The Standard Chartered Hong Kong Marathon, started in 1997, with a record of entries achieved in each year. Now it has become a signature international sporting event in Hong Kong and was recognised as a “Brand Hong Kong Event” by the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government.

Whilst much of the run is on a highway through west kowloon, it was suprisingly pleasant. With bright sunshine and 13 degrees the conditions were perfect. Several very long bridges and tunnels add some elevation. The home stretch along the harbour front on HK island was great, but collided with shorter distance runners who provided a human traffic jam when you least expect it. If i could have run the last 7k faster it would have been impossible to do so. A very well organised event for all logistics.
