I went into this race with high hopes and was not disappointed. I signed up with over 8 months to prepare physically and mentally, even though I struggled with injuries I still managed to finish.
The course is a point to point from Folsom to the Capital. The course itself was joy overwhelmingly difficult (as far as hills etc). It had some rolling hills that was mostly seen in the first 15 miles or so, and the rest of the course was rather flat. The spectators were awesome. The town really comes out in support of the running community. A few bands were scattered throughout the course. The aid stations were plentiful and I actually had to start turning them down because I was “done” eating anything (by mile 21 or so). The volunteers were super friendly and very encouraging. The race management made sure that runners were kept up to date with race specific details, and even provided many marathon information sessions at Sacramento’s Fleet feet.
All in all, I would recommend this race to others who are crazy enough to run the 26.2. The metal is gorgeous and it was fun running through my home town (even though my legs might not agree at the moment).

The good:
The staff as always was very easy to deal with (they have a race series in livermore, Oakland and SF). The course was beautiful! A little but of trails, went over the golden gate twice, and all over some of san Francisco’s waterfront areas. It wasn’t “easy” but the hills weren’t overwhelming either. The metal was flippen gorgeous, the tech shirt was well made.
The not so great:
Noooo food at the finish. Well, there was the standard banana, and protein bar….but I wanted a muscle milk soooooo bad the whole race and naturally they were gone when I crossed the finish line. This irked me. People were waltzing around carrying several bottles of the stuff and yet tons of folks didn’t get any. Also, packet pick up on race day had to be paid for….I live several hours away and ran into some issues (horrible traffic going into the bay). Luckly race staff worked with me so I didn’t have to pay the ridiculous 30+ dollars to do race day pick up.
Anywho, the race was nice but I am not sure I will be driving the Bay Area again for races.

I loved this race! It was my fourth half marathon and I got my best time. Scenery was stellar, the weather couldn’t have been better. Race had a smaller cap so it kept crowds lower and the race was much less chaotic than some of the previous races I have been to. Ample fluid stations, and whenever I had a question, I was always contacted immediatly by race staff. The only
And the metal? It’s the nicest one in my collection. Will likely be doing this race again.

Nike was a bucket list item for me, and all in all it was a great experience. The course was decent not too tough, but not easy either. The staging “corrals” sucked….waited over an hour to start…lines and lines of people! The finish was much of the same, TONS of crowds made it very difficult to check out the goodies. Although the crowds made it rough, the swag was top notch…meals after the race, tons of full size “samples” etc. the finishers necklace is gorgeous! Not
SUre if I can swing this one again ($$$$) but I am glad I got to do it at least once…also what sets this rac apart from many others is the ample amount of spectators, and fluid stations also had quite a bit of “fuel” like chomps, gu, etc…I literally ate my way through the race ha!

This was my first half marathon and I had not fully prepared for running 13.1….so although I was quite sore, I really enjoyed this race. It was a great prices race with a beautiful course along the American river…race swag was nice….but my favorite part was they provided a full lunch post race….truly wish more races did this because I was a meal after I run (I know, weird!)
I had a
Question for the race staff and it was immediately answered. They also had a TON of hydration stations! Honestly I didn’t even need to bring my
Own water because they were on top of it.

If you are wanting to do a great but smaller race you will
Not be dissappointed!
