I’ve run dozens of half marathons and Cowtown will always be my favorite. The route takes you through some of the most beautiful spots in Fort Worth including my personal favorite, the Stockyards. Always tons of energy on the course. I will definitely be back next year!

This race route typically sticks to the Trinity River (marathoners have to do the loop twice) and is super boring. They changed up the route this year and I LOVED it. I have no idea what hills the earlier reviewer was talking about. There was nothing that could have remotely counted as a hill. Very flat course, even with the new route. The new route only impacted 6-7 miles, the rest was still on the Trinity River. If you ran the marathon, the new route should have had very little impact.

Bathroom situation could have been better but it was clear that was a supplier issue as they showed up to deliver the portapotties 20 minutes before the race. I hope the organizers get a refund!

My only complaint was the lack of water stops between mile 6 and 12. It was a hot day and there was nothing for 6 miles. I carry my own water (been burned in the past!) so it wasn’t an issue for me but I heard lots of complaints from runners on the course. I LOVE the belt buckle medal. I’ll keep running it as long as they have those. I wear it year-round!

I LOVED this race.
Difficulty: Don’t let them fool you by the ‘rolling hills’ description. These are some big ones and they hurt.
Scenery: Seriously, you won’t find a prettier race. Acadia National Park at PEAK leaf peeper season? Unbeatable beauty.
Production: Expo was actually pretty great. Volunteers are the best but the bathrooms needed a LOT of attention. See additional notes below.
Swag: This race gave out some of my all-time favorite swag. I loved the long-sleeved top and bag.

The bathroom lines were insane at the half marathon. I ended up going to the bathroom in the forest with dozens of other desperate runners. They were way off on their estimates of portapotties. Despite the shuttle complaints, we only had a 10ish minute wait for the shuttle back. Not bad! Maybe it’s because we were slow? ; )

If you want to see video of the race, check out my YouTube link below. You’ll see the good, the bad, and the ugly! But I’d do it all over again in a heartbeat!!

I ran my very first half marathon at Cowtown last year on a dare, and I absolutely loved it. I loved it so much that I ran four more half marathons and a marathon over the next year in stunning locations, including Whitefish, Montana; San Diego, California; and at our ‘Fort Worth competitor,’ the Dallas Marathon. I can honestly say, nothing beats Cowtown. There is nothing like running through the stockyards and nothing can make me cry faster than the miliary photos through the dreaded mile 9 hill. The American flags at the top of that hill, held by a crowd of loud, cheering spectators, ensure you never stop running.

We prepaid for VIP parking, and it was a breeze. I participated in the Cowtown Challenge, and the extra medal and shirt were worth every bit of the extra effort. I wanted to run the Ultra this year, but an unplanned surgery derailed my training. I’m crossing my fingers that I’ll be able to check off the Ultra next year. Well done, Cowtown! See you next year, friends.

I ran this race in 2023. Unfortunately, the fires in Canada added a layer of smoke. Making things worse, the weather was HOT, it was absolutely not 76 as shown above. It was 84 degrees when I finished. There was no shade on the second half of the marathon and that’s where the hills are. I powered through, taking almost 6 hours but I almost DNF’d. BUT, Whitefish is beautiful and we had a wonderful time walking around the city before and after the race. It almost made it worth it. ; )

I ran the Cowtown half marathon for the first time in 2023. Oh. My. Heaven’s. This was the best race ever. The production was amazing, very well organized. Parking wasn’t bad if you got there early. Running through the Stockyards was AWESOME. So much pretty scenery, Fort Worth’s best views. Already registered for the 2024 marathon, may even do the Ultra!
