The first half was beautiful running next to a fjord! The second half was less scenic (side of a road) and constant rolling hills. Looks like the medals are the same every year but a nice lobster claw. Event was ran really well and had the best “pre” race party I’ve ever seen. A heated large building with coffee, fresh from the oven biscuits, and other snacks. Bathrooms on the course were scarce but frequent water/aid stations. Overall- I’d recommend. It’s an amazing place for a vacation and the PERFECT time of year.

This was state #11 for me and my favorite so far. Such a fun group of people and community involvement was top notch. Plus if you love history you can spend top at the Hatfield and McCoy historical sites. Or if you love hiking there is a lot of that too! Definitely will try and make it back again!

A really well-organized run even with over 12000 participants. Booking a hotel through the race website was easy and provided a lot of perks (late check out, cheaper parking and overall cheaper rate). Swag was great and really unique. Loved getting a coffee mug as well as a shirt. Expo was smaller than I expected (but fine). Starting and Finishing near the “Rocky Stairs” made for great photo shoots! Fairly flat course until one near the end (when your tired!) Plenty of aid stations.

One of my all time favorite half marathons. The course is difficult on the uphills but you feel like you are flying on the down hills. Hot Springs is such a neat town to explore while you are there! By far my favorite finisher medal- it lights up and spins. I highly recommend this one!

Local to the area and love being a part of this race weekend (even years I haven’t ran). Flat course (except for some on-ramps) that takes you from Illinois into Iowa and back into Illinois. Extremely well organized with a great after party. Large expo too!!

Nice race to check off Iowa. Well organized. Course is gradually uphill for the first half, then Flattens out before a gradually downhill. Not a lot of scenery but running through neighborhoods offers crowd support throughout the course

I ran this as my Indiana half marathon because I loved the swag and theme. Very nice sweater shirt for a small up-charge and a cute reindeer medal that doubles as a cookie cutter. The course was a loop you ran twice. During one portion you ran next to a well kept homeless camp that locals have since told me is well maintained. Since it’s a smaller race I ran much of it alone. Not much of an after party but they did have mimosas! My mom is 65+ and by the time she finished the awards ceremony was over and she had to ask the director for her age group winner medal. (She was still well below the cutoff time). I think the 5k would have been a lot more fun.
