Awesome FUN race. They have funny course signs that crack you up. My one only complaint is that they need more bathrooms along the course. I was holding it in and FINALLY found a porta potty towards the end. Otherwise I love it and that medal!! No boring medal here.

I was thrilled to see so many families out running and really young kids (one 6 year old for sure) running the 5k. The course is mostly flat in a pretty area and you get ice cream at the end! This was my first go at a 5k. I think I would like to come back next year and try the 10k. Race starts early 6:30am (not 8:30am) to avoid the summer heat. Parking is limited so get dropped off if you can. We parked over by Peet’s coffee, about a 10 minute walk away, which enabled us to have both a warm up and cool down. Race is very well organized, easy to pick up shirts etc. Highly enjoyable race. If you’ve never done a 5k, this is a great one for starters!

The weather smiled on the Sugar Daddy Race this year. It was overcast, cool and crisp! Perfect weather for running!

Packet pick-up was at the Iron House Trailhead from 2 – 7 pm on Friday. For those unable to attend on Friday, they also offered free race morning packet pick-up on race morning.

In the pre-race e-mails, participants were given a clear map of where they could park. Participants were encouraged to carpool as prime parking was limited. Once the dirt lot just east of the race filled, participants were directed to park across the street. There was plenty of parking across the street, however it was a bit of a walk to the closest crosswalk to safely cross. Magic Mountain Pkwy allows for 3 lanes of traffic in each direction with a speed limit of 50 mph. Showing foresight, the race posted signs warning participants not to jay walk. My point is — if you arrive early enough, you can get the good parking and not have contend with crossing the street.

The course is on the bike paths through Santa Clarita. This means no road closures, but you must be aware of bicyclists also utilizing the path. It felt like there were fewer cyclists this year. The course is mostly flat with minimal gentle rolling hills. The individual miles were not marked. I can’t remember if it was like this previous years. Because of the extra wet winter, the scenery was extra green and thoroughly enjoyable.

The volunteers at the aid-stations are fabulous and their energy was infectious. At one aid-station (aka “poke stop”), a volunteer was dressed as Pikachu. The aid stations offered Nuun, water, and a surprisingly wide variety of snacks.

The medals are always cute. This year it featured the name of the race over purple and pink hearts (see my posted photo).

There were a variety of refreshments available upon crossing the finish line. The multi-colored rainbow bagels definitely stand out in my memory. The crowd favorite is always the Ben & Jerry’s ice cream though. There were a variety of vendors at the finish, including Stretchlab, which offered free 10 minute post-race stretches.

The race shirt was rather plain this year. It was black and featured the name of the race in silver writing.

I love that this race offers free race photos. What better way to get runners to advertise your event than to give them free photos to share on social media? I wish more races would start doing this. I also love that this race offers perks for legacy runners and runners who run the race consecutive years. This year the legacy gift was a cute tie pin. Great motivation to keep coming back. That and, you know, the ice cream.

The shirt is one of the best. It is sooooo comfy and the fit was perfect! The race staff was great. I had to change from half to 10k a few days before. Sent them an email and it was all taken care of in a flash!!! I was impressed. Packet pick up was seamless, easy to pick up for others.
Parking race day, arrive early is my advice. Overall A+

I’ve so happy with this company and the effort they put in for the races they promote . I love the medal and the course . The Volunteers were amazing and cheering the whole way through the race. I really like the early morning start time because you beat the heat . I also appreciated all the pictures that they take during the course because it adds an extra souvenir for you to have. I have done a lot of races over the years and this group has shown me an overall appreciation of the people participating . If your looking for a great medal and a great experience definitely check this one out .

The race was fun, they have a lot of funny signs and whatnot throughout the course. It gives you a good laugh to keep you going. The course provides a great chance to PR because it is mostly flat. It just starts a little too early in the morning, I get that it gets hot but, I’m personally not a morning person.

Smaller race with bigger feel; expected a bit more with such a high entry fee. The shirts this year were super ugly (and HUGE)…not wearable, but that’s not why I race. Production was okay, volunteers were not very enthusiastic and were not prepared/paying attention at my last water station. Had to stop running to ask someone for water (really?!). Emailed the race director and never got a response which really disappointed me. Got 2nd F and the trophy was different; kind of hard to display but still really cute. All in all will probably give it another chance next year; hopefully they give their volunteers a better pre-race pep talk.

I enjoyed this race, I thought it was expensive for it being on a bike path and not closed off streets, even though the money supports non profit organizations it should be much cheaper, the Fontana half marathon was half the price. I did love that they had a lot of pictures on the course and enough hydration stations. It was local for me so that was great, they should tap into local running clubs, Bootcamp gyms, Chiro, massage businesses to fill up the expo area as it was pretty small! I thought the shirt design wasn’t the best, but the medal was great! They should allow you to pick up your shirt at the end of the race as everyone had to pick up the bib and walk back to their cars. The parking was free and very easy to get in and out of. To promote the race they should advertise more on Instagram. LA has over 50 Running clubs many were on the course today if you have an ambassador go to the run clubs give out discount codes or win a free entry it gets the name out and encourages more to participate, you can even do give Always with the extra shirts that doesn’t cost much! When there’s more participants more vendors come, more vendors bigger sponsors, it’s a win win for everyone!
