The 2016 flat bike-path course had two-way traffic crossing two one-person-wide bridges. Not fun for the leaders on the way back. This year’s race (2017) was mostly on the roads except for a two-mile stretch to the turn around and back out which was a cool, shaded bike path. More hills than last year. Set up at the start and finish was great with ample porta-potties. DJ P-Dogg is a crowd pleaser with great music, cheering every runner across the path. No one like him out there. Black Girls Run national get-together. Very inspiring! Thanks to Race 13.1 for supporting them.
Hated the route this year. There were two narrow bridges that only 1 person at a time could fit and we had to run under Wendover Avenue with 5'7" clearance.

This a good race on many levels — tons of easy parking at the Friendly Center, a huge turnout of friendly folks from several running groups (Black Men Run and Black Girls Run), and a relatively mild course that runs on some city streets, but mostly greenway. Downside: the greenway is a bit uneven, with some fairly extreme side slanting portions, and the concrete is hard on the joints. (My finish time was slowed by the stretching I had to do from miles 10-13.1 to ease my aching hips!) So if you need softer surfaces, this is probably not the race for you. But it was well managed and had nice bling (medals shaped like mason jars!)

I was then able to volunteer and see things from the other side. As a first time volunteer I enjoyed the experience. The race organizer even recognized at me a few weeks later at another event.

It’s a very nice local race. Probably one of the hardest that I did so far with tons of hills. Very well organized and with no problems to arrive and leave the race venue. The registration price is a little too much compared with other races (it is the same price that I paid for one of the Rock n roll half series, which is a much bigger race). Volunteers were amazing and the race staff were very friendly. Will do it again

Start/finish venue was perfect, easy/close/convenient parking. Fun for the entire family. Only drawback was the swag – shirt was extremely thin making it very to see through (not always a plus for women) and did not care for the virtual discounts.
