I signed up early for this one. Signed up for the 28k. Brought back memories of the GritOcr. Recieced email that the course changed. Perfect response from the race director. No problem at all. Ended up being a multiple lap race. My first time doing something like that. Each lap ended up being around 3.35 miles for practically 20 miles or almost 33k πŸ˜‚. Each lap was tougher and tougher but I pushed through and finished. I actually liked this change.

Waking up before sunrise, lacing up my shoes, and stepping onto the starting line of the Sugardaddy Half Marathonβ€”there’s nothing quite like the anticipation of race day. The energy was electric, with runners of all levels gathered to take on the scenic course through Santa Clarita Valley.

From the moment the race began, I could tell this was going to be a great run. The paved paseo trails made for a smooth and fast course, and the mostly flat terrain was perfect for keeping a steady pace. The Iron Horse Bridge crossing was a highlightβ€”there’s something special about running over a historic landmark with the finish line in sight.

The race was well-organized, with plenty of hydration stations and enthusiastic volunteers cheering us on. The support along the way made a huge difference, especially in the later miles when fatigue started creeping in. And let’s talk about the finishβ€”crossing that line and earning the Sugardaddy Race bling felt incredible. The Ben & Jerry’s ice cream at the end? The perfect way to cool down and celebrate the effort.

Overall, the Sugardaddy Half Marathon delivered everything a runner could ask forβ€”a scenic route, great organization, and a fun atmosphere. Whether you’re chasing a PR or just out to enjoy the experience, this race is a fantastic way to kick off Father’s Day weekend. I’ll definitely be back next year!

This my first 50k race. Originally signed up for the 2020 race but was postponed. I finally got to it and glad I did. This was on my bucket list. MORE

This was the toughest GRITOCR race yet! Combined with the July heat and new obstacles and tweaks to the course, this was very rewarding for my first OCR in California since the shutdown of 2020. This was my 3rd time in a row and can’t wait until next year!

2nd year doing the GritOCR with my wife. Brought along 3 additional people this year. We have done many OCR races in the past and I looked forward to this race. Last year there was rain (out of their control) and I was excited to do this course without the rain/mud. It did not disappoint! Great course to run…and hike…and strength. I like finishing and not having to change my shoes and clothes before going home.
