I had been in a couple half marathons before but this was like going from the minor leagues to the big show. Course was great. Everything was top notch , EXCEPT , people would stop and be photographed finishing while blocking the finish for people sprinting at them. Get photos away from finish chute

I’ve done 2 other Destination Races Wine Country Half Marathons (Napa to Sonoma, Oregon) and these courses were very scenic, running by many vineyards. While the Woodinville race started on one of the more well known wineries in the area (Chateau St. Michele), the course itself was not all that great, even though it was pretty easy. Most of the course is a paved trail running along the Sammamish River. Nice and easy, but you would never know you were in wine country. There were not as many perks with this race as there were with the other races, i.e. free or 2 for 1 wine tastings at the local wineries. Many of the local wineries were unaware the race was being held. But there were a ton of tasting rooms in the area, along with a handful of actual wineries. The proximity to Seattle made this a great destination race for me and my travel companions, but if you are looking for a scenic wine country race, I’d pick a different race.

As a first-time 1/2 marathoner, this was the best race to be my first. It’s a pretty flat course with nice views of the sunrise and wide enough that runners aren’t rubbing elbows for too long. I plan to do this one every year with hopes of improving my time each year.

Great course where you can get a personal best because there are no big hills and the course is mostly flat. I helped a lady that I met running get a PR. The other runners were friendly. The course was well marked and there were aid and water stations along the course. The t-shirt and medal were fun, along with the wine tasting at the end. I will definitely do this one again!

One of the more beautiful places and climates to run. A mostly flat course with potential for a Personal Best. Many fun wineries are close by and they add to one’s visit from out of town. Most assuredly a “Destination Race.”

Very fast course. Hard to find a race with less incline. You run over and next to a creek for 7/8th of the run. For portions it is a shared paved bike/run trail, however this is for the last half and the mix has not been a problem. September in Seattle = come prepared for rain.

This is a flat, fast course that runs mostly along pretty urban by-the-river running trails. I’d like to run this one again, hopefully on a much sunnier day. The weather was definitely a drawback this year – rained the entire time, and absolutely poured for a few miles in the middle there. It helped being in it with 1,300 others, though, and spirits remained high. The wine tasting at the end was not as relaxed or comfortable as the one in Oregon last year. Too many people crammed under a tent – the lines were long, the space claustrophobic, and I ended up bailing on the tasting and going back to my hotel room to dry off and drink by the fireplace.

For a first time half – this was an easy, beautiful course! The rain could have stayed away, but hey, it is the Seattle area. I would do it again in a heartbeat, downpour and all. I loved the vibe of the people, the amazing volunteers that donated their time and support, the finishing line, the organization, the wine, EVERYTHING!!! *Sponsor suggestion: small gym towels or such to towel off at end would be so great for them to offer, if one were so inclined* Kudos to the guys with the hot, fresh coffee at the end too!
Will race for wine.

I live in the Seattle area, so this was easy for me to get to, and I’d run many parts of the actual course before, so I knew it would be pretty easy. My main complain is that the course was actually kind of boring. It’s probably because I already know the area. It’s pretty, and if it hadn’t been overcast (unlikely in our area most of the year), the mountains would have been gorgeous. But with the clouds, it was just sort of so-so. I also didn’t enjoy being the last person on the course (okay, second to last, but I think she DNFed!), even though I think I did a PR. I’m slow, but man, I felt really slow that day! More people, and more walkers (or runners who also walk) would have been nice! Also, there were no porty potties the last 2.5 (maybe 3?) miles! I had to go potty in the woods (there weren’t very many trees that fit the bill, either, yikes!).

The course was scenic and flat. It was an easy run, so I was able to go wine tasting and shopping and explore for the rest of the day (and weekend). Saturday race day is a huge plus so we still had all day Sunday to do tastings and explore the adorable city of Woodinville. There wasn’t any beer at the finish line party, and the beverage tent was so tiny that people were being turned away, but hopefully they will work on that for next year. The folks at Stance also made it fun with their “sole mate” program!
