I have run this race three times now. The first time I did it I hated it. Partially because I was stuck in the parking lot for two hours trying to get home after the race. I didn’t have any trouble this year, so that seems to have been fixed. There is also a killer hill at mile 12, which is not my idea of a fun way to finish. But I have grown to like this race. The views are beautiful, even when you are just running through a green area or the very nice residential areas. The beach view is great of course. The course support is pretty good and the race is run very smoothly. I always participate in the Beach Cities challenge, so I get a lot of bling. I like how they have also added a challenge with San Francisco. The course is somewhat challenging with rolling hills, but not impossible. I would recommend this race.

I participated in the 5K last year, so I knew it was a challenging course. The 15K is also quite hilly, but was not nearly as bad as I expected. The course is well designed and provides plenty of flat running for recovery from the climbs. The race pullover is always very nice and the colors are fantastic. I enjoy the chocolate, but it isn’t what makes this race great. The production is great and support is good as well. Would highly recommend this race.

I run Surf City almost every year. The course if very easy and the vibe of the race is very laid back and fun. I love the surfboard medals and the race production is well done. I have run this in the past because it is very close to me, but I’ll be honest, it isn’t a great 5K. The entire course is through the Fairplex parking lot and it is pretty boring. Don’t get me wrong, Holiday does well with what they have and the production is good, but I don’t like the course. The medals are nice and the shirt is cute.

I decided to do this race last minute and took my husband, who is not a runner, and my two kids. This was my 6-year-old’s first 5K! The production was great because they had games for the kids and pancakes! They give out a great medal as well and my son was super excited. The course is a bit boring because it is just in the parking lot, but overall it is still a fun race.

I really enjoyed this race. This race is a small, local race, but it is very festive. You get to run around Bonelli Park and Puddingstone, so the views are great. It can be a difficult race with a number of hills, but I enjoy the challenge. They gave out really cute medals and pumpkin pie!!! It is always a great race when you get pie. I try to do this one every year when I can.

I have always been partial to this race for two reasons – 1) It was my very first half marathon in 2013 and 2) I love Halloween and getting dressed up to run. However, the course for this race has changed over the years and frankly…it sucks now. You spend 9 miles going out and back on Wilshire. Wilshire is hilly and goes through some pretty terrible parts of L.A. Let’s just say I wouldn’t go there by myself. I was really disappointed that we didn’t go in the Coliseum at all this time either. So as much as I love this company and Halloween, I will not be doing this one again. The medal was awesome though!!

This is a hometown race for me since most all of my family live in Long Beach and my mom brings my kids down to Ocean Blvd to see me pass at about mile 11.5. So I really enjoy this one. The course is a pretty easy one with only a couple hilly parts on the freeway over pass. It is an out-and-back from mile 6 to the finish, but you go out on the beach path and back on Ocean Blvd, so it is a change in scenery. The medals are always nice and the race is run smoothly. I plan on running it again next year to earn my “Beach Bum” status and I also started “Beach Cities” with this one.

This is a very easy course at the beach. My family lives in Long Beach, so I am very familiar with the area. It is a quick out and back and the 10K will take you along the beach path. You get a hat instead of a shirt. It is nice to get something other than a shirt, but its a “trucker hat”, so I’ll never wear it. The medal was cute though. The finish line area is great with a lot of good freebies (Lara Bars!). Overall, I enjoyed this race and would do it again. It would great to attempt a PR or as a first race.

It was a fun run with an out-and-back along the Magnificent Mile and along the lakeside. It was chilly, but great for running. The wind was a little harsh at times, but tolerable. I loved that they gave out a jacket instead of a shirt, but the sizing was way off. However, they were really great about exchanges. My only issue was I had my packet mailed and it didn’t reach me in time and my hubby had to overnight it to me and that cost a lot to do.

I ran the first half marathon of this race four years ago and I really enjoyed it. I decided to run the second half to get a feel for the whole course so I may one day conquer the full (I am not a fast runner, so running this full would be like my Boston). The second half is definitely more forgiving and a lot easier than the first half, but there are still hills; this is San Francisco after all. The expo is great and the swag is good as well. You get a nice long sleeve tech tee and the additional gear is reasonably priced and there was a good selection. We were able to get to the expo via bus, although it was a long process to travel just a few miles. The race started on time and great weather (although foggy, so many did not actually see much of the GGB on the first half). But it is nice to run a race in summer that isn’t sweltering. The course support was good with plenty of water and Nuun. I cannot comment on gels, etc, because I always bring my own nutrition for digestive reasons. The pacers were fantastic and the 2:30 pacers kept me going from miles 6 to 11.5. The finish line festival is great and the “Cheers” tent was great with options of beer or wine and easy to get into. Overall, this is a great race. Just be prepared to spend a lot on a hotel if you are from out of town.

I didn’t participate in 2017, but heard about the horrible weather. This year the weather was much better than hail, BUT it was very hot and humid. So you need to prepare for anything at this time of year in So Cal. This course has spectacular views, but it is very hilly and quite difficult. The swag is great. I got a Combo Crush and a Beach Cities challenge medal for this one and they are fabulous. I have done this race twice and that will probably be it for me.

This is a tough one. There are a ton of hills on this course. I was originally going to do the 15K, but I had to downgrade to the 5K since I had emergency gallbladder surgery only three weeks ago. But this was the most challenging 5K I have ever run. The pullover that you get is super nice and the Hot Chocolate goodies at the end are great. I wish the 5K gave out a medal, but I’ll live. The staff were great and had no problems with my downgrading my race. Scenery was just okay and mostly ran through business areas.

This is a great race if you love the beach and are looking to get a personal best. It is pretty flat and a simple out and back. That is the one thing I am not super fond of because I get tired of running on PCH, but I did get a PR on this one. The turn going up into the residential area is very tight with runners splitting one side of the road and I saw a lot of people fall, so be careful. The expo is wonderful and the medal is great. The beer garden was also fantastic. If you want a nice easy run at the beach, this is your race.

I wanted to do this one since it will be the last Disney race on the West Coast…at least for a while. It wasn’t as crowded as other Disney races and the weather was perfect. The course is very easy and is almost entirely flat. My only complaint was that it did not have some of the course support that the Disneyland Half Marathon had. There were no classic cars out as we ran towards Angel Stadium and there wasn’t anyone from the ChEAR squad in the stadium. But overall, it was a great race and my new PR.

This is a primarily flat and very fast course. There are a few hills, but they are within the first six miles of the course and not too challenging. This race was very well organized. It had plenty of clean port-o-potties prior to the race and parking was easy (keep in mind I was very early, three hours before start time). There was plenty of water and Nuun on the course as well. My only complaint was that the timing chips were off and the times had to be corrected and the merchandise was not the best. However, at the end of the day, I have run my two best half-marathon times on this course out of the 21 half-marathons I have done.

I am an avid fan of Disneyland and all things Disney, so this race is not for everyone. I am also a huge fan of Pixar, which is why I signed up for this particular race. The course support was really good and there were plenty of great picture stops. The half-marathon course is a little boring when you are running the streets of Anaheim, but running through Angel’s Stadium is a really fun experience. However, I usually start to peter out and slow down once I come out of the stadium and you still have about three miles to go to the finish. I never get a great time at these races because they are very crowded. But I did really appreciate the earlier start time since the weather and humidity was awful. This race is ALWAYS hot. Overall, a great time if you love Disney. The medals are second-to-none.

This is a good “home town” race. It isn’t one of those big production races, but it is still a good one for locals. I like how they give out difference snowflake medals each year and the shirt is usually pretty full of holiday spirit. The start and end of the course are in the Fairplex, and not my favorite. But the run through Bonelli Park is pretty and also challenging. The parking is fairly easy and the event is well organized.

First of all, I love the Rock n’ Roll race series. However, I have to be honest…I hate this one. I have done it twice now and had a horrible personal performance both times. Perhaps it is because it is a night race and I just don’t do well on those. But this is just not a fun event for me. You wait forever in the corrals and I am not super fond of running in the residential area near downtown. And getting out of the finishers shoot is like walking another two miles to get out. Overall, the medals are nice, but I don’t plan on doing this for a third time.

This was a great race through the heart of Chicago. It was really well organized, as all Rock n’ Roll events are, and the course was relatively easy. The weather is a bit tricky, and it poured on us for about two miles, so course support got less and less as it went on. It can also be very humid. But I had a really good time at this one. Just be sure to check the distance from your hotel to the start line. I walked over a mile to the start, so lots of walking on race day.

In 2015, this race was still at Knott’s Berry Farm and I ran it three years in a row! I really liked this race and it was a nice and easy flat course. The best part was you got pie at the end!! My one complaint is that the course seemed to always be short, so although this is my 5K PR at this time, I am not sure I actually ran the 3.1 miles. The scenery is a little boring once you get out of the park, but it was still fun. I can’t participate in it now that it moved to Six Flags – too far.

I have done this race twice and I do enjoy it, but by the end I do get a little bit bored. I can only stare at the beach for so long. There is a nice little jaunt through the local area that gives you a couple of hills, which is good, but the rest is all just beach. So if you love the beach, this is your race. The end is a gradual incline, which can be somewhat tiring. I really enjoy the half, but would never choose to run this Marathon.

As a relatively new and pretty slow runner, this one made me very nervous. It was only my 5th half marathon and I knew all about the hills of San Fran, so I wasn’t sure I’d make it in with the course limit. However, it was a great race. The expo was great, although parking there was a bit of a nightmare. So I would suggest public transportation to get there. I ran this as my very first half marathon in 2013. At that time, the course still went over the 6th street bridge. As a lifetime resident of So Cal, this was a goof first race. RnR puts on great races, has great swag and fantastic medals. The course was difficult as a first timer, but I have run this twice more since and it is a pretty easy course.
