I ran this last minute when the Outer Banks cancelled (again!) The packet pick up was easy to get to with free parking at a running store. The parking is close to the start but a decent walk from the finish. I was a tough walk to the car afterwards. The full marathon follows along with the half until almost the half of the full. Then the full turns off to go out for another loop along the path. The worst parts were crowding while the half was running with us. Also the path is fairly narrow. There are several sections where you have to go up a fairly steep hill to go off the path into Fort Worth. The one thing I did not love about the course is that you can see the finish across the water around mile 22. Those last 4 miles felt so long. Also around mile 21 the water stop captain told a group I was with it was the last water stop. I kind of panicked. It was not the last water stop. They don’t do gear check because they say parking is close by. The parking is not close enough for those who do the full and are tired. I had my beer and some chips. I didn’t think I could stomach a hot dog. The people were great and the medal was very nice!

I decided to repeat my run attire that I wore at the San Antonio Alamo Marathon: cowboy hats, rodeo belt & buckle, denim shirt, sunglasses, blue jeans, and Texas flag shoes.
I was on a 4:00 hour pace through around 18 – 19 mile, then just faded a bit. Oh well, finished in 4:41+. The course had rollers along the river but overall was pretty flat. It was cold – in the 50’s the whole race and the last part was mostly into a cold headwind.
Organization was good (no safety pins in the bib bag though….but got them at a table at the start). Finishers’ medal was a huge belt buckle – larger than most if not all of my ultra buckles.
Good and fun run.

I’ve run this marathon about 10 times so far, from back when the marathon ran out to Benbrook and back, to the years when we did two out and backs along the Trinity River. This course is a big improvement on that, branching out into some neighborhoods and along some of the Cowtown course. There are still plenty of miles on the Trinity but way better variety than the previous years. They have an early start available which is great. I didn’t notice many hills like a few other reviewers noticed. The finish line still had beer, hot dogs, and a DJ when the really slow marathoners came in. That is very rare! I overall love this race and love what the new race director has accomplished. My only small complaint is the scarcity of porta-potties along the course.
Very Happy , great production
Great race, fun route , awesome BIG belt buckle medal , good vendors for food and drink afterwards. Weather was perfect. I'll run this again. Great job by Cox Racing. MORE

This race route typically sticks to the Trinity River (marathoners have to do the loop twice) and is super boring. They changed up the route this year and I LOVED it. I have no idea what hills the earlier reviewer was talking about. There was nothing that could have remotely counted as a hill. Very flat course, even with the new route. The new route only impacted 6-7 miles, the rest was still on the Trinity River. If you ran the marathon, the new route should have had very little impact.
Bathroom situation could have been better but it was clear that was a supplier issue as they showed up to deliver the portapotties 20 minutes before the race. I hope the organizers get a refund!
My only complaint was the lack of water stops between mile 6 and 12. It was a hot day and there was nothing for 6 miles. I carry my own water (been burned in the past!) so it wasn’t an issue for me but I heard lots of complaints from runners on the course. I LOVE the belt buckle medal. I’ll keep running it as long as they have those. I wear it year-round!

Route goes thru beautiful Trinity Trails and surrounding neighborhoods/parks. Some inclines/hills but primarily flat with gradual increases in elevation. Beware – some streets did not have clear running lanes and it was a bit sketchy with traffic. Also, a few Fort Worth roads have crazy slopes and drainage openings. So, it can be hazardous if you’re not watching. Neighborhoods are shaded but trails have little to no shade (can get hot in late miles). Keep in mind this is not a big production like Cowtown. So, setting expectations appropriately is key. There could be more water stops and port-a-potties on the route. Overall, I had a great time and enjoyed using this event as a training run for upcoming marathon. Loved the DJ at the finish. Belt buckle medal is cool. Shirt is boring but love the fabric choice.

This race is popular because it is always fast and flat. I have bad knees so I only run this race. They decided to do something different this year. If you like running monster hills you will love this race. Worse than Cowtown. Start and finish don’t even meet at the same place. I injured my knee and my hip because the hills were so ridiculous. Very poor map. Avoid this race if you like running quality races.
