This was my first 50 miler and it was tough but I pushed through. I wore the wrong shoes for the first 20 and had blisters right away. My knee gave out as well (first time!) but pushed through the pain (not without prayer). Glad to share experience with my two girlfriends who completed the course within a minutes of each other. Luckily, I had an amazing crew and support which helped me so much especially with needing the shoe change at mile 20. The volunteer staff was very supportive and the cheering crowd at the end was great. Everything was very well organized and the aid stations were stocked well. I may try again for a better time next year.

The course was not easy–there were many high creek crossings and technical trails.

Race was very well organized but started time confusing. We ran across the start way after everyone else started.
The cheering crowds were the best I’ve experienced. I enjoyed seeing the sites and aid stations were plentiful and we’ll stocked.

Pros:
Lots of aid stations and neighborhood support. It was very hot and neighbors coming out with ice and their hoses helped tremendously.
Views were great and varied as you ran through downtown, Shoreline Village, the strand, and the CSULB.
Shirts were better this year and medal was nicely done.
Lots of friends participated so there was great commradary.
Parking was easy off Pine Avenue north of Ocean.

Con’s:
Maybe should have started earlier 5am with heat wave in forecast.
Lack of good recovery food. Had to walk 5 blocks to get a decent meal.

This is a great local race that has amazing energy and crowd support. Live local music and cheering crowds along the whole route push you forward. The is varied scenary as you start in the wooded trail and end on the strand at the pier.
No medals but you do get a pretty kickass shirt.

Pros
Good snacks and drinks at aid station and finish line.
Nice tech shirt (although graphic is hard to read) and medal
Shuttle bus was on time
Organized / easy check in

Cons
Fully exposed course and just up and back down.
Ranger asked us to use our “inside voices” outside.
No timing chip or gun.

Summary: I liked that the event was well organized but the course lacked variety for me.

This race took place in Black Star Canyon which is not open to the public. The trails were both fire and single track. The scenery was very pretty…I thoroughly enjoyed it and even stopped to take a couple pictures! I really like the trucker hat they gave out (choice between hat or t-shirt). It is my new race hat. The metal was nice as well.
Production was low key which wasn’t a bad thing. Check in was quick.
I’ll definitely be back next year. It was a lot of fun.

I appreciated that the parking was easy. The event wasn’t as organized as it could have been. There was confusion at the start line. I couldn’t hear the emcee. The route was ok…runners had to deal with car exhaust on Seal Beach Blvd and Westminster Blvd, but the last 2 miles along the river bed were good. There were only 2 water stations which wasn’t enough. T-shirts were cotton and just ok. All-in-all, it was an ok event.

This race was very well organized. The trail scenery was very pretty. The first two miles were uphill and tough– the rest downhill or flat. Much of the trail was single track. I stopped to take a couple pictures because it was just too pretty not to do so. I liked the shirts too. Nice swag. I’ll sign up for all three next year.

This is a really fun neighborhood race that is very well organized. They have good sponsors (Village Runner, Kaiser, Oakley, etc.) and a good beer garden. The long sleeve t-shirt is nice even though it is cotton and not dri-fit. I recommend this race if you are local and don’t want to travel too far on Superbowl Sunday.

I loved this Half marathon race. I had completed Long Beach the weekend prior and preferred this half over that one. The best part of the race was the scenery. I loved running along the American River the full race. It starts out with a gentle downhill. There was live music along the way. I’ll do this one again!!

This is a great “Turkey Trot” event. I try not to miss it! It is a big race in Sacramento with approximately 40,000 people attending. The energy and race production are A+!!
The race takes place in the Fabulous 40s neighborhood of Sacramento with lots of people cheering the runners (and walkers) on. The expo has a lot of vendors and free swag. This is a great one.
