After 35 years of traversing the roads and hills around Falmouth, the classic Cape Cod Marathon course will be retired after 2018. The new classic course will showcase the beauty of the scenic Falmouth coastline. The Start/Finish will still be along Main Street in the quaint village of Falmouth. Out … MORE

In spite of the fact that we ran it in a legitimate nor’easter, this race could not have been more fun or better supported! The vast majority of the race is along the Atlantic Ocean, and the scenery was spectacular. Volunteers were out in full force, and were friendly and helpful, as were the race organizers. I can’t wait to return next year!

I had never done this course before and decided to do it in 2016. We had perfect weather conditions. Packet pickup and parking on race day morning was very easy. The course is an out and back with two minor hills, and is otherwise flat. The course has beautiful views of the beach and ocean, and you can see Martha’s Vineyard and Nantucket. I think is a very fast course. I actually had to slow myself down as I was pacing in another half marathon the next day. Nice shirt and medal, plentiful post-race food. I would definitely do this race again.

This race was by far my worst performance – probably because I didn’t train – but I had a blast! I made it a long weekend retreat and stayed at a B&B at the race start/finish. I def recommend the Inn on Siders Lane – Maureen and Jim were great, super accommodating to my runner schedule, and it literally took me 3 minutes to get to the start/finish. I also met up with several friends from another state so we made sure to check out a few restaurants and local watering holes.

    Memorable Moments:
    – Listening to the waves hit the shore as we ran along the coast
    – Talking to and meeting so many awesome runners
    – Course spectators: lady on a pogo-stick, violinist, etc.
    – A beautiful lighthouse towards the end
    – Post-race apple cider donuts on the green (there is also clam chowder and beer which everyone was grabbing, but I don’t like clams and I wasn’t in the mood for beer).
    – The announcer did a great job of rooting on the last runners to cross the finish line. I always appreciate that because the crowd starts to dwindle and I think everyone deserves to have an awesome finish.
    – The claw-tub at the inn, great for a post-race ice bath.

Do you recall how many months in advance you had to make your reservations to get into The Inn on Siders Lane?

Great race weekend all around. They run the Half and Full on separate days, on separate courses, so if you do the Chowdah Challenge, you get to see so much more of the Cape. I’ve done the Challenge a couple times, and have loved the challenge, the spectators, the aid stations, and even the easy bib pickup.

Great course with some hills (miles 3 and 9). Limited to 1200 runners. Weather is typically cool, this year it was upper 40s at the start. Not much in the way of spectators but the scenery is beautiful. Plenty of water and gatorade along the course. Some of the same course as the Falmouth Road Race. There is also a marathon the next day if you want to do both.
