The Hilton Head Running Company looks forward to producing another awesome running experience on Hilton Head Island. There are 2 events to choose from – the Half Marathon (13.1mi) and the Quarter Marathon (6.55mi). The course showcases Hilton Head’s beauty, we’ve got the bling-bling, and mother nature is bringing the … MORE

The race started at 8 a.m., the same day as daylight savings time, so essentially at 9 a.m. That is too late to start a half marathon! The heat and humidity definitely impacted the difficulty.
The race is a double loop on roads and very poorly maintained sidewalks. Unfortunately, one is not exposed to the beauty of Hilton Head in this race. I felt like I was on a trail run in many spots. Aid stations were well spaced, and volunteers were supportive. My favorite support signs were spotted in this race.
Packet pickup is low-key. This is a small, locally supported race—the type that I usually love.
However, this is my least favorite half, and I have no desire to run it again.

Flat. By colignybeach and sea pines.
Low key. Not a lot of runners.
Not a lot of fluff, just enough to get started and finish smoothly.
    Lots of water stations.
Not a lot of traffic so roads not being closed wasn’t an issue. The volunteers and police did a good job making sure we were safe.
It starts at the kids park, so great for families as they wait. We also pass the park a few times so gives many opportunities for cheering without having to go to a special area.
Only thing i didn’t like but wasn’t a big deal is that they did small water bottles at the stations and didn’t open them, so when you’re cold and have gloves on, it’s not a quick sip, throw and go.
Would definitely do it again! The director seemed very nice.
