Really enjoyed this race. The elevation is around 3,200 feet so if you’re coming from sea level, recommend running a couple days there before the race. Weather was perfect, mid 40s with a little drizzle.

Parking for the race was pretty easy. We found a spot on the street right outside of the university. Bus lines were organized, steady flow getting on.
Pre-race start was lively. While it didnโ€™t seem like there were a lot of port-a-lets, the line went pretty fast.
Start had a bit of a stagger. It was a little crowded early on but then it thinned out (about 3,200 people for the half). First half of the course was so beautiful. Lots of downhill. 2nd half was nice, but more residential. Saw some horses and goats in the 2nd half. Lots of aid stations with great volunteers. Itโ€™s a pretty quiet course so if you need constant crowd support or entertainment, this isnโ€™t the race for you.
Energetic finish line. Post race food was a cold veggie noodle bowl. They also had Core Protein drink, beer and a few other things.
Overall, I recommend this race. If you’re trained up and acclimated to the elevation, definitely a PR course!

Race had good communication. There were several hotel options within walking distance of the start/finish. I registered late so stayed near the airport and it was an easy drive, about 15 min. Parking was also easy, there was plenty of parking.
Lots of port-a-lets, so you didn’t wait in line too long, even right before the race. Gear check was easy.
This was my first time to Richmond and I enjoyed the course. Lots of crowd support throughout the race. Definitely several hills but nothing to big or long, and downhills made up for them. I can see why it would be a PR course. I wouldn’t say it was super scenic but there were some really pretty parts.
Race afterparty was nice, lots of food options: pizza, popcorn, fruit, bars, Titos Vodka (lol). Nice swag: hat, blanket, log sleeve shirt and medal was very nice.

I was running this as a training run for an Ultra, so not going for a Personal Best. It was easy to find the busses. We stayed about 15 min away. Traffic was very backed up as we approached the exit on the highway. Thankfully we left early enough to we didn’t have to rush. Staging area was energetic, plenty of portalets.

The first few miles were pretty steep downhill, then I believe in Mile 4, you had a nice climb for what seemed like a mile or so. After that it will still downhill, but not steep anymore. It a very gentle downhill. It was not very scenic, as there’s not much to see in Mesa. Everything was just brown, the houses, buildings, etc. But there’s so much nearby that it makes a great destination race. We went to Sedona after the race and stayed there a few days. By mile 19, it had gotten pretty warm but had it stayed cool, this is a great BQ course. If I could predict the weather, I’d come back to BQ for sure! Even without really trying I ran a decent race. Nice medal, and loved that they offered a tank top as a shirt option. I prefer that.

I’ve run this race every year but once since it started in 2017. And the only reason I missed one year is because I was running a marathon. This race is top notch. You can tell they have the city’s support. It’s a PR course for sure. The venue is beautiful on the water. No hills, other than a tiny incline around mile 9. Nice outdoor Expo with enough vendors. Several tents for run clubs. The swag is some of the best ever: tumbler, soft bamboo shirt, seat cover. Lots of food options: pizza, pasta, Acai bowl, fresh fruit, beer, bloody mary bar, Kombucha and more. Plus food trucks if you want to purchase something. Largest massage area I’ve ever seen. Relaxation areas to sit, lively DJ and stage area. I can’t say enough about how much I love this race! Weather can be “iffy” as it is Florida. So I’ve run it when it’s been 50 degrees and 80 degrees. This year it started in the 60s and got into the 70s, so never got really bad, and humidity was low. Highly recommend.

Communication was perfect. Came in from out of state. Race course was great, enjoyed some of downtown as well as lakefront. Weather was perfect for that time of year (50s). Race swag was better than some half or full marathons! The jacket is really nice! Post-race was great with awesome food and beverage options. Lots of room to spread out and sit after the race. Corrals were well organized. Would recommend and repeat if I’m in the area.

If you want to PR, do this race either the half or full. Weather is usually cool so good for running. Lots of waterfront scenery and nice neighborhoods. Not much crowd support if you need that. Race is well organized. The organizers are very experienced and typically put on a flawless event. Post race offer pasta with meatballs. I mention the meatballs because it’s rare to get protein after a race, which is when you need it. They also have wonderful brownies and other good post race food. Medals and shirts are nice, shirts are tech. If I’m in town, I will always run this race.

We chose this race as it was driving distance for us and we could knock out a new state. So glad we did. The race was well organized, great communication. Lots of lodging options walking distance to the start/finish. Enjoyed the course. Lots of boardwalk running which I love. Because it has rained, they were a little slippery but they were nice and wide. Gentle elevation thru the State Park with one short climb up the pedestrian bridge in Mile 11. Nice afterparty. I loved that you could use real restrooms at The Hangout and stay inside to keep warm. Great food after the race, including Gumbo. Would definitely recommend this race and do it again!

Great communication before the race.
Packet pickup was simple and easy.
Race morning parking was plentiful and easy.
Race area was nice at a park. Plenty of port-a-lets. Great atmosphere with music.
Race ran a couple miles thru the park and we saw many deer which was awesome.
Course was perfect, enough turns to keep it interesting. This is not a completely flat course but the inclines were gentle and not long, and the declines were great. So this also made for a good course.
Course went thru neighborhoods, main streets and parks. Lots of great scenery especially when you were near the water.
Course support was amazing! So much police support, you felt completely safe, even on the roads that weren’t “closed”.
Loved the turn into the finish line! Great atmosphere.
Awesome medal and finish line party with great food options from local food trucks.
I have nothing but good things to say about this race! I’m glad I chose it to run a Personal Best and a Boston Qualifier. And while the race can’t control this, the weather was absolutely perfect, low 40s to start with almost no wind and sunny skies.
