Great weather for a 10-mile run in the nation’s capital and VA. The Army 10 Miler put on a smooth event for over 28K runners. Top notch event with good swag and good crowd support. Expo at the DC Armory was nice and easy in and out.
I trusted my training and was running good splits. A short pit stop (extra .25mile) to run to a restroom along the National Mall due to long lines along the course.
I’ll continue to run this every year that I’m not doing the Staten Island Half.

This might be my favorite 10-Mile course and probably because I am bias to the fact that I am an Army Vet. To see everyone out on the course running their hearts out and a course that had lots of variations of hills and flat pavement was refreshing. It was the perfect challenge for a great cause.

I highly recommend taking the metro to the Expo. The stadium-armory station puts you literally at the doorstep of expo. Decent expo got lots of free swags, no line at all! I parked at the fashion city mall, which is 1/2 mile from start. Beware of road closures, the main road to the pentagon is blocked for traffic so get there early. Decent course, no real hills. Overall, a decent race but tough logistics. Worth doing once, not sure if i will do it again.

This is a fun race to do, but I’ll caveat that it feels more like a fun run / training run with a lot of people as opposed to a race. The corrals are not strict so you get a lot of paces, but the corrals were pretty spread out. Nice tour of the DC area!
Gotta do it at least once

Always well-run and well-attended-consistently the best course I’ve raced in the last 23 years. Patriotic, inspirational, scenic, excellent support for water and safety. Arrive at the starting line early enough to see the Golden Knights jump and the Army helicopters fly-over. Great crowd of runners!

Incredibly well supported run, chance to run with members of the military community, and great (flat) course route through the National Capital Region. This was my first time running the Army Ten-miler after 21 years of military service. It was a great opportunity to run with fellow service members, veterans, and families. Received a long sleeve technical shirt and pentagon shaped medal. Post race snacks and tents sponsored by military organizations. Overall, a fun atmosphere and great way to run remembering our fallen comrades.

Well managed for a mega-event, but very disappointed 2021 went to “virtual,” or what I call “training.” Cherry Blossom ran in Aug. M street fest was held in Oct. Capital City ran. But the Army said their motto is “safety first”!!! If in DC, the scenery and other runners are the best. Otherwise , looks like a regular Sat run-

Last time I ran this race was in 2017. The course was different than in 2017 which I preferred. Great change up so I hope they continue with this course except I wish they would by pass the dreaded 14th St bridge. Scenery was great as you run past many different monuments so if you’re a first timer you will love it. Swag was better in 2017 as was the after party. It appeared to me as less vendor as well as Army divisional support. As with Army tradition, you receive a coin at the end of the race. Perfect to display on my desk at work. Overall a great race if you have not done this one before. You’ll run with 30K other runners of all abilities. Have fun and enjoy!
Swag was better in 2017.

If I was asked to give a grade to the overall organization of the Army Ten Miler (ATM), I would give an A+ – just like that of the Marine Corps Marathon (MCM) – both running events are superbly run in total organization. This year’s ATM had a course change – due to some ongoing construction, but with or without this, the ATM route still ran by some famous monuments in Washington, D.C. Plenty of fluids were available throughout the course, which on this day was greatly needed, and appreciated – one of the more humid days in recent memory. The Army soldiers who were assigned throughout the course gave great support and encouragement to all runners – they are all deserving of our respect for all that they do – as the Army says – Hooah!!!! The title of my short message – “Age is just a number” – my time in this year’s ATM was the fastest I have run in the past 3 years – I turned 67 this year, and I felt like I was a “Chariot on Fire.” If you have the will, and you stay focus on your goal – anything is possible, regardless of your age. The ATM today – the MCM on October 28, 2018 – another great event – looking forward to it.

…But it was just okay.
Pros:
-Super fun to run past all of the landmarks and monuments
-Festive atmosphere
-I liked the challenge coin rather than the traditional medal
-I really liked the hat, I still wear it quite a bit
Cons:
-It felt disorganized. I understand that its huge, but everything from getting out of the metro, into the corrals, trying to get food (not much left and I was solidly middle of the pack), the lack of coins (Mailed later) all just left a bad taste in my mouth
-Finish line volunteers were polite, but had no idea what was going on, where we needed to go, nothing. Seemed like poor communication
-Registration fills quickly, pay attention in May if you want to get in! 2015 was a challenging year with a lot of registration site crashes
Bottom Line:
I travel to DC frequently, I wasn’t put off by the security (at the expo or the corrals), just how disorganized it all seemed. I will say that I have friends who have run this race multiple times and all agreed that 2015 was significantly more unorganized than other years, so perhaps I just picked a bad year!

A great chance to run with 30k+ of your newest friends! Many of the runners are service members in all of the uniformed services. Instead of a traditional finishers medal; the Army awards a traditional challengers coin to each finisher. Be warned in advance that the beginning is fairly jammed packed for about the first two miles.

I have run the Army Ten Miler (ATM) 7 times, and I love this race – 2006 is my best time so far, and still working to improve on that. The ATM is the biggest ten miler in the Nation, and the Army does an outstanding job on the entire event. Great sights to see in running in the Nation’s capitol. Post refreshments, foods are plentiful. Tents from various units throughout the U.S. are also set up that offer some other great snacks. The ATM is run in the same month as the Marine Corps Marathon (MCM) , and many runners use the ATM as a warm up before the MCM. Both are about 2 weeks apart. I highly recommend this run to all – you will not be disappointed. The long sleeve shirt are always nice, and the coin medals are also nice.
