This was the last running of the Polar Bear classic, and I’m bummed! I really enjoy this race. Indy in February isn’t anything to write home about, but the 5k + 10k challenge is a neat set up, and the race is managed very well.

I love this race! The medal is beautiful, the t-shirt is always a great design, there’s some kind of treat at the end (cupcakes one year, sno-cones the next), the volunteers are the best, and Eagle Creek Park is a gorgeous setting.

40+ years of being the nation’s largest half marathon means that the Indy Mini organizers know what they are doing. Packet pickup at the expo and the post-race celebration in Military Park are executed flawlessly. With 40,000 ish runners around, it’s impossible not to get caught up in the hype here.

The pros: it’s cool running through Churchill Downs, and Iroquois Park is really pretty.
The cons: The expo is out of town, nowhere near the hotels and where the race actually is. It’s also pretty underwhelming. Most of the water stations are in the front half of the race, with the half marathon. The last quarter mile is pretty lackluster, and there’s no real post-race celebration.
