Unfortunately I had something come up last minute and I wasn’t able to attend the race so I switched to the virtual run. It was easy with a quick response from the RD. I got my race package very quickly and was pleasantly surprised to get not only a shirt and medal but a goody bag too! Looking forward to doing the race in person next year!

The aid station was very amazing and well placed. I keep my medal on my wall, which I keep all of them in, but I was very proud of this one. I was injured, so this race was difficult, but I would like to come back to see how much more I would have liked it, is I was injury free. I just feel that there should be more food for after because my significant other and I did not get a chance to get any. I will recommend this to my cross country team and coach and I will share it with my social media! Thank you for all the volunteers and those who put it together, awesome race!

The race is completely on a paved, flat, trail designed for bikers, walkers and jogging. The scenery would be pretty meh except for the fact that this is for the Arts! Every few minutes you trot past another group of performers which makes the scenery rather intriguing.
If you’ve never run a 10k before and would like to try this is a nice race to start with because it’s like a road race without car exhaust/city traffic. Plus even if, like me, you end up last – you can salute yourself for supporting the arts.
I feel compelled to explain why describe the course as a “piece o’cake” when I had such a slow time: I was running on a strained ankle. Since my Cancer diagnosis I don’t skip races. I do what I can do for as long as I can. And you know what? I think I had as much fun as anyone despite my time and despite the ankle on fire feeling I had by the end of the race.

The Arts Run Santa Clarita was a fun 5k & 10k that featured various types of live performances along the course including musicians, aerial silks and live theater. They offered free race morning packet pickup, which always makes me happy. The shirt was a simple white shirt. Participants were given 2 permanent markers in their swag bag to color the shirt if desired. The event offered painting and other activities to engage children. My favorite moment in the race was when a group of musicians began playing the Pirates of the Caribbean theme music as I ran by (I was wearing a pirate hat). I don’t know if it was coincidence or if they noticed my outfit as I was approaching. My ONLY critique of this event was that all of the entertainment was in the first half. The 5k runners had entertainment for the entire course while the 10k only got entertainment for the first half. I’m hoping they spread the love a little more evenly next year. The course was on the bike paths in Santa Clarita and mostly flat. Overall, very fun and unique inaugural event. I also loved that I was supporting the performing arts in my local community.
