/cold (50 degrees F) and during the race never left the 50’s. Start of the race was through the shopping center and then into nearby neighborhoods. First half or so had a fair amount of rolling hills. No major climbs, but definitely rollers. The 1/2 marathon started with the full marathoners (they split off around mile 11).
I was running fairly well – but legs were a little tired (I had just finished the Fort Worth Marathon two weeks earlier). I kind of was hoping for a sub-4:00 hour finish and through about 18 miles felt that it was possible. The rollers decreased at around mile 14-ish and for the most part it was basically flat with some incline and decline grades. Streets were very well manned by local police. Race had official aid stations and many residents set up unofficial water/fuel stops in front of their houses.
I got to mile 20 and then hit the proverbial wall. Ended up walk/jogging to a finish time of 4:21:44. Good enough for 1st in my age group (us dinosaurs don’t run that fast).
Overall, I really liked this race. The course has the potential for some solid and fast times. Weather, while cold, was good running weather. Traffic was never a problem. Spectators weren’t packed but the city residents did cheer runners on.
Goodies were the cool hoodie t-shirt, a pair of nice socks, and a nice hat (tight enough to almost be a do-rag). Finish medal was large and very nice with the race “mascot” beaver. For my AG award, I received a nice blanket with the same mascot.
I recommend this race.

In summary, this was a great local race. The producers did a very good job of setting up for the event, coordinating it, and executing on it. You have to go into it expecting a small local race. This is not a marquee race in a major city, but it was well put on an exceeded my expectations.
Packet pickup was simple and easy. Got a free pair of performance socks as well! Race day pre-race was well organized.
The race course was very nice. Flat for the first 3 miles, then we got into hills as we ran through beautiful neighborhoods. The hills kept coming for the middle half of the race, then as the course turned back towards the finish it flattened out again for an easy roll to the finish.
Post-race was very good as well. Lots of post-race nutrition and extras! Along with the finishers medal we received another finishers shirt as well.
Overall I would recommend this race if you are looking for a small local race in the Shreveport area!
Its a race in Shreveport in the winter.

Race production was a little hap hazard and the course was so so. But there are real bathrooms at the start and they are heated 🙂 I liked the race, its a fast flat course. Only race I have ever been to where there was NO spectators.. AT ALL.
