It took me awhile to finally sign up for a half marathon. I didn’t know what I was getting myself into but it was GREAT! Nike puts on a great women’s half marathon and I am sad that they don’t have this run anymore. I enjoyed the views, running through the city and the crowd. Of course, I can’t forget receiving an awesome Tiffany’s necklace made it all worth it at the end!

My best friend ran the 2014 race and I was there to spectate. I loved how well organized the whole race was. All the pre and post race events, all the supportive runners from all over the world, and not to mention the beautiful medal that any girl would LOVE! That’s why I chose this race to be my first half marathon in my life. Although the expo for the 2015 race was a bit chaotic, the race itself was very well organized. Made this first timer feel like a veteran. Course was easy and not as hilly as some would think of San Fran.

This was my first time running this race. It was amazing!! It started when it was still dark out, but it well lite and we knew where to go. There were supporters, cheerleaders, music, etc, along the entire course pretty much, which was great motivation. The hill at mile 10 was HORRIBLE, but I made it. Would definitely recommend this race and would love to do it again if chosen. The necklace is an added bonus of course.

Nike was a bucket list item for me, and all in all it was a great experience. The course was decent not too tough, but not easy either. The staging “corrals” sucked….waited over an hour to start…lines and lines of people! The finish was much of the same, TONS of crowds made it very difficult to check out the goodies. Although the crowds made it rough, the swag was top notch…meals after the race, tons of full size “samples” etc. the finishers necklace is gorgeous! Not
SUre if I can swing this one again ($$$$) but I am glad I got to do it at least once…also what sets this rac apart from many others is the ample amount of spectators, and fluid stations also had quite a bit of “fuel” like chomps, gu, etc…I literally ate my way through the race ha!

This was the second year I participated in the Nike Woman’s Half Marathon. They changed the course. Beginning of the race was street view. I had a good pace. There were a lot of water stations, which is good. A lot of Porta Potties so the waits were not too long. Biggest hurdle was the huge hill at mile 10. We ran down this hill in last years race. I ran half way up the hill and walked the rest. We ran down the hill into the Marina Green. At the bottom of the hill I developed a Charlie Horse in my right calf and luckily there was a Medical Station at the bottom of that hill. They massaged the calf but I ended up limping the final 1.4 miles. Food was individually boxed, which was good so everyone had something to eat at the end. Bling of course was the Tiffany Necklace. Was not happy that I had to purchase my “Finisher’s Shirt” so I didn’t. Huge wait for the fireman picture. I walked a very long way to the bus to take me back to my hotel in downtown SF. Feared for my life as the bus driver was speeding and erratically changing lanes on busy Van Ness. He ended up hitting a pedestrian. I understand that the Marina Green is a larger space than Ocean Beach and can hold more people but Nike needs to address the bus situation better.

This is a once in a lifetime experience. I’m so sad they aren’t doing this anymore. The “medal” was a Tiffanys necklace, which was amazing. I had a love/hate relationship with not seeing this or the finisher shirt until I finished. The course was tough, but it was not a surprise since it was San Francisco. The organization of this HUGE race was impressive. If they ever do this again, DO IT!

It is just magical to be able to run through SF without any cars. The runners are all super friendly. This is my favorite type of race because you get to go up a hill and down a hill, and then again I think. The views are just stunning and I have run this race under sunny conditions and Karl the Fog. This race made me fall in love with running races as it was my first (and second) Half Marathon.

    Improvements for the race:
I would say that they could do with more restrooms at the start of the race. Also, they could improve the transportation back from Ocean beach. I ran the race in 2011 and I thought the food was better. In 2013, they provided crappy coconut water from Costco instead of ZICO for example, and I am a coconut water snob. Also, it looks like Nike DC gets cooler looking necklaces and I was materialistically jealous.

Most important note: if you run the race in longer than 2 hours and a half (thankfully not me) it looks like you get stuck waiting to pick up your shirt and necklace and it is hard to get out of Ocean beach.
