The Dam Good Run is a unique opportunity to run across the New Waddell Dam. Aravaipa Running, in partnership with Lake Pleasant Regional Park, brings you this annual run, walk & hike. All events except the 2 mile will cross the dam right away. The 26 kilometer and 40 kilometer courses will utilize newly constructed trails traversing along the shoreline and above the lake. The 40 kilometer course climbs to the top of Yavapai Point with incredible lake views. If you are lucky you may get the opportunity to spot a Lake Pleasant burro or two along the way!
This annual April event in North Phoenix’s stunning Lake Pleasant Regional Park caters to all levels. Conquer the dam (except for the 2-mile option which sticks to the shoreline), then explore scenic single-track trails teeming with Saguaro cacti and curious wild burros.
Push your limits with the 40K “Dam Insane” course which features breathtaking lake views from Yavapai Point and a quick, guided raft ride across a scenic cove (life vests provided).
The 40K, 26K and 13K runs take place on rugged, single track trail with significant challenging climbs, incredible views, steep descents, large boulders, rocks, and desert vegetation. The courses offer a challenging but rewarding experience for all, from the beginning trail runner to the most experienced ultra marathoner.
The 4 Mile and 2 Mile runs will be on an out-and-back. The 2 Mile is entirely on the (paved) road and will run to the edge of New Waddell Dam and the 4 Mile will cross over New Waddell Dam before turning around to head back to the finish. The 4 mile runners will run the first three miles on pavement and then have the option of taking the Roadrunner Trail the last mile to the finish. These courses are runner, walker, and beginner friendly!
All courses start on a paved surface and follow the road onto the Waddell Dam. 13K, 26K, 40K all have 2.5 miles of pavement to start your race before dropping onto some excellent single track on the Maricopa Trail.

Nice location to run, lots of parking, better to come early to get in closer. Lots of boats and boat parking so beat the boats. Great weather today, overcast. 72 degree to start and 84 degree to finish. Good course, lots of rocks though. Good race for slow folks. All ages and 5 races, something for everyone. Aid stations are well done, everyone is great, good mood. Good Food and they have diet coke….big plus. This between Phoenix and Flagstaff. Drive is an easy one.

The race is at Lake Pleasant. It is a treat to run across the dam. The rest of the race is up and down hills. It gets pretty technical in many places (I almost ate it a few times). Araviapa does a great job putting on races and keeping everyone safe.
The race ends at the lake and you can just keep running…into the lake!

Not a trail runner, but decided to give this run a try as it was in an area we wanted to check out. Was advised this was a good introduction to trail running as only the last miles was on a trail. The first mile was uphill with a quad busting downhill after, only to have to climb that hill at three miles. Not an easy course, but a fun run. Nice beer glasses at the finish.
