This is a fun race to have. I like it because it not-for-profit race but had 8,000 folks runnning the half . The information about the race and communications was great. I liked the expo – they had two speakers that always motivate on why I run and had the free picture of you at stage couch setting. You got two shirts. One was in a large Manila envelope that said don’t open until you finish the race . Cute design on the shirt and great medal. Got to see some of the highlights of Fort Worth and there were some great bands on the course to inspire me to run . I had to stop and take pictures like the one about the duck crossing and ducks have the right of way. With all the hills and there were hills, the shots of fireball were welcome. Stayed at the host hotel and took the shuttle. You were in the room where the expo was so you do your pregame stretches without kicking anyone. The hill at mile 12.75- I just had to groan. – I thought only the marine corp marathon had you run up a hill at the end. But the post race was on of the best. Got one of those throw away jackets to keep warm after I finished – a bag to it the banana apple and bar in- I ate the ice cream bar while sipping in the chicken soup and then had a donut and coffee before heading to the beer garden and rocking to the Dj. Recommend this race

This race was put on by a non-profit so the money goes to the community! It was a small race but I can not say enough good things about. Let me hit the hightlights – good communication, cut design of the shirt and medal, flat course, free photos, post party was inside so cold tired and wet – you could sit and eat your 2 donuts, 2 slices of pizza, Mcdonals breakfast sandiwich, small bag of typical race snack and your choice of soda, beer, or white cloud, – it was all bagged so there was no line. I picked up my bib the night before but if you drove or fly in late, you could pick it up that morning at no charge. Free parking at packet pickup and the day of the race. Great folks running the race . After picking up my packet last night, I had dinner at Downtown Grille and they had a special pasta dinner for runners . Food was great. Stayed at the Hampton and they owned the kitchen so I could grab some food to eat on the bus that left at 6;30 and got us to the bridge at 6:45 so we could take our photos of the sun rising on the bridge. Did I say the race was flatter than a pancake. Well marked so I never had a chance to get lost. Ran on the streets but police did a great job of stopping traffic for even us slow folks. There was lots of water stations with great volunteers and there was plenty of room to run . There was a little drizzy which kept me cool. They had 3 flavors of gu. This is one of the best well run small races I have run. This was my choice for Mississippi because I like to support non-profits and I cannot say enough good things about the race ! On

I loved the swag – great long sleeve shirt with a nice design and not 30 sponsors on the back: you also got a light weigh jacket and a race bag to carry it; the medal matched the design on the shirt and when you finished the race, your snacks were in a easy to carry lunch bag. They two different craft beers to choose and plenty of chairs to collapse into . The entertainment on the course was funny – green guy got me motivated; the folks who lived on the playing upbeat music, some one even had bananas- not a runner or he would have cut them into quarters. Best signs life is short except when you run and then it goes on a long time. The other was about you have a call regarding your car extended warranty. I liked the humor and it made me run faster. Plenty of room to run without having to run in and around people . It is a race I would do again

This race had more large puddles than I have ever seen but I am from Los Angeles where it never rains. We did this race because it gave25% to charity. Do that use google maps as it will take you on the bridge and you will spend 30 minutes trying to figure how to get below the bridge. We could see the marathon runners below but were clueless on how to get there. Ten minutes before the start of the race we tried waves and it worked, the race was an out and back on a dirt trail so you didn’t have to worry about getting lost. There so many large puddles that you ended up working around them at the start of the race and then in the way back you walked through them because you were up to your ankles in muddle already. Communication for race was almost nonexistent. The Tshirt was ok but the medal – it looked like it was he middle they used for the fall season and just put a sticker on the back with the date of the race . There was not even a banana when you finished. I have done other small races but…. the scenario was nice but I will not run it again.

This race had great race production. Lots of emails and if you thought it was as too many delete. I prefer more rather than less. Packet pickup was for 8 hours on Friday and it was easy to find and parking was easy. We stayed in Dewey beach which was close to the start and more affordable. Race shirts ran small but you could exchange them without a hassle. Race started on time and there was plenty of free parking. The course was a little crowded but it thinned out. Plenty of water stations and gu. Medal was nice and the food in after party was more than I have ever seen- if you wanted breakfast-it was there. If you wanted lunch, they had too. If you were vegetarian they had you covered. Don’t know how any one could drink the three beers but I am a light weight. Dj was good but I wish the volume had been lower so we could hear each other talk . My only suggestion is the turns in the last two miles needed a volunteer. In my time frame in there was no one in front of me and I was worried about lost. Last comment is volunteer for this race. These were the most awesome long sleeve shirts with zipper and small professional appliqué that said volunteer. We bought one after the race for 25. – it was that nice. Would do the race again if I didn’t live in Los Angeles

I do love running in cold since I am from Los Angeles and this was a beautiful day for a race -40 for most of the race. It was flat and it was a great chance to see and explore the city. I love seeing the Halloween decorations as I tan and the bands that were out. I do the swag – shirt had a great design and made me feel like a star. The cap and warming shirt were perfect when I finished. Special treat pizza and beer although has a white claw to celebrate another fun run. It was a race I would come back to as they had the little details covered . Details – last night I got an email where I could download the poster of the city that had the names of everyone who had ran. That was cool! Great communications and a wonderful way to see the city

I signed for this race on a win and I have learned my lesson. Do not read what the race director writes as it is fluff and review what you write. I wish I had read the one where the runner said he would not repeat. The race had great communication when I asked about water stations and gu. There were plenty of water stations with great volunteers and I packed two gu as there would be done on the course . The half started on time and it was flat and you ran on streets and some trails. This meant I had to spend less time weaving in and out. This was the 40th so you had your choose of red or yellow shirts and you got a special coin for running. They had a small expo which is a surprise now and they did have pacers – for half for folks running 2-00 and 2:15. The post race was not much to write home about and they must not be reading our reviews as there was water, slice of bread , banana, and apple. Because I have run so many races , I assumed the beer would be free . Now I know to look at my bib and no beer tickets means you pay for the beer. The price was great for the race and if you don’t rank swag when you pick a race, this is for you. The suggested hotel was right across from the starting line, I liked the course and the weather was hreat

I am a beach bum which means I have run this several times. It was my first race I have run and I come back every year. Loved this year’s medal and shirt – nothing on the back of the shirt and I am going to wear this shirt as it fits great. Marathon got a purple ribbon and purple on the medal. Lots of crowds on the course, great water stations with cold water and the kids knew finally to only fill the cups half full. Near the end when you wanted to walk, there were beers, mimosas, pretzels and candy – this was after the donut hole mile. It is a great course but I wish we could start earlier because running when it over 80 for someone over 60 = slower times which means more time in the heat. I will be back next year. FYI – I hope they will change the expo. I was out in the same heat the day before and I was in and out of the expo and back to my hotel. I have stayed at Hilton, Westin and Hywatt – love Hywatt if you want to splurge and walk 100 feet from your room to the start of the race. Stayed this year at Westin which had 12:00 check out – finish race, drink beer, walk uphill, take nap, shower, and sign for next year’s race.

This was a great race from start to finish . The emails leading up to the race inspired you yo train. This race was put on by someone who ran and knew what runners wanted – a great shirt that had an elegant design on the long sleeve shirt that was quality- you couldn’t see through the shirt. The medal captured the city and runners. The crowd support was wonderful from the jello cups to the frozen ice pops to the sprinklers on and the homes that had turned up their stereos. It was a home town feel and everyone was cheering for you to finish. The course was well marked and there were volunteers at all turns so your brain could go on auto pilot . The race was scenic and historical . The course was rolling but not hills. There was plenty of parking at the start of the race and there was lots of things to eat at the end of the race. This race deserves a 5 out of 5

Great communication and responses to questions. Race shirt was extra and it was a cute design and they had women’s cut and a wooden medal with bear. Check in was the day of the race and plenty of parking . I did this for my NH state and I run road races so this is where my comments come from. It was small race . It started on time. You start running across uneven grass and then go through lots of mud before the rocks . It was well marked at the start and the finish but when we were in the single track we needed more flags. Great support staff and the views were beautiful. I took this as more of a hike than a race as my road time would have been over an hour faster

This was a fun race. It was small but well marked and even though the roads weren’t closed, we did not see cars. The post party with the wine samples and food samples was great. They had a band playing . I liked that the shirt was optional so if your goal was not to run 50 states you didn’t need to buy the shirt. The course was scenic and if you like swag, communication l, and food this is the race for you

My time says it all – two hours slower than my typical time as my feet and brain kept saying hike as I scrambled up rocks on my hands and knees and then walked though miles and miles on sand even though the Pacific Ocean was a few states away and the sand was red instead of white . I stopped to empty the sand out as my toes complained of having to share the limited space with the sand. The views were beautiful and you go past the picture arch. You want to rent a four wheel drive to get to packet pickup and the start of the race. The shirt and medal was good. Same shirt if you did 15k or 50k, They had ultra type snacks as the Sid stations . I could have used a beer at the end as there was no shade on the course . This review is to let you know what to expect and not a knock the race as they had good aid stations and did good job with communication and such

Communication was great on this although they could have used their own website as I did not know they had a host hotel until I went to packet pick up. It was a small race so there were no pacers but the race was clearly marked and most of it was off main streets. The medal was great and the most event good was good. I liked the course and running bike and runner paths. It was flat and I liked the cold weather – not so much the winds on the second half. Mrs. New Mexico started the race which was a nice touch and I liked the local running store that was at packet pickup and bought almost every flavor of the Taos bars. My not perfect 5 as I saw only one water station on the half. I have my own water but that is only could for 8 miles and I saw and heard from runners I passed asking where the water stations are. Not good! And my other petty complaint is I like to wear my race shirts to advertise the race and where I have been. For a half – a cotton shirt is a no no in my book and two times petty – I don’t want to say 5K 10k and half . The road runner for1st place marathon was great

The race had great e-mail communication and was very marked and had folks directing traffic. It was not their fault the first five miles on the highway had heavy rain and 25 mile winds that you had to run in but running out of medals for runners coming in after 3 hours is not acceptable and running out of Mylar blankets for 3 hour half marathon and 3 hour marathons was even worse . I took my off and gave to a marathoner. Don’t advertise women shirt and then give unisex shirt and for these distances a cotton shirt. This race was point to point and I kept hearing flying pirates in April would be the race to run if you wanted to one in outer banks. I would have enjoyed the great post race party if I was not so cold

If you can survive the first few miles of up hill and wondering why you signed up, you will be rewarded with the most downhill I have ever run in a race. The weather was great – no winds this year. Aid stations were supported by boys and girls club who were very motivating. They did not run out of gu or bananas. The course was well marked and it was very peaceful to run and enjoy the quiet of just runners shoes. Great medal but didn’t care for the shirt- shirt had too much of the front. After party was good was free beer but also water and chocolate milk and cookies ! No corrals but had someone from local high school play the national anthem on her flute. That set the tone for enjoying this race

I did this race for fun as 100% of the race fees go to non-profits in the area. This race draws about 9,000 but has a hometown feel. It starts up with lion dance and then firecracker go off. This race was about thanking the volunteers and the sponsers who stepped up to make this race fun – cute shirt as someone designed it was sense of humor – you will not run the race for the medal but after party – choose bear or watching more local Chinese talent – it was race for the family – they had special 5k runner start, followed by 5k walkers start; I just wish they would start the 10K first which is why I opted down from 10k to 5k

This was my third year running it – I lived in San Diego as a kid and moved away but i love to run this race and see how the city has changed. The course changed over the previous year and it was easier this year. A lot of folks come out to watch the race and cheer the runners on… I was running with a buddy who had not trained and so we took it slow and I stopped to take pictures and have fun.. The ice cold shot of tequila offered at mile 3 was fun… No one else stopped but I was running this race to have fun. I loved the flags and the folks holding them . I was told the shirts have been blue and red to remember our fallen soliders. The race is big but the streets can handle them. I never had to run in or around runners. If you run the Rock N roll in Los Angeles, you will pay the $15 for parking. That is just the way it is unless you know the city and are willing to walk. I like the Rock N Roll expos because Brooks and Toyota are big sponsers so we got to test drive a Prius and have our gait checked for correct shoes. Brooks also had special potties at the start if you spent $100 which was easy. There were short lines. I got my shoes on sale and would do the Brooks potties line again.

If I lived closer to Ohio, this would be a repeat race. This race had been suggested to me by someone who lives there and it looked like the town came out to cheer us on. There were different groups at each mile – favorite was the old folks’ home with signs” This is what happens when you don’t run” and the high football team with the ballon arch at mile 12…. You felt like you had to run your best … And the swag was awesome. A plaque for my four medals, another nice gym bag to carry running gear and I was the only one on the plane who carried back their poster and had it framed so I can remember the fun I had at this race.

This is billed as a family race and it held up to it’s name with up to four hours to finish the half. I liked that they also had an 8K for those who wanted to move up from running the 5k. I was warned about the parking and got there downtown as 6:00 with no problems with the parking. There were seperate starts for the half and the full although we did meet up at the end. Mostly flat course – highlights was the beer at mile 8 and at this point they had water stations every mile. Plently of folks cheering and a few with snacks to choose from. Would have wanted to run along the James River but we did the city streets. The race ended at historic Tredegar which was beautiful and nice to look at while you relaxed with Sierra Nevada beer. I received a nicely designed long-sleeve T-shirt, nice medal, a very cool finishers blanket and a cap. Nice touch when you got you bottle of water at the finish line, they switched the cap open so you did not have to struggle with – liked the bagel but the bananas were raw, trail mix was good but the question of the day – who thought of having pizza at the end of the race? This was only eatten by those runners under 30. It was a fun race overall and coming from Los Angeles, I was grateful to run somewhere that was under 60 degrees!

I would recommend this race. It was well run and probably had under 5000 runners. Plenty of parking and 7:00 start time. Everyone started at the same time but there was plenty of room for everyone to run. There were lots of water stations and plenty of water. Your bib was mailed to you at no charge. You could pick up your tech shirt the day of the race. It was a cute design of the front and blank on the back of the shirt. You also got a bag with the shirt. This is something you no longer see and you could them in at gear check. You had your choic of four different beers at the end of the race or champagne and you only had to wait less than five minutes. There were cute surfer guys handing out medals . In the beer area there folks on stilts to entertain you and cute surfer girls you could have your picture taken with. There was a celebration run sign with a surf board next to it for pictures you could take. That had a quality electrolyte on the course. There was only the uphill when you were going over the overpasses. Only complaint is there was lot of miles in the hot sun with nothing to take your mind off the heat but I as thankful for the frequency of the water stations in those areas. The race was priced under $100. Good value. I would recommend it.

Long beach had record heat this week and I was so happy to hear that they would allow the half marathons to start with the marathoners as it was already hot at 5:30 and I think they learned from the Los Angeles marathon this past March that had record heat too. This is my fourth time running the race as it is flat and there are wide lanes to run most if the race so you do not have to weave in and out of runners. There is great volunteer and fac support so there are folks cheering you along the way. Registration is easy and they have a great expo although this year there seemed to be less vendors. I recommend spending the night in long beach so you do not have to fight the crowds. Great grassy areas to relax after the race and when you do the race three times you become beach bum which means better beer and quiet place to relax after the race with your own not stinky potapotty. Also get coupon for the aquarium so you have something to do with the kids after the race. There are about 20,000 plus participants and it is a good race if you are Boston bound. I did my personal worse in the race. Too hot to run and it is usually in the 60’s with a nice ocean prize. Lots of great photo ops.

great volunteers on the course with water and gatorade but you need to bringb your own gu the police were great at stopping traffic an nd trhen even offered me their coffee it was a flat course and the creek would have been nicer if it was not year 4 of a drought, Race started on time with chipper anouncer. Logo for the race with cute and that was why I signed up. My own complaint is that it said tech tee shirt and it was Haines cotton tee It should have said what it was,,,,shirt to wear after the race….We lucked out and it was not in the 100, Plenty of parking and it was out an back on bike trails so you could nt get lost.. great race value with pancakes after you finished

They need to improve registration. It was one if the worst. The signs for the bibs so you know what line to wait on were at waist level which meant that they could not be seen. You waited in line for 40 minutes hot and cranky. Need to do something different next year. Also the shirt was cute but we expect a tech shirt that is dri fit. Disappointed and do not know when I will wear it. Highlights. Fitbit was there and I now run with this. I also liked kicking horse coffee who was at the start of the race giving free coffee to runners who had to get there an hour early. Also want to do a shout out to lucid media who took great photos and show special of 19.99. Lots of space at the park to do wine tasting. And because the race starts uphill you lose the slow walkers right away and I did not have to weave in and out of folks on the race. Ps. I am not that fast but… I do recommend the race and make hotel reservations early
