I did the 5k & Half Marathon. This year is the 10th Anniversary. The Anniversary weekend included a lot of optional additional activities at the Jasper Winery. From an ice cream truck to a spin class. The swag is always good. This year participants got a purple, short sleeve T shirt, a long sleeve, full zip-up jacket, a stemless wine glass, and a canvas tote bag. Plus medals for each event. Miles 1-3, there were hills. And smaller inclines throughout with a hill at the end of Mile 12 heading into the finish line. The event is hosted at the Jasper Winery in Downtown Des Moines.

The race started at 6:30am. You get to see the sunrise over the water. The turnaround route is mostly flat. The start is up a little incline. Around mile 6- mile 8 you run across the Eau Gallie Causeway bridge. There’s a turnaround and you head back the way you came.

The weather was perfect. Cool to start, sunny, no rain. Temperature in the 60s at the middle to end of the race.

The race was heavily impacted this year (2026) due to road construction that resulted in a cancelled full marathon, changed the course for the half marathon, & shortened the course time limit from 4 hours to 3.5 hours. The organizers did offer racers the option to defer to next year without a fee.

Overall, it was a good race and the finish line was kept up until at least the 03:30:00 time limit.

There was plenty of course support. Point to point race route. You get bussed from a local high school to the start line. Buses running throughout the race from the finish line back to parking. Water stops have water, electrolytes, orange slices, and bananas. The finish line had plenty of food, drinks, snacks.
The course is gorgeous. It’s all paved road (Silverado Trail) with vineyards and hills on both sides of the road. You start early enough in the morning to see the sunrise over the hillside.
Course time limit: 6 hours for the full marathon. 6.5 hours for the half marathon

The race course started with running up a rocky incline from the beach. The finish involved running on rocks & pebbles to reach the finish line.

Due to a organizational miscommunication, half marathon/full marathon medals were given to participants of the 5k. The medals do not say 5k. This misstep by the race director resulted in both half marathon and full marathon runners leaving empty handed because they ran out of medals. In addition, the race director who had been front and center the two prior days was nowhere to be seen to address the issue. The person left to tell runners of the issue was the mother of one of the half marathon runners.

Medals were later ordered and mailed. Mailed medals were received 5-6 weeks later. No apology from the organizers and no responses to emails and followup on the situation in the weeks between the event & when medals arrived in the mail.
