This was the first RnR in Atlantic City, and as could be expected there were a few challenges. This was the smallest RnR that I have ever been in. I think the concept is great, but not sure if the race will take off or not as other cities have. The reception of the city residents to runners was not so good, as many did not like the streets being closed, even though there were sign posted days in advance. This was my first time to the iconic boardwalk of NJ, and it was not quite what I expected. The amount of homeless in this city is a challenge and that was evident. It was neat to run down the boardwalk for miles, not much for spectator support, but the ocean views were great! There were limited restaurants open at the time of this race, I would suppose a few weeks later the area may have additional options. Travel to this race for me as a midwestern resident was not the easiest. There was just one airline flying into Atlantic City, so we flew into Pittsburgh, PA, and took a train to Atlantic City, which takes a bit of time. The packet pick up was small and the finish line party was just ok.

This was a very well organized race. Race staff at the expo were very supportive and encouraging. This was a Rock and Roll event so music along the course was great and very inspiring. I loved hearing Bruce Springsteen play at the finish line. They offered all runners free french fries at the expo and finish line. The scenery was breathtaking towards last 6 miles of race as you run on beach boardwalk and feel the breeze of the Atlantic Ocean. Runners were full of high energy and received a beautiful medal at the end.

This was the inaugural running of Rock ‘n’ Roll Atlantic City. Overall, I enjoyed the run itself, with plenty of water stops and music on the course. I was happy with the shirt and medal. I would not run this again, but only because Atlantic City was nice to visit once, but that’s enough for me.

Pro: Nice course, starting on an old airfield, running through a stretch of the city and finishing the last 4 or so miles on the boardwalk.
Con: Due to the sand dunes, the ocean was not visible from the boardwalk.

Pro: Packet pickup was easy, typical of a Rock ‘n’ Roll event.
Con: The expo was small (few vendors) for a Rock ‘n’ Roll event.

Pro: Shuttles were provided from the hotel area of the city to the start line.
Con: The hotel area of the city was dirty and I would not walk there alone during the day or at all during dark.

Pros: flat course, fewer participants compared to other RNR races
Cons: Race shuttle pickup, start line, and finish areas all in a scary part of town; AC casino area and hotels in scary part of town; foggy and rainy weather whole weekend; super tiny expo with only a handful of vendors; course not scenic as 2/3 of it was on a highway and so much fog you couldn’t see anything; last 4 miles on the boardwalk made me dizzy looking at the boards; boardwalk areas were scary and we were hassled by homeless people and push taxi drivers; the whole boardwalk area smelled of pot constantly
I wouldn’t recommend this race or this city to visit. It was dirty, smelly, and scary. I can’t see why RNR picked this location for a race.

This was a great inaugural race. The course was nice and flat, the weather worked out really well, shuttles to the start line were on time and running well, and overall it was a great inaugural race. There were great drink options at the finish, and a fresh french fry food truck. The only negatives about this race I can think of are the medals are small, and running on the boardwalk can be a bit tough with nails sticking out and old boards aren’t in the best shape. Other than those, it was a great race.
