This is my fourth time running in the Urban Bourbon, and this year was just as enjoyable as years past! Pre-race communication was timely and packet pick-up was easy. The Race Expo was fairly barren, but the race organizers say this is done purposely to focus on the bourbon experience. Still, it would be nice to see a few more local running stores or running-related charities at the expo.

Getting into the race corral was very difficult this year, for some reason–I ended up at the very back of the pack after being unable to get into the corral any other way than through the gates at the very back. That was somewhat frustrating and probably added some minutes to my overall time. The course itself was much the same as years past, taking runners around the city to enjoy some of the fall foliage, period architecture, and the rolling hills through Cherokee Park. There ARE several hilly sections on the course, but they are largely manageable if you’ve run any hills during of your training.

Plenty of food and hydration was available after the race, and the volunteers were very helpful! The medal was pretty standard this year, very similar to the medal two years ago, but still nice. The after-party in 4th Street Live was a blast—loved the bourbon, loved the burgoo, loved the Louisville Crashers! All in all, this is a great local race, and I’m already looking forward to next year!

I went in to this race with high expectations based on reviews of previous years’ races. The packet pickup was very basic. They needed more signage directing you where to go. The race start was typical. There wasn’t much for on course entertainment. On a personal note, I wasn’t ready for the hill that comes between mile 6 and 7. Everyone needs to be ready for that. There weren’t too many people out on course cheering which I could have used after that hill. The post race party wasn’t really going when I finished so I left and headed back to my hotel. I left the race wondering if a lot of the positive reviews are fueled by bourbon. I just want a well run race with great communication (it was okay), a great course (it was okay) and large community involvement (it was just okay).

I have this race on my list, but you could be right...bourbon fueled reviews, lol!!! Never thought of that but probably would not deter me since I am willing to try almost any race that isnt beer focused. I hate beer, even running a marathon does not make me like beer. Lol! LESS

This race was going great for me — great weather (overcast, 50 degrees, slight breeze) and then I hit mile 6.5/7. The hills for miles 7,8, and 9 were intense. The hills literally drained me. I finished the half not with a time that I was happy about but I finished.

I won’t participate in the race again. Huge after party that looked like great fun – if you drink bourbon. Shirt is nice — long sleeve, tech shirt. Medal is okay — has a Jim Beam spinner in the middle of a Jim Beam bottle.

Just like any race, you get out of it what you can/want.

I was super impressed with the swag and postcards race party. Runners received a nice long sleeved tech shirt, cool medal, tons of food at the end, free beer and samples of bourbon. They had a live band playing at the post race party that was phenomenal! There is an awful hill in Cherokee Park, but the rest was smooth sailing. Sarah, the 3 hour pacer was awesome. I highly recommend this race.

This was the race that got me into running! I did it for the first time in 2016, and have done it and loved it every year, and am signed up for this year. This is a well-run race that is at the peak of the Fall season, allowing runners to enjoy some of the beauty that Louisville has to offer. There are a few hills, but being able to see the colorful autumn leaves in Cherokee Park makes it worthwhile!

The packet pick-up usually has a good selection of booths and vendors, with ample parking opportunities. And the after-party for this race? AWESOME. You can choose which bourbon vendors to patronize, and enjoy a bowl of burgoo (a regional favorite) with a beer or bourbon in hand. The Louisville Crashers put on a great show, and they do a phenomenal job interfacing with the crowd! The race organizers do a great job encorporating the theme throughout, and I especially love the awesome medals!

I signed up for this race because of the theme and I figured I could convince my husband to run with me. From bourbon samples at the packet pickup to a gorgeous bourbon bottle medal this race was incredibly fun. The course has some nice hills, but it was very scenic with plenty of fall foliage. Overall, It is a great race to plan a vacation around.

You do this race to get to the finish and enjoy the post party. The expo is small with just the basics… and a bourbon tasting. The long sleeve shirts were very cute and one of my race favorites. The start is 8:30 – allowing you to sleep in if you stay downtown. The starting area is fairly basic, most runners didn’t even line up until about 5 minutes before. Since the race is on the smaller side, there are no corrals, which was a bit annoying for the first 1/2 mile, but people spread out quickly. The first 2 miles go through downtown and you quickly head out of city center. The next two were fairly none descriptive – until you get to the park. The park was pretty but there was a long hill to climb. At the top you were rewarded with a band and then a nice downhill. After heading out of the park you are headed back downtown and you can even see if with a couple of miles left. Then you finish on Main Street, right where you started. After get a Jim Beam bottle medal and exiting with basics (milk, powerade, water, bagels and bananas), you are rewarded with pizza, chili, beer, bourbon and a band. We were lucky with a beautiful day and hours to spend on the Belvedere.
