It was straight sliding on mud both uphill and down. Many of the hills were very steep. It rained on and off, sometimes quite steadily but still I kept on! At some points there was no help for it but just splash right through a puddle ankle deep. At another place many of us when off course because there was too much of a line waiting to use the rope to rappel down a drop off. Still we went on. By the last 2 kilometers I started to have irrational overwhelming fears about not making it back before the cut off time, and still I went on. No one else but me will ever understand why I see this as a great accomplishment. I am proud of my self for finishing this. It made me feel like a real athlete

This was my second go at this race, and it was definitely a totally different race this year as it rained. The rain adds a very different dynamic.
The initial climb is a challenge, and even more so when it’s wet; but once you finish that part, it’s a great course, lots of ups and downs, and even some fun slopes that require a rope assist. Now again, in the rain, a different animal…fun, and covered in mud.
The group that puts on the race does a great job to make it a fun event. The volunteers should be commended, especially this year, they’re all friendly and out there to make sure you have a good time. I understand they start dark and early to get the event ready for the participants.
All in all, it’s just as they advertise, awesome trails and killer hills. I’ll be back for year three next year.

It was unexpectedly rainy for this but it was an incredible experience and the team did a great job managing it and made the smart but tough choice to curtail some of 50. Very professional team running things for sure! The course was beautiful, and would’ve been even better in the sun so I’m planning to go back in a couple weeks to do it again.

Another fantastic race by New Global Adventures.
Mother nature made the course extra tough this year (nothing NGA can do about that), and there were a couple hills on the back side that were absolutely brutal, especially for a larger runner. Trail shoes weren’t enough. I could have used 1″ cleats, or maybe snow shoes for some of that mud. (Like a slip and slide in many areas.) There were also 2 areas where the creek was flowing on the course (A chance to clean mud off the shoes), and many, many mud puddles, and muddy creeks to cross.
It was highly suggested to take the fire road back on the final 2 miles, due to the condition of the course.
Aid stations were well stocked, and staffed by excellent volunteers. Even some wine at the last 2 stations.
I’m told there was decent snacks at the finish, but as one of the BOPers, there wasn’t much left by the time I returned.
Shirt and medal are among the best in the industry. Reason alone to return.
VIP parking available for a fee, decent parking along the road near the race start.
Plenty of hotel choices within 15 minutes of race start.
I’m proud I survived the challenge

I’ve done this race 4 times. I like the challenging hills, wild flowers, and the section along the creek. The crew is always awesome, t-shirts are the best, and the medals are the coolest! This year the rain turned the clay soil into slick goop. I will do this race again, unless it is raining.

It was my and my son’s first time to run not only Valencia trail race but 10k ever. It was raining from the start and the trail was very muddy and slippery. Coming down the killer hill back to finish was the worst yet fun! We were soaking wet and covered with mud but we did it! We enjoyed the race, foggy view and falling! We will come back next year for sure!
Challenging awesome race

An intense course, but not so terrible you want to quit. The first mile is all uphill, but aside from a couple of shorter steep climbs, that’s the worst of it. Quickly goes to single track, so try to start around where you expect to finish. The course loops over on itself once or twice, and it can be kind of annoying having to pass a bunch of folks from later races running the same part of the loop, but everyone is friendly enough to scoot over.
Swag and organization were good. Everything ran about as smoothly as could be expected.
Views at the top of the hill are great. And thanks to all the rain CA got this year, it was a very green and sometimes very flowery course!

I live in the city and I’m trying to run local races. It’s my second trail race and by far the hardest. At the beginning of the race it was hills to heaven 😂 made a mental note to train more on hills. Everyone was really nice and great energy from all the runners. Water station and snacks were well stocked . I will highly recommend this race 🙌 the scenery and the views of the valley. I’m definitely looking forward to next year trail race.

I am from Minnesota, so this was my first time running the race. I was visiting my sister in the area and just decided to hop in while I was there. Ended up winning first overall female for the half marathon! I had so much fun! Sign up was a breeze the day of race, not much waiting around. Snacks and samples at the end, and good energy. I had a blast and hope to run it next year!

I have no affiliation with them of any kind. I will tell you why they are amazing people…from easy registering, answering my email inquiry, organizing the event before, during and after. All these amazing people went above and beyond! BTW, this is my first ultra and all these amazing people made my experience more than special! Event organization, volunteers, fellow runners, friends, family…THANK YOU ALL! Did I mention these people are AMAZING!!!!

This was my first trail running race, and it sure set the standard high. I was a little nervous not knowing what to expect, but the website has tons of information and the race is very well organized. It’s a beautiful time of year to hold this race — green hills and flowers everywhere, at least this year. The infamous hills are worth it for the views. I enjoyed how the race started and ended with steep terrain for a good challenge and had fun, more runnable parts in the middle where you could open up and enjoy. One thing to be aware of is that there aren’t a ton of places to pass people. If you want to go for it, start towards the front. I made the mistake of starting in the middle of the pack and got stuck walking for quite a while. Not a huge deal, just wouldn’t do that next time.

This is my first trail race. I have been running 1-2 marathon a year so I wanted to try something new. I did the half marathon trail and it was exciting to be running up and down on small slopes in between. It felt like I was a human roller coaster. There were mud I had to hop over and it made it fun. The shirt looks great! Everyone who participated were in high spirit and happy. I felt we ran as a team because the path were narrow and it didn’t make the day too long. For a half marathon trail I walked about 1 hr going up hill but I was surprised how well I did for my first. I had thoughts I would have pain and cramps but as a casual runner it was slightly sore the next day. Food refreshments at the end were a welcoming bonus!
