A relatively easy and peaceful half marathon, this route winds past vineyards along roads that have been closed down (no running on the shoulders of busy roads!). Be warned- transportation was a bit complicated and the staging area wasn’t the greatest. I was particularly impressed with the event’s email game- frequent and including all the important details.

I’d heard a lot of wonderful things about the Wine and Dine weekend- a cool night race with a fun after party. This year, they changed the race to be another early morning run (like the other halfs). It was fine, but nothing remarkably different from the other Disney races. You get to go through the parks, including Animal Kingdom and Epcot. The after party was still fun (the Wine and Food Festival is fun- lots of great food) but after getting up at 4AM- staying up late that night wasn’t the easiest thing for me.

I think I would have liked this race more if it hadn’t been during a freezing monsoon. It ended up being one of those runs that you just get through, get in the car and go home. No celebration, just a sigh of relief that it’s over. I’d like to try it again under better circumstances. The course itself was flat and straightforward. Bus transportation was simple to navigate.

A beautiful and fun race that’ll kill you in the end. This race winds through gorgeous Amish countryside topped with a final mile that is entirely uphill back to the starting line. This was a smaller race with ample parking and few perks. The website advertised that you pretty much just show up, run and enjoy a celebratory beer (for those of age) and that was my experience.

This race is near (not on) the Gettysburg Battlefields. The concept is neat- you’re divided into two teams- Blue and Gray, that run the same looped course, but in opposite directions. The overall winner’s team gets a prize (a mug in my case). My biggest beef with this race was that the course was often on busy roads with barely a shoulder blocked off. I did not enjoy feeling the wind of a truck blasting past me while I’m falling in single-line behind a fellow runner… I hear they made some changes in future races, hopefully they fixed this.

The swag was really the best part of this race (and the lab puppy waiting to give me kisses at the top of a bridge). Sweet socks and a journal in addition to the other typical runners goodies. The running through downtown Annapolis was a pretty run, but then the race went out onto closed down highways. Lots of pavement and little worthwhile scenery. It was hot, the concrete radiated heat, and at about mile 7-9 the water stops ran out of water. I don’t know that I would have finished it if I didn’t have my hydration belt.

This was my first half and I’m so happy it was! This race brings you through the Magic Kingdom, running through Cinderella’s castle. While geared more toward female runners, several male runners were also present.
