PROS: Nice weather, net downhill race, and little traffic to contend with since it’s mostly on a bike path. Not much of an expo, but they had past shirts for just $2.
CONS: No spectator info on site, very crowded on the bike path for a few miles since it’s not very wide, also didn’t seem like enough volunteers at water stations – the one at mile 2 struggled to pour water out fast enough to runners. Also not very scenic since you’re on this path along the highway and the finish at Torrey Pines doesn’t actually end close enough to the beach. But the race gave me a chance to visit family in the area around the holidays, and complete state #30.

This night run was very interesting – a 6.5 mile out and back hilly course, so you have to run 2 laps of it for the half marathon. There’s also a section that drops onto a gravel path (slippery) to run by Blackwater Falls, but I wish it was lit up. Super dark along the course, but lighted vest and headlamp worked out fine. There were 3 aid stations along the course, which seemed sufficient. lots of snacks at the finish. nice ceramic medal, and lightweight hoodie! I would def recommend staying in one of the deluxe vacation cabins in the park – all within a 1/2 mile of start and packet pick up. And take a couple of days before or after to hike the trails in the park! (difficult to rate course scenery since it was in the DARK, but the stars were all out!)

Lovely point to point race, mostly downhill. all the race logistics were great – packet pickup, the shuttle, and aid stations. Beautiful sunrise views at the start, and the paved trail along the Virgin River was a great scenic course. First time i’ve ever had cbd muscle rub included in my swag bag!

The half and full run the first 11 miles together…over 7000 runners. Probably wouldn’t have been my first choice for a CT race if I wasn’t visiting local family. (I would have preferred one on the shoreline.) For a city race though, I appreciated the riverwalk section, the city streets and the finish through the arch at Bushnell Park. Great volunteer course support. Nice medal and shirt too!

This is mostly an out and back course that is super hilly, but I would still recommend this OR race! Cute little town, with gorgeous views over the Bridge of the Gods and through the paved trail course. Race logistics were great – shuttle, aid stations and esp the post-race lunch (with real food – carribean rice and chicken plus a vegetarian option). highly recommend it!

They had a full wknd of all distances, even rucking options! Highlights of race wknd – the 5k on Sat had 5 DJs on course, a confetti gun start for each corral for the half/full, and there was amazing neighborhood/course support – music, jello shots, beer and blood marys, donuts, candy, cookies, and tissues.

The course is hilly about the first 3 miles, and the last 10 miles are a very comfortable downhill trail (does not require trail shoes) course from crazy horse to Hill City. Shaded course though, so I was happy with long sleeves. Loved the medal and shirt design. Well organized and every aid station had water, powerade and fruit. Visiting the area also gave me a chance to visit 3 National Parks and Custer State Park. Gorgeous scenery and wildlife. The only tough part was that it’s considered off-season there, so many restaurants/shops were closed or closed early.
