Due to the unique multi-loop course setup, there is one giant “aid station,” with more food and drink than you could ever need! Ask anyone who’s run at least one of our races; we’ve got everything from fruit to jelly beans to sandwiches, water to Gatorade to hot coffee, and everything in between. Way more than just granola bars and bananas – we even have our very own mobile kitchen, Loony Lunchbox!
Every participant (full or half marathon) will receive one t-shirt and other fun goodies. All finishers will receive a separate medal for each day; in addition, we give a special medal to those who complete all races in a series. We even give a special award to each person participating in his or her first full or half marathon! The best part: The famous caboose, given to the final finisher of each marathon and half marathon!
Lums Pond State Park is built around the largest freshwater pond in Delaware. The park features excellent camping, fishing, sports facilities, hiking trails, and an unforgettable Go Ape! Treetop Adventure Course featuring rope ladders, treetop crossings, Tarzan swings and 5 zip lines — four of them over water.

We signed up for the Independence and New England Series – 9 days – 9 States – 9 Half Marathons and we couldn’t have picked a better race series and group of people – Daniel and Jessie are Amazing and make sure every runner has a great experience!! Plenty of snacks, water and Gatorade. Delaware was a nice easy – a few slopes nothing major. I suggest wearing gators on your shoes – the course is a mix of pavement, dirt and gravel. It’s a loop course so you come back to the start 7 times if you need anything. We stayed at the Best Western Plus Philadelphia in Chester. About a 45 minute drive to race

Delaware prides itself to be called “the first state” but to me it was a new state on my way to complete my first time around the 50 states. I went the distance with my #loony #50States #marathonmaniacs #halffanatics friends. It was hot but our brothers at Mainly Marathons feed us, watered and popsicles us to the finish. I love mainly races because they know how to take care of the runners. We of course got swag, series shirts, series medal, race medal, and if you finish the series a series finisher medal. Those that RunRagged (complete both Independence Series and New England Series) received the coveted Belt Buckle. First timers get a special medal and a free second race. Sound pretty Loony to me… but after all I am loony.

This was a typical Mainly Marathons run, except there was a little more variety of running surfaces. Like many of their races, the course consisted of a short out and back. This allows them to run longer races without having a large number of aid stations and a large number of volunteers. It works if you know a lot of the people, but can get boring at times. The course started out by going around 3 sides of a paved parking lot, then across a grassy area, then through a dirt trail, then a paved road that alternated with a couple of gravel sections. The park was nice and green with verdant trails, but with the 16.5 out and backs that I had to do for the 50K, it was a little monotonous. The humidity really sapped my strength, but the race organization can’t do much with the weather. There was a good crowd this year and the aid station food was good.
