Well run race, great organizers and volunteers. 272 marathoners in 2024, not too big, not too small. Weather was perfect, luckily, 60s, but it was about 30 degrees warmer the day before, so I would say this is an iffy time of year for running in
Omaha. Out and back 2x means you see the same scenery 4x. I liked the flatness, I liked that it was mostly bike trails(all paved) you weren’t dealing with car traffic.

This is an easy course, mostly downhill, winds along a pretty river. It’s way out in the middle of the state, 3 hours from Portland or Bangor if you’re flying in, but it was worth it. Nice people volunteering! Lots of people trying to qualify for Boston, and realizing it at a high percentage. Pretty area. Weather cool and perfect here in May, 40s or low 50s for most of the race.

In 2024 the weather was forecast to be unseasonably warm, so kudos to the race team to have the flexibility to move start time from 8am to 6am. It ended up being fine. It stayed overcast and never got above 70. I liked the race a lot. There was a hilly section, but it was mostly flat. I like the way it took you by all the main sights, including the capitol, the governor’s mansion, and the Clinton Library. Lots of support and fans along the route. Southern races are fun because spectators will embrace the party atmosphere and put out food and drink for you(sometimes alcoholic drinks that you probably shouldn’t be indulging in the middle of a marathon) like it’s mardi gras!

Dubai 2024 went fine, weather was perfect. Started off mid 60s and was 70s by end, but not too hot. Very fast, flat course. Good place to get a PR. I recommend it overall. Scenery? Meh. You went by the Burj Al Arab hotel a couple times, but most of the race was on Umm Suqiem road, a fairly unremarkable corniche road along the coast but you couldn’t see the ocean. It’s in a nice part of town, so it wasn’t terrible, the road had nice restaurants, upscale galleries, and doctors offices. Volunteers were plentiful and super excited to cheer you on and provide water. No complaints. I used this race as an excuse to visit Dubai. Purses are high so they get a lot of elite runners coming. The top three men all finished in 2:05 something, 20 seconds apart.

Rehoboth is proud of its after party, and rightfully so. Large buffet of hot food and 3 drink tickets per person! 2023 race had amazing weather, but it was unseasonably warm. 2022 was very cold, so just keep in mind when planning that the weather could go either way, it is December in Delaware, after all. Largest marathon in Delaware, I was happy that I could do it!

Spinx run fest, formerly known as Swamp Rabbit marathon runs mostly on the paved Swamp Rabbit trail thru Greenville and Travelers Rest SC. In 2023 it got hot, but kudos to race planners for starting at 6am. It was comfortable for most of it. You NEED a headlamp, it is dark for the first 90 minutes, and the trail has no lighting. Two small complaints, first water stop was not till after mile 6! After that there was good support. Also mile markers were very haphazard, about 6 or 7 were off by at least a 10th of a mile, one was off by 3 tenths! Overall length was correct, though. Nice people all along the route!

Good race overall. Started in very pretty but very hilly residential neighborhood, then second half was nice and flat. That’s the best way, get the hills when legs are still fresh! Would have liked to run around the Capitol which is the most prominent location in Des Moines. The support was amazing, best I’ve ever seen. Tons of lovely volunteers on bikes making sure runners were OK. Perfect weather in 2023. Pretty good time to have a race in this part of the country, 40s and 50s this time. Swag was a fleece vest, not bad. Saw nice jackets from other years, I hear this race is known for good swag. 50 state runner here, glad to have been able to get my Iowa marathon at the state’s biggest, most prominent race.

2022 was a new course. Start was at 6:30 and weather was 50s, just perfect for about 3.5 hours. Really got hot at the end. Unrelenting sun and zero shade. 70 felt like 80. Course was quite hilly. I liked that it was mostly on dirt/gravel roads, about 30% on pavement. Not very scenic IMHO, just kind of prairie scenery. You think of Wyoming as beautiful, but this was just OK, no mountains to speak of, no sights in Cheyenne either. Some marathons really take you through the main areas of the city, by the prominent sights. But this was just out in the country in a generic prairie and some new upscale subdivisions that used to be sprawling ranches. I would have preferred to be taken by the Capitol and the pretty neighborhoods in town.
