This was the second year I participated in the Nike Woman’s Half Marathon. They changed the course. Beginning of the race was street view. I had a good pace. There were a lot of water stations, which is good. A lot of Porta Potties so the waits were not too long. Biggest hurdle was the huge hill at mile 10. We ran down this hill in last years race. I ran half way up the hill and walked the rest. We ran down the hill into the Marina Green. At the bottom of the hill I developed a Charlie Horse in my right calf and luckily there was a Medical Station at the bottom of that hill. They massaged the calf but I ended up limping the final 1.4 miles. Food was individually boxed, which was good so everyone had something to eat at the end. Bling of course was the Tiffany Necklace. Was not happy that I had to purchase my “Finisher’s Shirt” so I didn’t. Huge wait for the fireman picture. I walked a very long way to the bus to take me back to my hotel in downtown SF. Feared for my life as the bus driver was speeding and erratically changing lanes on busy Van Ness. He ended up hitting a pedestrian. I understand that the Marina Green is a larger space than Ocean Beach and can hold more people but Nike needs to address the bus situation better.

I enjoy this race. It is a flat race. it is a beautiful run along the Alameda Shoreline. It is a run for women and it is a great run for your first half marathon. Only drawback was that when I finished this year at 2:45, which was not “at the back of the pack” they ran out bananas and bagels. They only had water left over. I blame this on the Family 5K. I saw these 5K runners with plates full with multiple bananas and bagels. There were no volunteers at the food station so the 5K runners took what they want leaving the 1/2 Marathon runners with nothing.

This was my first 10K with Brazen. The course is flat and more pavement than most Brazen runs. We are running along the Shoreline. Volunteers are great. Plenty of water stations. Course is clearly marked. Runners are very polite. Slow runners stay to the right. I PR’d my 10K at 1:07. Plenty of food at the end. A great variety of food. Great bling at the end too. One of my favorite Brazen Runs.
