At the Skidaway Island Half, you will enjoy miles of perfect scenery, amazing marsh and river front views, elegant homes and sneak peaks of the Landings Golf Courses. This is mostly an open course because the traffic is minimal, and you’ll likely share the road with a homeowner enjoying their daily golf cart ride. The course is almost entirely paved; generally super flat. It is certified by US Track and Field and can be used as a qualifying time. You can expect green grass, flowers and cool breezes off the marsh. The average temperature has been in the mid 70s by noon. It is small next to the national races so you won’t be fighting an crowds for your free parking.
Run the half marathon and enjoy beautiful scenery, a quiet and peaceful course hosted by a local race company. About 800 of our runners will participate in the half with 200 more running the 5k. Then enjoy an afternoon in the fabulous Savannah Area. You can tour downtown, hit the beach on Tybee Island or explore the rivers looking for dolphins or fishing.
Savannah has been called “America’s most beautiful city” and Skidaway Island is one of its jewels. This is your opportunity to run where most Savannahians only dream if running. It isn’t on your everyday tourist website because this course is hosted in the premiere Island Neighborhood – The Landings Association and The Landings Club.

Ran as a pacer for the second year in a row. The course is beautiful and flat. The race director, volunteers, and sponsors were amazing as usual. This was the 10th year of this race and participants run through a beautiful upscale neighborhood. It would have been nice to have more of the residents come out and cheer the runners on. There were a lot of quiet spots on the course. Otherwise the race was great and the weather was perfect!

If ever you’ve longed for a peaceful race watching the sun rise over the marsh complemented by just enough hype to set your personal PR, this race is IT! The course is beautiful, filled with water views, lush greenery, and best of all, the flattest you’ll find. The medals are absolutely beautiful and the shirts are professional running quality (I do it for the shirts as my bib boards say). The race runs smoothly and without hiccups, ensuring it is your best race yet. Best of all? It’s located on one of Savannah’s most beautiful islands, so you can celebrate your newly achieved PR in our scenic downtown or enjoy a day relaxing at the beaches. Not ready for the half? Enjoy the 5k option with an equally iconic setting. This is now my new favorite Savannah race, and we’ve been sampling all of them for the past two years. My FIL from Atlanta was so incredibly impressed with this race and will be back next year!

The course is flat that winds through a wooded area, a golf cart path, next to a marsh, then back. The scenery changes so often that it’s hard to get bored with the course as often happens with longer races when the scenery stays the same. Volunteers all through the course and the residents in the neighborhood are very welcoming. The race is very well organized. There are pacers if you want to pace in a group. Participants of all abilities are welcome. If this is your first half or full, you could not pick a better locale or race!

Skidaway Island was my first race at the half marathon distance. My experience was awesome from start to finish.
Sign up was straightforward with a super generous cancellation and transfer policy. I caught a cold from my kids 2 weeks before race day and was happy to have options.
The course is flat with generous shade. The Landings has many beautiful trees and gorgeous scenery to take in while running.
Crowd support was strong at the aid stations but the majority of the course was quiet. Crowded 5 and 10ks with lots of loud spectators are not my jam. Aid stations were well stocked and spaced evenly throughout the course. The course photographers were friendly and took a lot of great shots (no extra cost for photos).
Packet pickup was straightforward and the start/finish line was full of energy, snacks and clean bathrooms.
I highly recommend this race and I’m excited to run the half (or maybe the full!) next year!

Extremely well-run event with a lot of communication heading into the race weekend. Water stops every 2 miles on the course made it easy to get hydration. The course is very flat and, this year, was 2 loops due to lack of police ability to cover crossings. The only downside to the race was the heat this year. Upper 60s and low 70s was difficult for me – but may be okay for those who train in the south. The course is open to traffic – this can be difficult on the mail road leading to the start/finish which is about 2.5 miles. If you are trying to run tangents, that involves crossing the road – which is fine – just watch for cars. The part of the course that is run through The Villages, a closed golf and home development, is very beautiful but also open to “traffic” – watch for golf carts! Those drivers are less apt to yield than automobiles. Overall – I’d recommend this race – especially for 50 state runners who are looking for an alternative to the rolling hills in Atlanta. This course is as flat as any I have run.

This race takes place on a private island approximately 25 min drive away from Savannah. It was incredibly well-organized, with lots of emails about what to expect and how to prepare since it’s an open course.
The pacers were great, water stops were about every 2 miles with Gatorade at about every other water stop, two stops had caffeinated Huma gel, and the course was quite serene with lots of views of nature on a mostly shaded, paved path. I even saw an adolescent gator by one of the ponds! The marathon course was two laps, and there was a table where runners could put fuel/drinks to get at the halfway point.
This was a small race (138 marathoners, 387 half marathoners, 156 5k runners) and there were some stretches when I could not see anyone ahead of me or behind me. The spectators were friendly but not plentiful, and since most of the course is through a gated community the runners’ friends or family were not allowed there. There is no real-time tracking app or website. It was nice to see people cheering us on from their front lawns or golf carts. The course was well-marked and easy to follow. The gnats were present in hoards, but didn’t bother me during the actual race, they were non-biting but quite annoying prior to the race start and after the finish line when I was standing around – guess I was too fast for them to catch me when running! Finish line prize included a nice metal (same one given to all finishers of 5k/half/full), Tifosi sunglasses for marathoners, and Girl Scout cookies were among the post-race fuel options.
In summary, I was impressed with this race and I recommend it.

It is an open course so you have to dodge golf carts and cars, but they are courteous. If you’re not from Savannah, be aware the GNATS are in full force. They weren’t a big deal when running but after the race they were sticking and swarming to everything!
The course is flat and has some scenic views. Plenty of water stations along the way. The medal and shirt were really nice this year.

The race was pleasant but small, totally flat and mostly through a golf course/gated community. It was a great weekend trip to Savannah though, and I’m very glad I chose it for my Georgia half. The only thing I’d do differently would be race-morning pickup. I didn’t know it was an option and we had to drive out of town to do packet pickup in a strip mall the day before, which ate up some of our time to enjoy being tourists.

“This past weekend, I ran the Daufuskie Island Marathon ON STEROIDS called the Skidaway Island Marathon. First and foremost let me say that the music selections were awesome, the bible reading was extremely refreshing and the prayer was very purposeful. The event, its director and volunteers and community along with the runners were awesome.
Going into race day I was YEAH YEAH YEAH; but during the race I was like ALL OF THE GLORY BELONGS TO YOU. So much is right about this race. If you want to connect with the creator of nature in the midst of a loving community, run Skidaway.
The race itself was an eclectic experience for me. Being able to run with others while pacing with a pacer was beautiful. Although we social distanced, just having pacers on the course was very encouraging for many. Talking and telling stories while stopping periodically to take pictures with others running the half marathon was a great experience. But around mile 7, the group fun came to an end — I would run the next 13 miles solo.
My pain was surprisingly sustainable. And while I can’t imagined the pain Aiden, Gabby and other young children go through daily from cancer, treatments and surgeries, I thought to myself this was akin to them having a good day. I made it to mile 20 with 45 minutes remaining of a strict 6 hour course time, leaving me with a 10K to run. This is when the emotional escalade ensues. Prior to being shot and sustaining glute muscle and soft tissue damage, a 10K wasn’t nothing but a breeze. Afterwards, running a 10K has become an hour plus ordeal. It would be at this moment that the anger in me rages against the machine which puts profit over people. I must stay focused.

I was super excited to run this in person race and get state #43 completed! It was an easy course through an exclusive neighborhood. It was a bit hot and humid for me, but others seemed to like it! Race director and volunteers were super nice. Could have used ice, oranges, or something besides water and powerade on the course, but I brought my own so was okay. Loved getting the tifosi glasses and shirt at the finish! Overall I recommend for GA! Great job!

Nice place to have a race. We were a little shocked that covid19 rules weren’t followed. Lots of runners starting with no masks and no distance between runners. The course was scenic in a gated community. We did see the Ocean at one location. The first three and last three miles were down a highway. The final three involved dodging some traffic. The bling was a medal fanatic, sunglasses, and a soft cotton shirt. No shirts left the correct size for my wife. Again at the finish, the medals were given out by non-masked individuals who wanted to shake our hands. Then came the knuckle bump which I didn’t do either. But finally they were happy with an elbow bump. I guest that’s life in GA.

Flat and scenic course
Easy race logistics. Bib shirt and pick up at Dick’s Sporting Goods was a breeze.
Nice medal and a finisher’s towel too.
Savannah is a fun place to visit
Cons:
On the course there were very few restrooms.
Plastic cups at water stops and also handed out plastic bottles, which were littered along the course (in high end gated community).
Too few water stops, but I carried a bottle.
Lots of turns, some of which are unmanned (with arrows). I never got lost, but sometimes I’d think I missed a turn because there was nobody else around me.
It can be a very lonely run. I’m glad I had my music!
