2022 was a new course. Start was at 6:30 and weather was 50s, just perfect for about 3.5 hours. Really got hot at the end. Unrelenting sun and zero shade. 70 felt like 80. Course was quite hilly. I liked that it was mostly on dirt/gravel roads, about 30% on pavement. Not very scenic IMHO, just kind of prairie scenery. You think of Wyoming as beautiful, but this was just OK, no mountains to speak of, no sights in Cheyenne either. Some marathons really take you through the main areas of the city, by the prominent sights. But this was just out in the country in a generic prairie and some new upscale subdivisions that used to be sprawling ranches. I would have preferred to be taken by the Capitol and the pretty neighborhoods in town.

Challenging course, second half is hilly and dirt gravel roads. There were plenty of water stops, and staff on ATV’s to assist if there were any problems. The volunteers were friendly and supportive with snacks, water and gatorade. Its a no thrills race, but if you’re trying to check off a state this is a good race for that.

When traveling through Wyoming, might as well run a marathon, right? Got the state marathon done…but wow…what a hot and hilly (more than expected) course. Too much heat…not enough water. The volunteers were so pleasant, the race director super helpful. Just…not…enough…water for the surprising heat. I think many felt the pain of the heat. But the course wound through Cheyenne – a good tour of the city. The Air Force Base was lovely to run through – a highlight. And the last half mile, from the Capitol downhill – well planned! Perhaps a little more festive at the end?

Let’s see there is a nice RD named Lisa. The expo was great for a race this size. I used the hotel across the street which was great. Shirt okay…. medal is great looking. There were lots of volunteers. Very few spectators… there were 154 runners I came in 152. Again I am recovering from an injury. However the course was hilly, the Air Force base was rather desertic. It seemed to me that the water stops were far apart. No matter how much I drank I was thirsty. We started at 6:30 and it was cool but I finished at 1:00 and it was hot. So I got all of the heat I wanted. The best thing about the race was the number of Maniacs and Staters that were there. I would say largely half of the runners were from out of state. I hope this helps… I am not in too positive mood about this one.

This was the first year for the Cheyenne marathon. The course was absolutely beautiful and challenging. Very well organized. And lots if great swag. It was great to see lots of local law enforcement helping out with the course. I will definitely be returning!!
