The marathon is two loops of the half course, and the number of half runners dwarfs those running 42.2. This is a minor inconvenience at the end as both races merge. The course is very convoluted but extremely well marked and with volunteers at every turn. You run through the old town, through Central Park and along a river path. Very scenic. The tshirts come in female sizes (yay!) and are pretty splashy.you can stay at the Radisson just across the street from the expo, start, and finish – very easy! All in all, an interesting place to visit and great event.

The race is two out-and-backs centered around the start/finish on the promenade by the sea. The roads are wide with not many turns and it’s quite flat. They choose to start at 7:15 – wise as it’s usually hot(ish). Lots of volunteers; great energy. The finish is quite lovely – running through a colonnade of palm trees! The medal is a word salad of descriptors of the race; no distinctive views. The t-shirt is available only in Men’s sizes, and while nice, the XS was two sizes too big for me. Cyprus in March is a great holiday – usually sunny and warm! Would recommend!

The course might be hard (my Garmin said 450 m elevation gain and loss), but everything else is easy. In February, one can stay on the Riva (waterfront) and the expo, race start and finish are all just a short walk. The organization was excellent, with many volunteers guiding the runners on a convoluted course – a lot of it on the waterfront, and some in the old town going through Diocletian’s palace. The medal was plain but weighty, and the race shirts are delightful- unique striped design with women’s sizing available. Split is a fantastic place to visit, and the Mediterranee restaurant in Hotel Ambasador was so good, we ate there many times.

The info at the expo was confusing with respect to how to get to the start – conflicting messages. However on race day, once I got on the tram, all was easy. A marching band played on the ferry. It was about 2-3 km walk to get to the start- which sends you off on the bridge from Asia to Europe right away. First five km and last two km are hilly with an uphill finish. The medal is lovely, but tshirts don’t come in women’s sizes and smallest is Men’s S – good for about a 140 pound person. Water, bananas and oranges available – no sport drink and coke only at 25 and 35 km. All in all a very worthwhile event!

This race is well organized and a joy to participate in. It’s about half in residential areas, and half along the coast with a lot of undulations. The many canted roads are a bit of a problem. The swag for marathon is an amazing UnderArmour jacket – this is one piece of swag it is worth not going green for. There are many hotels very close to the start/finish – we stayed at the Huntington, and they would not allow a late checkout – you would have to run 2:30 or faster to get back in time for checkout.

The worst organized marathon of my nearly 200! Package pickup not done by race organization – only two sizes of men’s tshirts available. Three portapotties at the start for 9,000 runners. Fast, wide streets, but when we merged and unmerged with the halfers, confusion and air pollution from motorbikes on the sidewalk. At the end, no medals , crammed in tight space while runners around me nearly rioted.

A beautiful course with top notch spectators holding some goofy signs. One of the fastest courses I’ve run on, with lots of wide streets. Nice, cool weather. Organization not great though – package pickup unnecessarily slow and awkward; same with passing security into the start area – took over 30 minutes.

A race with a lot of buzz; many spectators, who yelled “well done” and “fair play to youse”. Great medal! Perfect weather and a fast course.

Make sure you give yourself enough time to get to your corral. All but the two fastest corrals have to be entered by going way around the start – at least 1.5 km extra. Downsides are the extreme crowding on course, plus the finisher shirt is unisex, not well made, and they don’t reserve your size, so I ended up with a shirt that hung 4 inches past my fingers.

Gorgeous run along the coast and through park paths. It was a hot day and all the home owners came out to spray us with their garden sprinklers and yell Heya heya. The t-shirt was nice with women’s sizes available and the medal was classy and not very showy. I especially liked the countdown to the finish line every 100 m starting 3 km out.

What a beautiful course and well organized race. Steep downhill at start for two miles, and gradual uphill for the last mile. Conditions were hot (24 degrees), but the organizers took very good care of us – fire trucks sprayed us down. Wonderful finish line right next to an outdoor patio at the Hotel Moskva, so your family can sip drinks as they wait for you to finish.

In 2024, the weather made this race an adventure- rain, snow, and sleet! It tours through old town, then a 17 mile out and back along the lake – all pretty flat. I wouldn’t recommend for marathoners slower than 4 hours – half marathoners starting later overtake you aggressively and there’s no separate finish line. Nice medal and fantastic t-shirt.

This was my final marathon on the seven continents quest, so naturally, I thoroughly enjoyed it. There are many differences from a North American race. Registration was a challenge; the race was SUPER CHEAP (less than $20 if I remember correctly) with a great technical T-shirt and medal. On course support is less – usually only water available, but there were two energy drink (in plastic bags that you bite open) stations. Instead of gels, they handed out packages of peanuts! Two significant hills in the last 5 km.
