I’ve done each distance of this race and I like them all! I did the half today for the first time and it’s a great course. Challenging enough, good shade on the course, and small enough to not have the path crowded. You do have to watch out for bikes, but that’s about it.

This is the 4th straight year I’ve run this race and I will most likely be back for a 5th! It’s small and well organized and I make new friends every year. The volunteers are kind and helpful, race crew seem calm and happy under what I’m sure is organized chaos. The course is simple but perfect (you can’t get lost, it’s clean/clear/safe, and plenty wide to pass). Everything about the swag is perfect! So creative and honestly it’s nice to have something other than another race shirt to add to the pile. They’ve had high quality awards each year I’ve done it which is greatly appreciated as someone who comes to compete. But even if you’re a walker or not interested in your finish time, I would highly recommend getting a group of friends together to do it for fun.

I have run this race 3 times, usually the longer distance but this year the 5k. The race itself is not bad, super flat, wide path, and it’s for a great cause. As someone who races A LOT, there are a few things that will break a race experience for me: 1) not starting on time, 2) taking forever to get to awards, 3) not having awards. Unfortunately this race hits all 3. This year was the worst, I think we started 20 minutes late, waited well over 90 minutes after the race for awards to start, and absolutely no awards for top overall finishers. Of the 3 years I’ve done the race they have only had overall awards once. I was hoping the first year was a fluke but now being 2 out of 3 I doubt I’ll be back.

After registering for this race in 2020 it was postponed until this year. I give them credit for pushing our registrations when they could’ve just kept the money, especially when it benefits a cause. However…the day was disappointing. There were no clear instructions on where the race was which left a long line of cars driving all over the park trying to figure out where to go. Then when you find it there was inadequate parking in the lot, leaving people crossing a busy street on foot to get there. Race course was okay, production okay, a few vendors. Biggest disappointment was the website advertised awards for top 3 M/F each distance. Stuck around for a long time for awards, finally asked, and no, no awards. Really?? Don’t advertise something you won’t deliver. Won’t be back.

This is the 3rd time I’ve done the 10k and I will be back again next year. They changed the 10k to be at sunset this year which was nice to avoid the heat. This also changed the direction of the start which was so so nice (avoids a steep uphill start). This race has such a nice small, local feel and everyone on the crew and volunteers are super friendly. It is a very family friendly race which is great in all ways except it can be hard to pass walkers/kids on the second loop of the 10k but it’s doable if you’re careful. Word of caution…if you plan on running fast please bring a light! I had one and was so glad; it would’ve been scary with footing because it is very very dark on the second loop. All in all I would highly recommend!

You really can’t beat this race. Year after year it is so well run, just the right size, and is fun no matter your pace. The course is beautiful and big enough to never get crowded. The expo (pre and post race) has tons of freebies and you can enjoy your post race beer with a view of the ocean. I don’t think it gets much better than that!

This was during Covid times, obviously, and I have to say they made every effort to make it feel like a normal race while keeping everyone safe. It was so much fun to be out there racing and the way the course is set up you see people many times (a lot of out and back that doesn’t feel like out and back), so if you have friends running it’s awesome to feel like you’re doing it together even if you’re at different paces and it’s fun to watch the lead runners when you’re not up there with them! Shirts were top quality, medals well designed. Waiting for the age group award in the mail!

I’d always heard good things about CIM and figured I’d give it a try. The expo was small which wasn’t their fault, the normal venue wasn’t available. Race morning was smooth; long lines at the bus but it moved quickly. I thought getting the bus at 5 for a 7:00 start sounded early but it was NOT. I barely had enough time to go to the bathroom, gear check, and get to the start. The starting line corrals were slightly confusing even though I’d studied the diagram well in advance. The chaos of race morning made all of that knowledge fly out of my head. The course never got particularly crowded and there was a fair amount of support for it being mostly in the suburbs. The aid stations were not always set up on both sides of the street the way they were supposed to be but I had my own supplies anyway. The finish line was great, loved the jackets though a pocket would’ve been great to put all of the stuff in. Picking up from gear check was nuts. That definitely needs to be streamlined. I loved that there was a gluten free option in the beer garden; that never happens!!! And it was great to have it right next to the course so I could watch for my husband to finish while drinking my beer. All in all it was a great race; I highly recommend it.

The course was absolutely beautiful and the swag could not have been better. Even the age group awards were amazing. I know A LOT of people were disappointed with their experience but you have to cut them some slack; inaugural races are always going to be rough. It is my understanding that the back of the packers and full marathon runners enountered a lot of problems that I did not so I can’t speak to that. My experience was mostly positive. Parking and packet pickup was confusing without adequate signage or volunteers to direct people but once I found it the line at bib pickup was short and quick. Race started on time which I LOVE. All of the police and volunteers were kind and helpful. The finish area was pretty confusing, would’ve been helpful to have signs at the finish line directing people where everything was (food, medical, results, etc) so people weren’t wandering around. Awards weren’t ready for the half until about 10:40 (race started at 7:15) but I didn’t mind because I was with a lot of friends enjoying the festivities. My biggest issue was figuring out how on earth to find my car because the start and finish were different and I had no point of reference. Again, more signs would’ve been helpful. All that being said I’ll likely give it another go next year (if I can afford it).

Unfortunately I had something come up last minute and I wasn’t able to attend the race so I switched to the virtual run. It was easy with a quick response from the RD. Everything from packet pickup to parking, to picking up age group awards was efficient, easy, and well run. Ran the Double Down Challenge (5k + Half Marathon) and really enjoyed it, there was a perfect amount of time between the two. My only criticism is 1-2 of the aid stations used the wrong cups (reached for water and got Ultima or reached for Ultima and got water) but that is honestly all I could come up with! Awesome experience!

Overall I think the race was better organized this year. Parking was still a bit nuts, got there over an hour before the race and still had to park 2 miles from the start which was fine before but totally sucked after. The shirts weren’t quite as nice this year and way shorter but the medals were nice. The start corrals are small and it can be hard to get where you need to be but even that was better than last year. The course itself was great as always, water every mile which is good given the hills, not crowded after the first mile. Not a lot of crowd support at this race because it is so small but it’s peaceful and beautiful; can’t really complain!

I have run the half marathon before but decided to run the 5k this year. It’s a smaller race and a lot of families due to the aquarium leg which was pretty great. The course had a couple of hills which I was not expecting so that added a bit of a challenge but for a 5k there was decent crowd support. The biggest disappointment came after the race. The Aquarium of the Pacific (race sponsor) website states that there would be age division awards but there were not any = a lot of upset runners. Apparently they’ve done them every year but for whatever reason decided not to this year but didn’t tell anybody. I know not all races have them and that’s totally fine but don’t advertise them and then fail to deliver. Otherwise it was a fun day.

This is the second race I’ve done on this trail but it was my first go at a night race. The atmosphere was a lot of fun, loved the whole glow stick vibe. The shirt and medal were great (medal glows in the dark) and winner trophies were top notch. The only cons were with the way awards were handled. Awards were given 1.5 hours after the winners finished (it was nighttime, mind you) and it was cold and windy and I got sick. Even then they got the placements wrong and aren’t sure they can get them redistributed. Overall it has potential but needs some help with production.

Small, local race that operates as well as one would anticipate. Custom t-shirt, bag, water bottle, and finisher medal for a pretty low fee. Finisher and age group medals weren’t super fancy but I’ve gotten much worse at much more expensive races. All in all I thought it ran smoothly. If you expect a huge race with lots of fan fare sure, you’ll be disappointed. But smaller races like this are really refreshing and foster a greater sense of community. Few complaints.

Very well organized and smoothly run. Biggest complaint was with awards. I placed 3rd overall female and got the same medal as those who placed 3rd in their age group. I was told it was because we got a bag but the bag was just stuff being given away by the vendors that you could pick up at their booths. I’ve never been to a race that didn’t give trophies or plaques or prizes of good monetary value for top 3 overall. I would’ve gotten a better medal for being 4th overall because it would’ve been 1st place age group instead of the 3rd place medal I got. Very disappointing. Won’t be returning because of this which is a shame because it was otherwise a great race.

This is definitely a run you have to do either to win or as a way to donate to a good cause. The T-shirt is cheap and they didn’t have XS as advertised. Said there was a finishers medal but it was really a flimsy keychain. No age group awards as advertised which was a huge disappointment but good cash prizes for overall winners. Course is beautiful and it’s a super small race which is nice and you can see some of the Kings players as well.

Smaller race with bigger feel; expected a bit more with such a high entry fee. The shirts this year were super ugly (and HUGE)…not wearable, but that’s not why I race. Production was okay, volunteers were not very enthusiastic and were not prepared/paying attention at my last water station. Had to stop running to ask someone for water (really?!). Emailed the race director and never got a response which really disappointed me. Got 2nd F and the trophy was different; kind of hard to display but still really cute. All in all will probably give it another chance next year; hopefully they give their volunteers a better pre-race pep talk.

So much fun to run in my back yard. The crowd support makes this race what it is. So touching to see so many individuals and families out cheering on runners not just organizations. Great variety of foods people hand out; I snagged a bag of jelly beans near the end. Some people had freeze pops but they were at the other side of the road and I didn’t want to stop. Maybe the most smoothly run race I’ve ever done. I really appreciate the seeded corrals and that they were actually monitoring people’s qualification bibs; made for SUCH a smooth start. Will definitely do again!

You cannot beat the view throughout this course; it makes up for the long uphill miles. The swag was great, race was one of the more affordable, and the post-race party was wonderful. The expo was nothing special. The corralling at the start was the most terrible I’ve experienced, wayyyy too small (almost had a panic attack – very claustrophobic) and runners (and pacers) couldn’t get to the appropriate corrals which caused the start of the race to be too slow because fast Runner’s had to try to safely pass walkers and slower runners. Other than that it was a great race. Would definitely do again!

When I signed up for this race I did not know it was a trail run…definitely not advertised as such. The course is beautiful but you can’t really enjoy it because you’re spending the whole race looking at the ground trying to find a level place to put your feet. The race was very well run, lots of great swag, fantastic cause. I would not do it again as I felt that the course was very dangerous; not sure how no one broke an ankle.

The first half of the course is on an incline, make sure you’re training hills. Dress for warm weather, it may be cool at the start but the sun will get you by the finish. This race is very well organized from bib pickup to parking to the course itself to the finish line festival. It is a tiny bit crowded but most races are. Don’t get your hopes up on Ocean views, you’re not in an area to see it the majority of the race. All things considered I have done it more than once and would not hesitate to do it again!
