The marathon is two loops of the half course, and the number of half runners dwarfs those running 42.2. This is a minor inconvenience at the end as both races merge. The course is very convoluted but extremely well marked and with volunteers at every turn. You run through the old town, through Central Park and along a river path. Very scenic. The tshirts come in female sizes (yay!) and are pretty splashy.you can stay at the Radisson just across the street from the expo, start, and finish – very easy! All in all, an interesting place to visit and great event.

Cluj-Napoca Marathon is a running festival in the romanian city of Cluj-Napoca which is located in the area of Transilvania in Romania. It´s a perfectly organized festival with a fantastic atmosphere. The expo takes place in a modern hall just next to the iconic Cluj Arena. It´s a nice small expo and everything is easy going. All runners get a coupon for the pasta party where you get tasty pasta either with tomato or carbonara sauce. The cotton goody bag contains gel, bars, a T-Shirt, 20 Euro coupon for low budget airline Wizz-Air (main sponsor), multi functional headwear and playing cards. Wow, really amazing as the registration fee was so low, just 15 Euro! Runners can run 5k in the morning (for free and also with a T-Shirt for free and a medal), full marathon, half marathon or 10 k. The atmosphere is super – it´s like a festival for the whole family. I ran the half marathon, but would definitively run the 5k before next time. The course of the half marathon was flat and quite scenic as it lead through historic downtown several times. Start and finish was in the Cluj Arena – a modern iconic stadium! Of course every runner got a beautiful medal and drinks as well as oranges, bananas etc. were provided. All in all a fantastic race – perfect for all runners looking for a good and VERY REASONABLE race in a city off the beaten track! I will be back for sure!!!
