In 2018, the NYC Half changed its route and made it a two borough race, between Prospect Park in Brooklyn and Central Park in Manhattan. After the difficulties in the cramped start area, this year the NYRR relocated the start inside the Prospect Park and it was a lot better and roomier, lots of porta-potties, tents, and room to warm-up. The route is excellent, esp. the rundown from the Manhattan bridge and run up the 7th avenue through the Times Square!!! Highly recommended!!!

Honors Fred Lebow, the father of the NYC marathon. Great half-marathon to jumpstart the season and always solid organization by the NYRR. Fun to do when weather’s alright. This year was windy, rainy and cold, a true suffer-fest but hey it can’t be easy all the time;)

Definitely a bucket list item. You have to run it at least once. Enjoy the scenery and cheering crowds. Tough course as all the big hills come up in the last 10 miles of the race. Still, a must do marathon, mainly for the AMAZING crowds;)

Great race to get ready and kick off the TCS NYC marathon race week festivities. An easy 5 miles in the Central Park, very familiar to local runners. MORE

Finally, after 2 years of really crappy weather we got a PERFECT day: NO RAIN, 50°F, overcast, not too humid, just what’s needed for a new PR. First 8 miles are fairly flat, the hills start just past the 8-mile marker, some flats between miles 11-13, with an uphill finish after. Plenty of aid stations, water and Gatorade. NYRR knows how to put on a great race, every single time!!! It’s just so far away to get to, that’s the only minus but you get to enjoy the sunrise with the views of the Statue of Liberty while taking the Staten Island ferry to the start;)
