Very fast course. Hard to find a race with less incline. You run over and next to a creek for 7/8th of the run. For portions it is a shared paved bike/run trail, however this is for the last half and the mix has not been a problem. September in Seattle = come prepared for rain.

This race sells out fast. The event organizers purposefully keep the field small to create a great experience and to limit impact on the small town environment of Sonoma. Transportation is smooth and as described on the website for the race. The race temp is surprisingly cool. The best way to experience this race is to make a whole weekend of it and sign up for the welcome reception and other events. Runners from all 50 states and many countries come for this “bucket-list” run.

Sign up for the pre-race events like the welcome reception. Meet lots of folks from around the country all enjoying the sights and tastes of a gorgeous winery (Cuvaison) and setting sun. The post-race wine festival is everything you would want it to be! A well-earned glass with newly-made and old friends. Course is photo gorgeous and while it rolls only has one early hill that is a bother. Another at 8 is shorter (whew)! Once past that it is flat as a dream. Go for it!! Travel solo or go with friends-I’ve done both and it is a blast either way. Book hotels early as they fill quickly for the event. Houses are an affordable alternative for a family or group. Plenty of foodie options in both Napa and Sonoma. Kid activities in both towns too and at the post-race festival at the park playgrounds. Bus transportation on race day is first class and well organized. The race announcer is a hoot. Enjoy and celebrate your hard work in training.
